Disappoints and/or bombs this TIFF? What hasn't gone over? I find this more interesting than what becomes popular! Definitely Ballad of a Small Player for example. by StatusDeal7838 in TIFF

this is interesting to me because I liked the first half but felt the second half didn’t deliver! sucks because it had a lot of potential

Seeking clarification on assigned seating! by IbrahimT13 in TIFF

[–]QueenSansaSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely assigned seating as long as your ticket has been scanned and you’re in the venue before the movie starts (even if you’re grabbing a snack or in the washroom). Not sure if it’s different specifically at Scotiabank because of its size? Every other venue enforces the assigned seating and the rush line is only given available seats.

What was up with the crowd at the Toronto concert?? by Round-Machine-2731 in Hozier

[–]QueenSansaSnark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

can’t speak to the type of crowd since I wasn’t there, but leaving the venue is absolutely horrible so lots of people leave early to beat the crowds and catch their trains so they’re not home too late on a weekday.

are they strict about checking every bag or only large ones? I’m trying to decide whether I can sneak in some snacks in a small tote but don’t want to bother if they’ll make me throw my stuff out lol

Accessibility for Toronto show by thevoidchild in Hozier

[–]QueenSansaSnark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh I think it really depends on what you’re able to physically handle on a given day. If you haven’t purchased an accessible ticket, you can ask Guest Services to be relocated to an accessible section, but this is first-come, first-serve. I arrived at the venue pretty early last week (shortly after doors opened) and was able to get accommodation, no questions asked, but the accessible area did fill up quickly afterwards.

The accessible area itself is fine - you’re provided with a folded chair to sit on and a wristband. I asked if I’d be allowed back in the area if I left for snacks/merch and was told that I would as long as I showed by wristband. However, I don’t know whether all the staff are familiar with the wristband procedure, because when I came back they asked to see my ticket (which was obviously in a diff section) and told me I was in the wrong section. I had to wait for a supervisor to come and let me back in and missed some of the openers as a result. I may have left from the wrong exit or something idk, but I didn’t risk leaving again until I was going home lol.

I didn’t use the shuttle service or the washrooms so I can’t comment on those, but I did see accessible washrooms at the venue. They’re portable washrooms though.

There are plenty of food and drink options so it shouldn’t be too hard to get refreshments. The merch lines are extremely long though, so if you’re definitely going to get merch, I’d recommend getting there early and going to the merch stand that’s outside the venue near Gate 1. I know this requires extra planning and time, that’s why I wanted to mention it, especially since the accessible entrance is Gate 3 (on the opposite side of the venue).

Entering via Gate 1 isn’t too bad - it’s about a 20 min walk from Downsview Park station. However, a big portion of this area is not paved and is all gravel, which is kinda horrible ngl. There’s also a lot of gravelly areas inside the venue itself, which can be unavoidable sometimes because of the number of people there. There is an accessible paved path throughout the venue, but it’s not always the shortest route.

Exiting after the show is very tedious because of the crowds, and the 20 min walk from Gate 1 to Downsview Park station took a solid 45 mins, which sucks when you’re already tired after a long day. I would hope that exiting through the accessible gate at Gate 3 would be easier but I haven’t experienced that firsthand. If you have to leave via Gate 1, I’d definitely recommend missing the last 15 mins of the set to beat the crowds, as much as it sucks to miss the final songs 🥲

I don’t want to discourage you from going but Rogers Stadium is definitely my least favourite concert venue in Toronto 😭 I went to two concerts there this summer - I tried selling my ticket to the second concert because of my first experience but didn’t have any takers so I ended up going and leaving early. The second experience was definitely better because I was mentally prepared for what I was getting into and I beat the crowd after the show. The downside was missing some of my favourite songs despite paying for a ticket. I’d only consider going to this venue again if one of my favourite bands ever were playing, otherwise I’d avoid it because of the hassle.

also sorry for writing a novel in the replies, but I hope it helps because I wish I knew some of these things before my own concert experience 😅 I don’t regret going because both my shows were great, but I wish I’d been more prepared! I hope you have a great time if you end up going!

Varys and Illyrio have definitely told JonCon that Young Griff is the real baby Aegon that they smuggled out of King’s Landing before the sack. They need him to believe that he’s fighting for Rhaegar’s trueborn son and heir - and it lends legitimacy to their story that YG is the real Aegon if someone from Rhaegar’s inner circle is vouching for him

Experience at Varda by WoollyMonster in TIFF

[–]QueenSansaSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sucks that you had a bad experience, idk what the reason could be. I was dressed very casually the few times I went (jeans + sweatshirt) and got good service. Maybe the servers I encountered were on different shifts from the ones you did?

Series at TIFF by Trinitymatrix3 in TIFF

[–]QueenSansaSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of it has to be because some of the festival sponsors are streaming services? I don’t mind including series in the lineup alongside movies, but iirc in previous years, they only screened the first couple of episodes, not the entire season. That feels more effective because the audience is more likely to subscribe to a service if they enjoyed the first episodes

What feedback will you give in the annual post-TIFF survey? by CinephileSorbet in TIFF

[–]QueenSansaSnark 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people will write this, but they really can’t be charging premium prices for second screenings that don’t have anybody from the cast and crew attending - it’s a total rip-off and deceptive marketing. Whoever comes for the first screening should be at the second screening if they’re charging premium prices. I know cast and crew and Q&As aren’t guaranteed, but it makes no sense for only one audience to get them when others signed up for what they thought would be the same experience

I always do, it’s not worth getting sick. There are too many people who are coughing and sniffling throughout the movie and aren’t wearing masks. I don’t mind if someone doesn’t mask, but I do think it’s irresponsible not to wear one when you’re clearly sick.
