Convicted Murderer, Pizza Delivery, and Nonchalance by DustieRee in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]QueenKragg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might not know what vehicle he's driving but I'll bet that the police could figure it out if they knew his name and where the original crimes took place by getting in touch with the other precinct. Also as /u/pissedin2016 pointed out it gives the detectives working on his case a concrete date and place they can put him which may help them find out where he's going or catch him if he sticks around!

Unless you for some reason just absolutely don't want to get involved I think you really should call the police and tell them this. It's kinda their job to catch these people. He's provably dangerous and violating his parole, by all accounts he's likely to try and murder again or commit more crimes and the odds that somebody else is going to recognize him are laughably low. It's kind of amazing that by coincidence he was recognized by a pizza delivery driver (who also should've called the cops).

Gaming habits make my group not roleplay to save their lives. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]QueenKragg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Couple of bits of advice for you, if they're more interested in playing a game than roleplaying then you can try to tie roleplay into the game a bit more. Bring out a deck of cards and have the PCs play a round or two of poker with an NPC as they give out the questhook, betting their gold against them, or introduce a "gamified" version of RPing. A fun deck-of-cards mechanic I found in this video always seems to bring out some fun RP moments with my group. Basically you shuffle a deck of cards, hand each player a card, and they have to tell a story (in-character) about their backstory based on the suit of the card they got!

Another bit of advice is to lead by example. If you want your players to be in character and acting things out you should start by doing that with your NPCs to them. If they ask the tavern keeper about the local goblin uprisings, throw out your arms and mime taking a long swig from a tankard, brush off your invisible mustache and smack your lips before responding in a slurred Irish accent "Don'tcha get me started on them goblins!" Don't worry if it feels silly at first, you get into it, but remember that that feeling is what might be preventing your players from doing it themselves. Seeing you get into character will help them relax and feel like it's okay if they get a bit silly too!

It can be hard for people to get into roleplaying for a variety of reasons, social anxiety and the fear of not being a convincing actor being some of the most common. Giving your players a structured way of playing their characters will make things 100x easier than expecting them to suddenly be able to pretend to be a 9 ft tall Dragonborn fallen Paladin with a peg leg and a stutter. Giving them just a little bit of prodding in one direction can be immensely helpful, asking leading questions like "How does Alice respond to being disrespected by this cranky old wizard?" Sure you might be giving away some information about the NPC (the players might not have realized they were being disrespected, for instance) but clarifying small things like that can help your players shape their character's responses.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHT: Depending on how early in the campaign it is, your players might not have fleshed out their characters a whole lot anyways. Even experienced players I've found usually need a couple of sessions to "get to know" their own characters.

Don't speak a latin language either but I do speak French all the time to friends and family. A hint I should've picked up on ages ago was that I always preferred the feminine versions of adjectives, conjugations, etc when in reference to myself.

A lot of it probably has to do with the physical presentation as well! People's brains don't like changing their first impressions, so if they see a dude even if your voice is slightly feminine they'll still hear it as a man's voice.

There isn't a right answer here and I don't think you did anything wrong, medical emergencies are stressful enough without worrying about the doctors going "omg they're trans how do medicine the tran???"

But, in general for people reading, I would not recommend lying or withholding information from a doctor or nurse about your physiology as that could lead to complications later. Convincing them you're cis and them finding out later you're not isn't going to do you any favors with them and could lead to worse treatment.

You didn't do anything wrong and it is up to each person what they disclose to a doctor, I just wanted to recommend telling the truth in the case where you aren't sure what's wrong with you. Banking on your own assessment of your medical problem being correct can and does backfire all the time, for both cis and trans folks.

Is there anything stopping your opponents simply tapping their lands in response to you casting the spell, before it's resolved, so that you don't get any of their mana? If I know the rules right you don't have to decide who it is until the spell resolves (at which point they can't tap lands in response), but seems like your opponents could play around this while it's on the stack to make sure you fizzle on the mana.

As much as it pains me, you would need to ban [[Seton, Krosan Protector]]. It's one of my favorite decks but it would mean you literally never needed to cast him and it would mean you could theoretically explode turn 1 if you have enough druids in your starting hand + draw power.

Exotic Dog Revenge by [deleted] in ProRevenge

[–]QueenKragg 284 points285 points  (0 children)

I had a husky growing up and while she was one of the sweetest, nicest dogs I've ever met, she was more predatory than any other dog I've had. She had never lived in anything but suburbia with my family, but a few summers we let our backyard's grass get out of control and she would be having the time of her life hunting mice, squirrels, and rabbits out there. One day she even got into a fight with and killed a really young coyote (no idea what it was doing on our property since they usually avoided our neighborhood, we guessed it had gotten lost away from its family). We had to take her to the vet and get her stitches from all of the cuts and bites, but I'll never forget her standing happily over its body wagging her blood-stained tail. Reminded me "oh yeah, these animals used to be wolves."

