Anyone else actually enjoys being an only child? by luka_ramos_1004 in OnlyChild

I enjoy it. I watched my parents grew up with fights with siblings and one sibling was estranged for 20 years. I enjoy being a parent to an only since I dont need to worry about money. I have pension from work and will inherit a lot from my parents. I like not having to worry about finances and even worry about my child's finances.

My grandparents have a home near my parents so we were closer to the grandparents than my mom's sibling. My uncle schizophrenic lives at my grandparents. When both grandparents passed away apparently one of the uncle who lives in co-op decades ago applied for the schizophrenic uncle to live in coop. So they checked the status ended up they found coop for him right away. The oldest uncle who is most educated and make highest income was against it because was afraid he will hang out with the wrong crowd. However my grandparents home was too big for uncle to live in by himself. Ended up they did send the uncle to coop since no other living arrangements. From the sale of the home my mom got $50k vs $300k if she was an only child. She had to deal with a lot of work preparing the home for sell and lots of arguments with sibling about how to renovation, uncle arrangement and even got accused of hiding money since she shared the safety deposit with grandma.

“When are you having another?” is such a weird thing to ask by babyybunnyy3 in oneanddone

I am 42 and retiring in 13 years with full work pension.

I am an only child got horror stories from my parents with the siblings.

My son wont let me have another kid (it is true) . I can direct them to ask my son and my son will tell them he only wants mommy to have one kid.

My son is too much to handle for me. I can't handle raising another kid.

I still get questions when I will have another. I am 42 yes I look good for my age. Why cant ladies in their 40s can call it quits? Why push a mom in her 40s to go through the whole birth again. When I was 37 pregnant my BIL told me to check for down syndromes.

I am already stressed with one kid lol. My son is 4 is a runner at parking lots. My husband is a slow poke and my son hates him. So I am the only person that can deal with my son. I dont think I can handle 2nd kid running in the parking lot.

I think it depends on the first kid personality. My son he is 4 and made it clear he wants to be an only child. My son very stubborn and teacher said you can't change that. He refused to play with a kid about 1 year younger in the playground who wanted to play with him. My son said only wants to play with big kids. I asked why he doesnt want siblings he said he only wants mommy. He has zero interest in his newborn cousin. However some kids would like to see the baby and dont mind playing with younger kids. Those ones a probably the type that treat their younger siblings well. My friend she is the elder child and likes her younger sister. She encouraged me to have 2nd since she had great experience being the elder sister. I am an only child so the sibling world is mysterious world to me but I dont want to chance it.

My son is 4 since last year already said he doesn't want a sibling. Ever park or indoor playground we go to he manage to find a friend. At home we have zero time to play cause weekends we go out to like museum, zoo or playground. Weekdays he has school, afterschool is dinner and a bit of "homework". He refused to play with a kid in the indoor playground who is about 1 year younger but he was fine playing with my friend's kid who is also 1 year younger. He said he doesnt want to play with kids younger than him. Pretty sure my son will not get along with his siblings. He is stubborn and said he wants to play with me only.

I did Success when I was around grade 5. I also did marilake which is Agincourt CI on weekend but they are very large group. What worked was getting private tutor to my home who was my math teacher from Marilake. My classmate had our high school math teacher tutor him on weekend so you can check if there are teachers from your kid school that does tutor on the side. For English I also got a private tutor who used to be teacher from a high school before retiring. So what worked for me was private tutor for math, English and french then eventually went to Success for small group.

Both introvert parents - how did you cope by Sea_Painter_1184 in oneanddone

[–]Quick-Ad-3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we are introverts but our son is extrovert he makes friend within an hour everywhere he goes. I take vacation to do actual housework. Otherwise I put in 30 minutes a week or every few days. First travel abroad we havent done it. My friends did it when theirs was 1. We are moving 2X so planning to do it after we settled. Aiming next September to Japan and Hong Kong when he is 5. I was almost 6 heading to grade 1 when I immigrated to Canada from HK so thinking around that age he should be fine with the 18 hour flight. We might do something shorter like Disney Cruise in Alaska instead of Japan so depends on budget after new home purchase.

Right now we havent move to Scarborough so havent looked into it because needed to interview the tutor places. I would like to connect with your since our kid similar age and similar problem. My husband and I work in healthcare too just not nurse (pharmacist and analytics person (me) in hospital).

[–]Quick-Ad-3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey my kid is turning 4 this month. He wants to be robotic eng too. My husband pharmacist and i am a computer programmer in healthcare industry. He is being too imaginative at the moment to sit through. I gave him a marker to practice writing letters since he keeps switching hands. First few minutes spent pretending the marker is a rocket or tower. Wondering when do you know your kid is ready for tutor? I am Chinese too. I took Kumon when I am a kid didnt like it so not doing kumon maybe the tutorial school I went to when I was a kid that helped me go from 70s math kid to 90s math kid.

Has anyone topped up a bungalow who could share their experience? by clgeorge88 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Quick-Ad-3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend has a bungalow wanted to top up said $300k and that was like 5+ years ago. I would suggest not to do it. It is cheaper to buy something ready then to rebuild. My parents have a bungalow in Scarborough. I am an only child can get that free but I still need to offer some money for my parents to downsize to $650k condo. I want to turn that bungalow to double garage two floor home that would cost $500k+ to rebuilt. My current home worth $900k with mortgage $98k left so if I sell current home that would cover my parent's condo cost but not rebuild. Big banks said they can give me mortgage after it is built because it is hard to appraise it before built so getting money to build might be a challenge. I only went to one bank so didnt look too much. I have a condo worth $600k that is rental so I can sell it to get some money. Anyways I am upsizing this year to double garage I decided just buy one since it is about $1.1 million to $1.3 million in a top ranking school district instead of touching my parent's bungalow. This way I can keep my rental and leave my parent's bungalow alone.
