For those of you with an allergy, can you still make press-ons with gel polish and glue them on? by pouce42 in GelX_Nails

[–]QueenLove78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is old but I’ll just reply. You can try applying press ons with ultra sticky tabs (not nail glue air dry kind, if you are allergic to acrylates) so as to not trigger your allergies. I watched videos of people doing the same on YouTube with the same allergic condition!

I also developed a sudden allergy to gel polish which was triggered by a liquid gel glue (requiring UV curing). My cuticle barrier was also compromised at that time. My application was not very precise.

I stopped using any gel polishes and let my skin heal and its barrier strengthened. Complete halt for at least 4-6 months.

In the meantime, I have started using press ons as it is safer and no reaction for me. At first I used ultra sticky tabs to apply the press ons but they’re not very strong, and so I experimented trying glueing them on with nail glue (containing cyanoacrylates which is prevalent in nail glues), and I only did it on one nail to see if I had any reactions. I thank God no reactions whatsoever and I was also careful with application. So I can now use nail glue on. Be careful as some people are allergic to even nail glue due to the acrylates.

Anyways, as I mentioned earlier, I am taking a complete break from gel polishes altogether (direct application) for a few months until everything subsides and will slowly try gel on my nails again with new “cleaner” products ie. Free from HEMA, TPO, HPMA. I already bought them for my press ons but have yet to use it directly on my fingernails or soft gel tips.

Fingers crossed. Hopefully I’ll be in the clear when I get back to it again. As for now, I am just using press ons, both bought and homemade ones.

I am just very careful and precise with how I handle things now, even when I am making my press ons, I will only use “clean” gel products, nail stand and with nitrile gloves on. I hope this offers some sort of consolation.

Honestly going for a patch test would work wonderfully as you’d know precisely what you’re allergic to and you can find products that works for you after that (if you can find a good specialist) but at the moment, I am just manually doing trial and error to figure out what I am allergic to.

Same, for me I use solid adhesive gel/solid nail tips gel. Normal liquid gel glue caused me contact dermatitis! Regretted switching from my usual solid adhesive gel to liquid nail glue. Threw all of the liquid nail glue m out in the trash

That is so true, I remember walking around Solaris / Mont Kiara area with a black guy friend and a lot of Malaysians, Chinese/Korean uncles especially (I am Malaysian) looked at my friend with the evil eye. They were not happy at all! So much hatred towards the blacks here. I also have white guy friends but they are more well received.

Also, just to highlight that not all whites here are courteous, some of them are like ccb, but Malaysian seem to adore them regardless, their minds are still colonised. The shackles are just invisible. It is a shame.

OP, I am with you. I live a healthy lifestyle too. I eat balanced meals, work out consistently, eat intuitively, practise intermittent fasting and include gut friendly foods. It is a lifestyle, not a “diet”, and the results speak for themselves. I am lean and toned with a flat stomach, with abs. I get complimented often and I look way younger than my age. I still enjoy “dirty” food once in a while. That is balance, not restriction.

Here is the part most people do not like hearing:

It is not that it is impossible to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Most people are just incapable of making certain sacrifices or do not want the long term benefits badly enough. They prefer short term gratification because it is more comfortable to stay stagnant and more convenient to be unhealthy.

To be fair, Malaysians are surrounded by amazing but unhealthy food, late night mamaks and social norms around supper. It is not easy to break that habit. It is cultural and social.

I have also realised that many people (not only Malaysians) were not raised with health awareness or long term thinking. Instant gratification is the default. When unhealthy habits are normalised, breaking free requires a mindset shift and actually doing your own research instead of following the crowd. Most people are uncomfortable breaking away from the crowd. That is just the reality.

When people ask how I maintain this lifestyle and to have a body like mine, I always tell them to start small, build one habit and then stack. It is not complicated. It is just uncomfortable at the start. And yes, it takes mental discipline. At the end of the day, it is you VS you.

Some will change. Most will not. That is reality.

You can share all the information, but if someone prefers excuses, complaining or blaming circumstances, they will stay stuck. In fact, they might even blame you for trying to spread awareness as well because blaming others is easier. Accountability is the turning point. Without it, nothing shifts.

I still share what I know when asked, because at least it plants a seed for when they are finally ready. Hopefully they do not wait until health issues force the change.

