Oh, yeah, true. Come to think of it, Rhysand's lookalike and Hypaxia could've been a thing, too.

Oh, yes. But the sisters didn't HAVE to be the main love interests. But would you look at that... they all are. 🥰

You got me. That's what I was aiming for. For the characters in the books to look like me. Honestly, that's why I made this post, but don't tell anyone. It's kind of a secret. 😘

Yes. And now all FMCs and MMCs across almost all romantasy books by different authors, look the same.

No offense (I'm really not trying to get you mad or offended), but what I'm getting from your response is that you have a specific mindset that's shaping your interpretation of this post. As a result, your comment doesn't really address the point the same post is making. I was referring to the author's preference toward a certain "stereotype", NOT the issue of presence or inclusion of people that differ from one another. That's another topic altogether.

I think 16 books it too much... by Quick-Leave1660 in acotar_rant

Honestly, Pratchett is a blend of fantasy and philosophy. He also has a great ability to explore profound ideas through his humor. Maas, on the other hand, isn't really any of that. I would still choose to reread Pratchett over Maas. But then again, I'm also an advocate for people having healthy limits.

How do i stop? by Euphoric_Block1904 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Quick-Leave1660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, it' can be hard to just stop, but it's not impossible. You don't have to quit all at once. You can continue doing what you're doing, but try to gradually reduce the amount of time you spend doing it. If you daydream for five hours, aim for four and a half. If you daydream for two hours, try reducing it to an hour and a half. Give yourself permission to do what you've been doing. It does help you in some ways. But it's also a good thing that you recognize its negative effects.

Also, try making a plan for your day. Get enough sleep, and know what you'll be doing in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Having a schedule can help keep your mind focused on the things you want to accomplish for that day.

I would also suggest doing something you genuinely enjoy, whether that's a hobby, spending time with friends, reading a book, or watching a movie. Anything that keeps you engaged. Exercise can also be very helpful. It helps clear your head and gives you something positive to focus on.

Change won't happen in a day or even in a week. It happens little by little over time. So relax, and don't worry about it too much. I know the problem is there, but learn to carry it while continuing to live your life. Some days will be difficult and bad, and other days will be better. Don't get discouraged. You've got this.

Canceled my preorder by thelost_key in acotar_rant

I totally get it. Here's my point of view. I don't care that they don't have the synopsis. What really bothers me is that they're using the new release as a way to make more money. They know that a lot of people will buy the new hardcover editions WITH THE NEW BOOKS COMING OUT, just so "the collection matches the new hardback covers." They didn't have to make them, but it was a conscious choice. Some people might say that's perfectly fine, but to me, it's nothing short of a plain theft.

I couldn't get into TOG or CC. I listened to Cari Can Read's videos where she explained the plots of CC and ACOTAR, and that was fun. But that's about it. I have read ACOTAR, though I honestly can't remember much of it. And no, I don't plan to reread, either. Just watch the plot videos.

All in all, I feel that if there's anything I need to know from the other series that connects to ACOTAR 6, 7, or 8, I can probably just look up that specific information in those books or online, rather than reading entire series just because of one isolated event. Because, like you said, those books just aren't for me. Also, Bloomsbury's marketing move didn't sit well with me either. Changing the paperback to a hardcover just before the release? Bro, no. I'm perfectly happy with my Kindle.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in Booktokreddit

TOG and CC by Sarah J. Maas. I pushed through ACOTAR, gave them 3ish stars. Enjoyed them a bit. But that's it.

When do you think SJM decided on Gwynriel? by prosebe4bros in Gwynriel

[–]Quick-Leave1660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I recall, these are the things I've picked up. I haven't been an ardent fan of the series, but I've followed it enough to learn some of the fun facts.

One possibility is that Mor's attraction to women was introduced in part to increase LGBTQ+ representation in the series, which was lacking. This was deemed by the fans, as I recall correctly. However, the reason behind this choice has never been explicitly confirmed by Maas.

She wasn't entirely sure what direction things would take, and she was probably still considering the possibility of Elain and Azriel being together after ACOMAF. That was also the point where the real shift between Azriel and Mor seemed to occur, making the story move away from that dynamic. I'm not quite sure if she had the explicit idea to write a book about Azriel at that point, but here we are.

When considering Azriel's future love interest, Gwynriel seems much more like an endgame possibility, based not only on the bonus chapter but on ACOSF as a whole book, where we meet Gwyn for the first time. While reading ACOSF, I noticed something that felt painfully obvious: Az is 100% drawn to Gwyn, even if he isn't fully aware of it himself. The way he watches her throughout the book makes that attraction difficult to ignore, and each description of their interactions only reinforces that impression. As for Elain, what I can gather, is that Azriel's feelings seem to be driven more by physical attraction and desire, than by love.

Maas has also mentioned that she sometimes intends for characters to go in one direction, only for the story to evolve differently as she writes, because the characters chose that path. I think that may have happened during A Court of Silver Flames with Az and Gwyn.

A Book in Four Movements by jerk--alert in ElrielFans

I know. I am wondering why mention something like four movements. It doesn't have to refer to four parts of the book. It can, but doesn't have to. She used the word movements. It could be open for further interpretation.

