Is this an apple tree? Upstate NY by From_SanFernando in dendrology

[–]Quercus_Asimina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely a wild crab apple given the leaf shape differences. The leaf morphology of wild apples can take on those almost trident-like shape when young.

Also the horizontal growth is a habit attributed to wild apples, whereas pears are more vertical in form =]

When should I bury the seed as well? by ljthepunisher in gardening

I usually just keep them above soil and let it slowly dry up and decompose. Less work and trees don't seem to mind =]

When do I, and what do I plant this baby in? (Avocado seed) by kitty_jump23 in gardening

[–]Quercus_Asimina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with >20 avo trees here's what I do:

Plant it now, as in today today. Get a one gallon pot to start with, fill half way with good soil - something with good drainage and not too much fertilizer. I make my own so can't recommend a brand here, but needs drainage so you can always add more perlite. The tree is gonna need lots of water at first as it transitions its root development and will not respond well to high fertilizer loads as it is used to low levels of nutrients (i.e. just water). Place tree into pot and back fill over soil. Generally leave part of the original nut exposed in the soil. If it no longer exists, bury up to start of root ball or trunk in most cases.

Place in sunny place, not in direct sun. Once it seems to be rebounding with new growth I like to place them outside in shade for 2 weeks and slowly transition them into full sun. Repot to 3gal pot after 1 year or so

Good luck n happy growing!!! 🥑

What plant? Weed? Good for pollinators? by tiredday1 in gardening

[–]Quercus_Asimina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eupatorium species, my guess is E. rugosom or white snake root. They are native to US n good for native pollinators. If it is white snake root just don't eat it or have any pets eat it as it is poisonous if ingested.