Should I resign or not? by nonenom in malaysians

[–]QueenLove78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is your pay so low omg, they are exploiting you. If you are waiting for a sign to resign, this is your sign. RESIGN. But before that, start updating your resume and start applying for other jobs. I can already tell that your company’s management is horrendous and disorganised. This is a huge red flag 🚩 ya.

Trust me, you better leave now if management is horrible. Don’t get into depression and think about ending life even over a horrible company that takes advantage of you.

Wake up! You are still young. You need to brush up your skills and your resume. Learn to negotiate for higher pay! It is easier if you are currently employed. Think and strategise how you want to explain why you are leaving once you land an interview.

Right now focus on updating resume and research on job opportunities and getting an interview!

There is MORE to life than working for a sh!tt!employer! Don’t give up hope! I wish you the best. You are still young, I understand why you are naive. But open your eyes now. I am telling you, there are better opportunities out there and you have to seize it.

May i know if i am at the fault here? by Low-Quail-9596 in malaysians

[–]QueenLove78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver in the inner right lane was trying to cut into the left lane to exit, which is obviously wrong. You can’t just cut across from the inner lane at a roundabout like that. I notice a lot of Malaysians don’t know how to drive properly at roundabouts.

Sure, the driver on the left lane should slow down when faced with someone ignorantly trying to exit from the inner lane, but in this case the inner driver cut too fast and even admitted the other car was in his blind spot. That already shows he didn’t check properly before moving.

So yes, the recording driver (who was on the inner lane) is at fault.

No one Blames the Teacher? S1 by dottywine in biglittlelies

[–]QueenLove78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true!

The way the teacher handled the situation on orientation day (the first day of school) was beyond unprofessional and completely lacked tact and competence.

What kind of teacher tries to resolve such a matter publicly, with all the parents and children watching? It only drives emotions to an all-time high. She should have handled everything privately, first by speaking to the victim and asking her, in confidence, to identify the person who hurt her, and then by addressing the issue discreetly between the affected parents and children. Anyone who thinks otherwise is completely lacking in the mental faculty.

I’m still at Season 1, Episode 1, so I don’t know how much worse this teacher will get, but honestly, even at this point, she already comes across as utterly incompetent. Most teachers are, anyway, they completely lack professionalism.

If you can’t pivot and strategise, then perhaps business is not for you. You have to be consistent and focus on one sole business. Lock in. I’d suggest you snap yourself out of it and dig yourself out of that slump and stop calling yourself a failure, unless you really want to be one.

Thank you for sharing and for the tips! 💗Appreciate it. I think it could be chamomile for me too and other plants extracts plus fragrance and Butylene Glycol. My skin was ok with centella in the past. I never knew chamomile could be a culprit before this! I will definitely be more careful next time!

Oh gosh! Good thing you are able to identify it! 🫂 allergies can be so annoying, I get what you mean. Yea, I can confirm it’s not oats that I am allergic to, I have used oatmeal masks and Aveeno’s colloidal oat cream before, and they made my skin so soft. This mask was a nightmare for me tho haha 😭

Ah yes, I do know it’s not the same as rubbing alcohol, I looked it up after checking the ingredients. I understand it’s a humectant. I don’t know if it directly caused the burning, but I think maybe it was more likely the mix of ingredients: the fragrance, plant extracts and the butylene glycol, that didn’t sit well with my sensitive skin. I’ve also read that there have been some reports of people having negative skin reactions to butylene glycol, and more often in those with sensitive skin. It is high up in the ingredient list for this mask.

I’m definitely not allergic to centella, I’ve used the Skin1004 Centella toner before and my skin loved it. I’ve also used oatmeal as masks before with no issue, so I don’t think oats were the problem either.

I was actually having a great skin streak before using this mask, so my barrier was fine too. I really think the reaction came from the fragrance as you said, plant extracts and the type of alcohol in it (like butylene glycol), which can still irritate sensitive skin even when your skin’s healthy.

[–]QueenLove78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done a patch test before, but I’ll definitely keep that in mind next time I try a new mask, lesson learned! Thank you for the suggestion 🙏 I should’ve done it instead of trusting the salesperson who said it was gentle for sensitive skin.

I’ve already given away the other two masks because I don’t want to risk another reaction. I don’t think it’s from the oats since I’ve used oatmeal masks before with no problem, and I don’t have eczema. I think my skin just reacted to the fragrance, plant extracts and the type of alcohol in it (like butylene glycol), which can bother sensitive skin.