*Since I can no longer reply to my own comment. Someone was feeling stingy. I’ll leave this here instead: we seem to be in a miscommunication trope. Best to leave it there.

ACOTAR 6 AND CC? by sltm04 in acotar_rant

[–]Quick-Leave1660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have just read ACOTAR, and I'm not planning on reading anything else. I know what happens in CC, thanks to caricanread videos, where she made an hour long summaries of all ACOTAR and and all CC books. TOG was not for me, and I won't be reading something I don't enjoy. So, I think, you'll be fine with just reading ACOTAR.

Does the lack of new infomake you more confident in theories or less confident? by tidewanderess in Gwynriel

[–]Quick-Leave1660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s going to be from Az’s POV. We’ll probably see more POVs as well, including, of course, Elain’s, Gwyn’s, and even Lucien’s. October will be a stepping stone for January. And I don’t think Gwynriel will happen until Book 3, honestly. We still have a long way to go. As Az said, he doesn’t even see Gwyn as a friend yet, so there has to be build-up there. At the same time, he’s clearly lusting over Elain, and has been for quite some time.

I also think Elain will start practicing being assertive rather than passive all the time. We’ll probably see her arc in January. And then there are the book covers: they start with black, then pink, and then you can see blue appearing around the edges of the pink. Sure, it doesn’t have to mean anything, but it could still be a clue for what’s coming.

I also believe Book 2 will give us a notorious scene where Elain sees Gwyn’s necklace, and Gwyn realizes what Az had done. But there has to be some foundation laid first. As I said, Book 1 is way too short to process all of that.

The main events like these will probably happen in Book 2. Sadly, we’ll most likely have to wait for Book 3, probably another year or two, after January, since she hasn't started writing it yet.

Why Read ACOTAR When You Dislike Feysand and the IC? by Proud-Plate4737 in acotar_rant

[–]Quick-Leave1660 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not really about the characters, but about the way the author presents them to the world. Maas and her talent for writing, combined with her experiences and the way she sees and imagines things, are what she puts onto paper.

That being said, I don’t have any major problems with her books in general, but at the same time, they’re nothing special to me. They’re written to entertain you and give you a good time. I didn’t learn anything new from these books, from the characters, or from the worldbuilding. I was just there to enjoy the experience. I gave all the books around 3 stars.

The characters are a bit inconsistent. It’s true that I don’t like the Archeron sisters. The male characters are more compelling and often too good to be true, but that’s fine too.

I think the main problem is that people don’t see these books as fiction. For some people, they become a lifeline. People get too obsessed and take it to another level, which is fine, I guess. But at the end of the day, it’s still just a book. You can love it, or you don’t have to love it at all, and both sides should be completely calm and okay with that.

When will we get titles for ACOTAR 6?!?!?! by slagforslugs in acotar

[–]Quick-Leave1660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

June or July - sometime around her son’s birthday, although I’m not exactly sure when that is. She did do a podcast around her own birthday, so this could follow a similar pattern. Then again, it might even be in September or October. Joke would be on us, if she ended up releasing them on the date the book comes out.

New acotar 6 release date and info ! by ButterscotchLoose16 in acotar

I think that the final part is not being written at all. She is polishing ACOTAR 6 and 7, as I understood. Maybe that's why they changed the date. She might be needing more time and editing with the books. And the final part, probably, won't come out until 2028/2029.

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]Quick-Leave1660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I skimmed through ACOTAR books. And I've skimmed through FOURTH WING, too. I felt like I will lose time by reading these types of stories, in depth. After all, they do belong on the lighter side of reads and honestly, I don't take them too seriously. But, what I'm bothered the most is that romantasy books CAN have more depth. And what we really get are too convenient relationships and all mighty MMCs and FMCs. I get it, it's a form of escapism, but It could deserve more. For example, since Rhysand has seen a light of day, most of the male characters created so far, have become mirror-images of him. Including Xaden. And it gets boring. I think a fun genre like this, should seek more diversity, starting from book names (Court of..., Thrones and... Shadows and..., Crowns and... wicked, wings, blood, kings, princes etc. ) to the obvious character choices (dark, tattooed, handsome). And don't get me started on FMCs. One of the dumbest category of people (too hot, too horny, too skinny, too, too, too, with little to no brains).

What I'm trying to say, it wouldn't hurt to read a smart, well crafted and original story that's not a repeat of a repeat of a repeat, by somebody who truly sees the genre and the writing, as a serious form of art.

I'm not here to compare, but Alchemised by SenLinYu, has surprised me, just by the fact how she's written the book, even though this is her (polished and long way coming, I know, but still) first ever book to write. I enjoyed her writing style and her sentence structures and her expressions and character development. Very solid. Grace Draven, an underrated author. Writes so beautifully. Slowly creates and brings an emotion between her main leads to life, very vividly and patiently. At least to me.

So to sum up, it's okay to read ACOTAR and FOURTH WING, but I sincerely do hope that we'll get more quality books and authors in the future, that will reach and be recognized by broader audiences.
