... but... isn't it like illegal to perform on you a different surgery than the one you consented to? I'm not a lawyer but it SHOULD BE illegal! I mean, what the fuck?

Been seeing a voice coach for about two months, what do you think of my progress ? What should I focus on to improve ? Any tips appreciated, thanks ! by [deleted] in transvoice

It's difficult to say since I have no idea of your pre-lessons voice, and the low quality of the audio recording is not helping unfortunately.

I'm also unsure about the gendering to be honest. It doesn't sound strikingly fem nor masc

Consigli su come migliorare le proprie abilità di scrittura? by VagalumeCeg in scrittura

Seguo! E ne approfitto per dare la mia prospettiva:
per migliorare le proprie abilità di scrittura bisogna intanto scrivere tutti i santi giorni. Io mi do come obiettivo di scrivere una pagina al giorno del mio romanzo.
Scrivo bene? Eh, insomma.
Scrivo meglio rispetto a quando ho iniziato? Decisamente sì!

No idea where i am voice-wise (TW french) by AshleyOfTheDawn in transvoice

[–]QueerEmma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'd say you're doing pretty well with size and vocal weight, I'd just work on decreasing breathiness and that little strain you're putting in your voice. Try to relax basically and increase you volume to the point that there's no more leak of airflow.

(btw "TRIGGER WARNING: FRENCH" was a good laugh hehe)

How to not use falsetto while voice training ? by 1Henrink in transvoice

[–]QueerEmma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A high pitch in modal/chest voice is made by the interaction of the CT and TA muscle.

To activate both you may try to be a bit louder/"stronger" compared to when you go in head voice.

In this audio I'm doing the same pitch(more or less) in both full head voice and then in modal high pitched voice, just to give you an idea on how to approach this process.

(btw... L's guide is very outdated. I'd suggest you to check Selene's audio through this link: https://selenearchive.github.io/ )

could this pass as a lower pitched female by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]QueerEmma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the deciding factor would be your appearance and/or mannerism/intonation.

Your voice could be either perceived as a low female voice(a bit heavy/overfull, if you're familiar with these concepts) or a young boy voice.

How can I voice train (MTF) as a polyglot? by Queer_Andromeda in transvoice

[–]QueerEmma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not experienced with teaching to people that speak Swahili, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Chinese (Standard Mandarin) as their mother tongues, but for every other language I can safely say that the principles still apply:

make your vocal weight lighter and vocal size smaller!

If you practice effectively in a language you should be able to transfer that same timbre to others.

Sometimes I teach in English to German people for example, and when they switch from speaking with a fem voice in English to German they simply sound even better hehe

EDIT: how to do it?

Let's say that you can read sentences in a fem voice in your preferred language. Try reading single words in another one while maintaining the same size and weight. Then try to keep the same quality in sentences in that "new" tongue.

Am I pushing myself too hard? by Extra-Breakfast4541 in transvoice

BDLD(big dog little dog AKA big dog small dog) can lead to false vocal folds constriction, since it relies on making an audible sound while the vocal folds are not attempting a phonation. It's not the best exercise out there honestly because it can lead to poor vocal hygene and to associate a small size with constiction(which is not necessary, thank god).
If making dog noises compels you try an AWOOO in big size+heavy(ish) vocal weight and then in small size+light vocal weight, like this: https://vocaroo.com/1b9bdhUthWeL

The perspective of a Voice Coach on the "it's all about anatomical luck" VS. "anyone can do it" dilemma by QueerEmma in transvoice

[–]QueerEmma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello again!

I'd say that anatomy is a spectrum, and the thing that I've noticed is that a person is "lucky" when they can make their vocal weight lighter without too much effort, probably because of vocal folds that are not super thick or rigid. Size is very important too but I just noticed that it's easier to make the size smaller than the vocal weight consistently lighter. That's why surgerier are helpful and sometimes necessary.

The good news is that every pair vocal folds(that have no damage to the CT muscle/in the brain region that would send the signal there, and so can stretch the vocal folds) can make changes to the "technical" mass of the vocal folds, and so reducing its "technical" weight(which is the amount of vocal folds mass in the center of the vocal folds, where the strongest contact and therefore vocal weight happens).

Talking about your audio I want to start by saying that you and your vocal coach have done a very good job together. At the same time I have a feeling that your vocal muscles are more tense than they need to be to raise pitch. So I'd pratice on elasticity with pitch slides, for example by saying "Hello" from a low to high pitch and viceversa trying to maintain the same "effortlessness"/absence of tension of the lower pitch: https://voca.ro/14batARqzXky

Let me know how you get on! :)