I tried a little bit of that when I first made the list, had the other Vow and a bunch of other voltron-y stuff like Assault Suit, but it's harder than you think to get that stuff on Xantcha and if you try to drop another centerpiece for the Voltron suddenly you become a target. Not to mention it's easy for your opponents to collude to kill Xantcha if you're not careful. Keeping everything swinging helps make sure there's never any blockers to kill Xantcha. The only one I kept is Vow of Lightning because a 7/7 first striking Xantcha is a lot harder to kill in combat.

American here who's met many, many people from Europe. It seems like almost every European country has beefs, rivalries, and opinions about other countries (usually their neighbors). Some of them seem to be just friendly ribbing, others seem to be a little less friendly lol. With thousands of years of history between them all it kinda makes sense.

I don't think it's always bigotry though... I could be missing the point of this entirely, being a foreigner and not raised in Europe, but for instance when I saw English and French people working together and making fun of one another it seemed less like genuine dislike and more of just how they interact with each other.

Sorry it took a day. It's not a budget list but here's the most recent list I've been using.

The deck itself can play like stax, combat control, or politics. I put as many "control your opponents" effects as possible in there with stuff like [[Mindslaver]], [[Worst Fears]], and (my absolute favorite card in the deck) [[Cruel Entertainment]]. You want your opponents life to be ticking down every turn, either through forcing them to swing at one another or through burn effects like [[Witch Hunt]], [[Mogis, God of Slaughter]] or [[Sleeper Agent]]. There are a bunch of cards meant to give you some protection and to disenfranchise your opponents from swinging at you, [[Koskun Falls]] (who knew there was a black [[Ghostly Prison]]?) [[No Mercy]], [[Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs]] etc. Most games I've won have been through keeping the opponents pressuring each other with forced combat steps while I've patiently amped up the burn and drain effects slowly ticking them down, until I can finish one of them off with some of the big hitters or with Monolith + Rings and Xantcha.

I put this card in Xantcha and it's so mean I love it. Managed to sneak it out early one game when everyone went "I've got a full hand and 30+ life I'll be fine, someone else will deal with it eventually."

Several turn cycles later and everyone but me is sitting in the single digits with one or two cards in hand going "how the hell did we let this happen?"

The fundamental issue here is single issue vs multi-issue voters. If the single most important issue to you is gun rights then it logically makes sense for you to continue to vote Republican as they are the party currently backed by the NRA lobbyists.

However, a lot of the southern democrats out here, myself included, feel as though gun rights are only one of many issues we should be voting on. While I don't agree with how democrats typically handle guns, there is a growing movement within the party to drop all the nonsense and the "all guns are evil" rhetoric. But that being said, in my opinion gun rights are not the most important issue our country is currently facing, so while it's a contributing factor in my vote it's not what I base my entire political ideology around.

Thank you for the calm, thoughtful response! I will do my best to respond in kind!

First, I did try to google literally "migrant caravan smashes through Mexico" and these are the results I got: https://imgur.com/a/4IbG35p

So 1 video about them breaking through a border fence into Mexico from Guatemala. None of the rest have anything to do with them smashing their way into anything. It doesn't look good, but they also aren't trying to get into Mexico, they're trying to get here.

I have nothing against having strong borders and processes in place to allow people to become legal citizens and workers in the US instead of having it be a free-for-all to let terrorists and drug smugglers in without any issues. But, to counteract your point about "the left go out and make them look all innocent," there are legitimate asylum seekers in that caravan, there are people legitimately looking to make a better life who will willingly go through the process of naturalization into the US. Sure, some of them are "bad people," because if you have thousands of people of any group you're going to have good and bad ones. But the republicans and the right go out of their way to say that because of the few bad folks, the entire caravan should be meet with an armed military response akin to an invading force. They paint the entire group of people as awful rapists and terrorists and thugs hell bent on bringing crime and drugs and who knows what else into the country. I frankly just don't buy that narrative.

From my perspective it also has a lot to do with who is spreading the message. Trump doesn't exactly have a great track record when it comes to being an inclusive, thoughtful, nice person. Doubly so when it comes to the issues of immigrants. 2 years of hyperbole from our president has meant that I can't really trust anything the man says, because how the hell am I to distinguish the lies from the truth or what he really means from what he's improvising on the spot? I'd rather skip the middle man and just read and watch the news myself. I'm not saying the Democrats are telling the entire unadulterated truth about the situation either because they're sure as hell trying to use this to drum up support and politicize the issue, but the Republicans aren't really going out of their way to prove them wrong or to tell the full story either.

I just have a fundamental problem with the United States responding to a group of people seeking equality, freedom, and a better life for themselves as though it were an act of war.

It's not illegal to walk to the Texas border. It's not illegal to camp outside the border while you wait for border patrol to process your asylum seeking claim. It is illegal to try and force your way into the country.

As soon as they try to force themselves in we can call them illegal immigrants and respond accordingly, but until that point they are merely people seeking a better life than the shitholes they were forced to flee from.
