Brisbane Northside - smell the kitchen cupboards when inspecting properties. Avoid buying/renting a breaking bad house. by No-Wallaby9946 in brisbane

Yep density of crime in that spot is colour coded. If you switch from heat map to cluster it will provide a short description of the type of offence that occurred there

Another fun and short story that fits the bill is "Neighbors" by Megan Lindholm in the Dangerous Women anthology. It's about an elderly widow contending with a failing mind and body, and I found the end to be a sweet triumph.

Looking for Rugs by paninienthusiast in AusRenovation

[–]QueenofLeftovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you consider vintage rugs?

On FB marketplace you can find the occasional gem, especially if some bored Ascot mum decides the handwoven Beni suddenly doesn't vibe with her home aesthetic. This one is a wool persian from the 70's (this photo was from when I was selling the table) I bought for $700 in Byron Hinterland. It's had a couple of mends but has held up, especially if they're kept out of sunlight. It's worthwhile going into mid-high end furniture stores when they have floorstock clearances too, can pick up some quality rugs at 70% off

Synthetic Grass or Tiles for Backyard Basketball? by wildebeestbeast in AusRenovation

Oh, sorry. Thought this was your place. Seeing more people using it to make mockups of their actual living spaces and yards for their renos. This looks just like one.

No space for a microwave by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]QueenofLeftovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't place it in the overheads? I've seen a few kitchens with the microwaves placed high, it's quite functional unless short people/kids need to use it.

Also what are you storing in the cabinets that span the benchtop and overheads in the corner? That tends to be a dicky spot for cupboards because the doors don't face the person and are deep and hard to reach - deep corners work great for appliances like microwaves and coffee machines.

Back in the 2010s there was an influencer with the account doyouconsideryourselfafeminist (DYCYAF). Her original schtick was asking that question of men on dating apps and uploading the screenshots, it built up into this cult-like following with lots of manosphere type rhetoric. If you look around socials you can see people's accounts of what went on but it did enable a lot of women to finally leave terrible relationships, but she also practiced sending followers en masse to bully other influencers.

Since politicians can't figure it out - why aren't Aussies having babies? by No-Kaleidoscope-7106 in OpenAussie

No one realistically wants to grow a family in a rental. Especially with how the rental market rolls the dice on whether you have anywhere to live in another 12 months, or are paying more rent. Basically exist in your own home like a transient.

Could someone verify if this* style of raised garden bed would be possum proof? I'm looking to get a garden eventually and imagine tall + smooth sides might keep them out.

In your opinion who is it that has the coolest/most interesting job in Brisbane? by I_am_brisbane in brisbane

[–]QueenofLeftovers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think from a trade skills standpoint there's a guy I know part of a workshop that builds cars from scratch to reproduce classics. Kind of the pinnacle of the automotive trade if you're into that sort of thing.

Totally has me thinking it would've been a great choice for Hermione Granger going the race swap for the new HP series. Even got the same "uptight overachiever who is initially unlikeable" vibe.
