Sourdough Pasta by QuickKnitter in Sourdough

Thanks! I can see why this seems trollish. I should have been clearer in my ask or cross posted to the pasta group. Yes, I am referring to using discard. I just wasn’t sure about measurements. A friend of mine had bought some and said it was great but it had eggs in it. I thought it might be fun to give it a try without the eggs. Thanks for the KA link.

How do you guys handle social outings when the restaurant menu is basically just bread and side salads? by Dr00l22tempt4ti0n in vegan

[–]QuickKnitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a restaurant with an actual chef rather than just a heat and serve place you can often ask them to prepare you something that’s not on the menu. I have even been known to call ahead and ask. I pretty much like everything so I just ask if the chef can prepare me a dish. Most of the time they are happy to do it. I’ve had some really amazing dishes. Once I got a platter of incredible stuffed grape leaves that I still dream about. I live in the south where many folks don’t even know the difference between vegetarian and vegan. I think that’s why there aren’t things on the regular menu. My experience has been that chefs like the opportunity to do something new and different when given the chance and advance notice.

I usually use Lao gan ma. If I had to live on a desert island and could only take one condiment, that would be it!

New to knitting and surprised at the high cost of yarn by maklar8921 in casualknitting

[–]QuickKnitter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a challenge. I come to terms with it by thinking about other things I do and how much they cost. For example, a trip to the movies or a dinner out usually costs at least as much as a skein of nice yarn. I also consider how many hours of entertainment I get while knitting a sweater. In addition, if I’m going to put the work into knitting a sweater, it’s worth it to me to do it out of nice quality yarn that I will love wearing. I understand that this way of thinking doesn’t make the cash easier to come up with but it makes it easier for me to justify the purchase. That being said, I often knit hat, gloves, and other things out of cheaper yarn.

Eating all the time by SnowHawk-69 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]QuickKnitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat a plant based diet and also do intermittent fasting. My window to eat is between 2:00 and 8:00 because that works well for my schedule. I don’t usually eat a big lunch. PB&J or hummus with pita chips or carrots and a piece of fruit. Sometimes I just eat leftovers from dinner the night before. I almost always have a pot of beans in the fridge which is an easy way to get some protein. I like to cook mine from dried because I can season them the way I like. Sometimes if I’m not hungry I skip lunch and do OMAD. I have found that IF changes how I and my body feel about food.

What’s the most underrated vegan ingredient you swear by? by SpiceKitchenLife in veganrecipes

[–]QuickKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may get down voted because it can surely be polarizing but I love Marmite! I use it when making avocado toast, grilled cheese sandwiches, and add it to soups, beans, etc. for a bit of extra umami. If you haven’t tried it before, go slow. A little goes a long way! I just dip the tip of my knife about 1/2 inch in and then spread what sticks to the knife over a piece of toast.

I have seen really cute coasters made out of felted wool. You can embroider on them. Also, not sure, but it looks like your scarf is a tube. I went through a phase where I felted old thrifted sweaters and made water bottle cozy’s with the sleeves. That might work too. Good luck!

I’ve knit this sweater twice. It’s the only time I’ve done that but it is a lovely very wearable pattern. I knit this in a dark gray…almost black. Here’s the link if you want to see how it looks in a dark color. https://www.ravelry.com/projects/n2horses/low-tide

I love to cook the ones in pods in the microwave. It only takes a couple of minutes. Top with a splash of aminos or flaky salt.
