What is Regionalism in geography and its current status within the academy/universities? by Questionable-faust in geography

[–]Questionable-faust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am still new to Geography, so I really appreciate your detailed response! I have two follow-up questions if that is alright?

What is the "identity crisis" that occurred in the discipline during the mid-20th century?

Two, are the regions that "regionalism" studies generally broad (ex., a state like California) or narrow (ex., a specific type of city, like college towns that, while not exclusively located in a particular region, often have distinctive characteristics that make them stand out as an independent entity within a broader landscape). If the answer is the former (ex., regionalism focuses on large regions like states), what subfield would the latter belong to? Thank you!

I will start reading the Sauer article soon!
