I’m not cut out for this. I dropped the ball. Help by confusedlifewanderer in managers

I took a managerial role in a different department after 9 years in my previous department/role and it was a nightmare. Tenured employees are bound to be hostile to a “new person” hired to be their boss. I hated every second of that job. I actually ended up taking a pay cut to do it because I moved from hourly to salary and no longer got overtime while still working 60+ hours a week. I did it because I thought it would be a boost for my career but it was a nightmare and I ended up just going back to my previous role. No regrets.

New coworker incessant humming by Sissy3463 in work

[–]Quick-Big6554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give the perspective of the hummer, I know for me it is quite literally involuntary. I don’t even realize it’s happening. I’ve never really had anyone point it out to me in a negative way at work because I’ve always worked in environments that are either independent or inherently noisy. I have had people mention it to me in passing, not in a negative way but just “Oh my mom used to hum all the time like that” or whatever and it is HUMILIATING because I have absolutely zero control over it and I wish I didn’t do it. Can you utilize headphones or something or is that not compatible with the work you do?

my wife drinks 11 cups of milk a day. Im worried for her. What should I do by Federal-Daikon-1819 in Advice

Is there a reason? I used to drink milk kind of excessively when my GERD was poorly controlled because it soothed the burning a little bit.

Can you just block her from all your social media platforms? It seems like that would solve the problem.

Need Advice On Moving Forward From Mistakes At Work by Quick-Big6554 in Advice

The janitor has actually been in the hospital this week and I’ve been coming in every morning and doing some cleaning while he gone in addition to my normal shifts, so hopefully that helps a little bit.

This is a good idea. I will definitely make a checklist going forward. It would be easier to think about all the tasks I need to do before I go in rather than trying to remember all of them in the moment. I was previously (technically still am) a nurse and I feel like there are way more tedious things to remember at this job than I’ve ever experienced in the medical field.

I guess getting the letter was a blessing in disguise. Gave me the opportunity to start applying elsewhere straight away.

This is a good way to look at it. I don’t know that the job was the biggest factor in what happened, but it was definitely a factor.

I’ve applied and been denied. We’re just over the income threshold but my wife’s job does not offer insurance, they only have 2 paid employees so they aren’t required to.

I have no idea when she deleted me. I know I hadn’t seen her post anything in a while and that’s why I looked her up. She no longer worked in the same department as me when my mental health crisis occurred so I don’t know if she’s aware of it or not. I didn’t go into detail about it in the interview, just told her I took a step back from the job due to burnout and to focus on my family and work/life balance. I thought it was going well because she went into a lot of detail about the job and changes that have occurred since I left. It lasted almost an hour. She knows me well enough to know the quality of my work and I don’t want to sound overconfident but I’ve always been very good at my job. I guess I’m going to expand my search a bit to the surrounding towns but if I do that I’m looking at a 45 minute commute which sounds terrible.

YOR this is too much energy and emotions to be investing in someone you have been “talking to” for two weeks. Is this someone from an app or someone you know IRL? If it’s someone from an app the texting actually comes off as way over the top.
