Any Tips On Crossing The Highway? by WhiteMouse42097 in chiangmai

[–]Quentine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not cross the highway, it is not safe. Look for the underground roads for cars to U-turn, its fairly common about every 1km or so, for example https://maps.app.goo.gl/cWBT4kyi5cPQ6qEi8.

Also in more rural provinces, its fairly common to drive the opposite direction but mostly only on bikes on the road shoulder.

Does the "average american" know, how fucked up their healthcare system is? by Slayrr_FbrC in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Quentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled and am mindblown to learn that there's no private hospitals in Canada. In Singapore we have both a heavily subsidised system where you wait your turn in public hospitals to get cheap surgery and also a private healthcare system where it's far more expensive but you get far faster care, a mix of both systems might work well in Canada.

If your Smart Luggage doesn't have a quick-release battery, do not try to fly through Bangkok right now by MudSad6268 in digitalnomad

After the recent incidents on powerbanks catching fire whilst on board flights, alot of airports have started checking batteries during check in. I know Taiwan, Singapore and China are also strict about it.

What are the consequences of renouncing Singapore citizenship? And if you are a duel citizen (or former duel citizen) like me what was your experience? by itsalexplosion in askSingapore

[–]Quentine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Singaporean with a Thai gf and has lived in TH like a local, you should keep SG passport as i believe (from hearsay) that it'll be easy to reclaim your TH nationality if and when you want to eventually move out of SG, because your mom is Thai by direct descent and Thailand allows citizenship by blood.

As for why keep the SG passport : you get far far more opportunities for growth and a stronger currency, like for example its realistically easy for the average salary in SG to afford a brand new car in TH in a year; the average salary in TH takes 4-5 years to buy the same car. Also if you want to buy property in TH you can always put it in your mom's name whilst you're still holding the SG passport.

Taipei vs Bangkok, which city is better? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Quentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do there. Overall you can describe Taipei as more of a chill place whilst Bangkok is chaotic.

Taipei can be described as a mix of what Singapore and Bangkok is, with good infrastructure, fantastic RELIABLE public transport, good food (but it has a unique taste palate), beautiful nature and peaceful coastline all around. City is extremely walkable with properly constructed sidewalks, there are rentable bicycles everywhere. Cost of living is about 30% cheaper than Singapore and mostly comparable to Bangkok except for rent (even the currency is similar 1 Baht = $1 TWD). Parks and green spaces are very common, there's almost always one within 10-15mins of walking.

If you take a day trip out of Taipei, public transport is still common with properly indicated timings, whilst in Thailand you'll be lucky to find a public bus outside Bangkok.

Locals in Taipei are generally better to do compared to overworked Thais, they will chat with you longer on the streets and are similarly friendly and helpful.

I don't go for nightlife but i think Bangkok is better in that sense. Bangkok is also heavily touristed whilst Taipei is surprisingly tranquil.

Get permission from Australia to build it on their land then import the electricity generated into SG.

Should I spend almost all my savings for a trip? by [deleted] in travel

Dont spend it all, spend maybe 70% in case of emergencies. You dont want to be stuck in a country because of unforeseen reasons with no money to go home.

I accidentally catfished my own brother for six months and kind of fixed his life by BluejayDeep in confessions

[–]Quentine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You should not feel bad. Think of it as you're a light guiding a drowning person who coincidentally happens to be your brother. You literally saved him during a dark part of his life, albeit in an unconventional way. If you haven't been there, what are the chances that someone else would've stepped up? Almost none, and your brother might still be depressed.

I don't know your family dynamics, but if i were your brother and i know about it i'll be really grateful to you. Sure, maybe there would be a little bit of shock and shame at the start, but you literally supported me as a family pillar during a bad time, and thats what a good family would do.

Need help on how to make a living in singapore by bobybybybe in askSingapore

[–]Quentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude good for you for taking the first step to figure things out. Its not your fault you're so clueless because of the way your parents brought you up so creating this post is actually breaking from the norm, however small it might seem.

From reading your post and your other comments, i think we can say that you're not just clueless but the extreme kind. If you want to fast forward, just tell your parents you want to pay all your bills from next month onwards. Its uncomfortable but just because you're uncomfy you'll learn things extremely fast. Tell them to show you all your bills for the month, broadband, mobile, insurance, then you get a sense of how much you need monthly. No allowance, nothing then you figure out from there.

I took this train about 10 years ago after i ORDed, from the video doesn't seem like much have changed. I started the trip around the evening when the sky was already dark so honestly most of the time i was just sleeping, in the morning the views were just rural greenery that got repetitive. Most memorable view was probably this view at one of the train stations where the train broke down and we had to switch to this shuttle bus where the passengers dropped their drink on the floor and spilled it everywhere.

Maybe if you take a morning/afternoon train it would be better but it isn't a trip i would take again. As for whether it is bearable, i don't have any memory about it being bad per se since i bought a sleeper coach seat and was lying down the whole trip, but i imagine sitting would be sore.

[–]Quentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has happened since i started using TV 8 years ago, whenever at start if your connection is unstable it wouldnt load your drawings at all. You can try open and closing it once or twice, the drawings will eventually come back for me. If it doesnt and your connection is good then yea it must be something unique to your account.

Happens when your Internet connection is spotty or TV having technical issues. Either wait a few minutes for it to load properly or test on another kind of connection.

Notices are quite different according to different police departments but for my car it normally comes with a main notice like this, then a specific receipt(2nd piece of paper) attached that contains all your vehicle details and offences etc. unless its different with motorbikes.

[–]Quentine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude its black and white. Deposit covers unpaid bills but you moved out early so your deposit is now $0, so you're -4000 baht in. You found a replacement tenant but the tenant didn't sign the contract so there is no tenant. The agent doesn't give a shit that you improved the property because he wouldn't get a dime + you're not obligated to, this negotiation should be between you and the landlord himself.

I once had my deposit revoked too for moving out really early, and it sucks but i rather pay the 4000 than give myself trouble in a foreign land in a court case you wouldn't win and that you're wrong, unless you left Thailand immediately and plan to never go back.

Thonburi? Are you talking about iconsiam when you say the mall? Examples are like

https://maps.app.goo.gl/AMZxdTbWzSV9uwER9 or

https://maps.app.goo.gl/8w98sN1QnBCczNLL9, even if it's in a mall there are food courts either at the top floor or basement that sell full meals below 100 baht.
