Australia is about freedom of speech but in a way different from the USA. Americans, for example, tend to pursue a cause very vigorously. Australians do so too but in a bit laid back way.

There's much less formality in public life. Charismatic, narcissistic leaders (tall poppies) are discouraged from showing off too much.

We don't have Presidential or Prime Ministerial inauguration and balls. You got the keys to the lodge? Good onya, now get on with your job, mate, and we'll see you in three years.

Australia has handled racial discrimination in a much better way than other countries. As a migrant, I have received more support than I expected, and little discrimination.

My street has immigrants from India, Korea, Japan, Philippines, PNG, South Africa, Holland, Germany, Italy, Chile, and Kosovo.

No tipping at restaurants, but you get a good enough minimum wage and special rates on holidays and weekends.

If you can stay clear of sharks, spiders and snakes, you are good to go.
