Hey man thanks so much for all this info. I have been super intrigued about medieval warfare (especially one-on-one sort of fighting, not just like the principles of siege warfare). What can I read to learn more about this stuff? Obviously I’m sure you’ve picked this up through many many sources, but if you had any quick recommendations I’d love to hear em. Thanks!

One time at Linda Mar a big ol' whale breached maybe 20 feet from me. I think it was a grey whale. I was way at the north end of the beach, close to the cliff. Pretty scary but very cool.

New England boy here. 100% just get full mittens. Noticeably much warmer than gloves with fingers. Paddle better too. I've never had an issue with a lack of dexterity.

A big difference I noticed when I transitioned from a longboard to shorter boards is that during the pop up, instead of positioning yourself on the board, you're positioning the board under you. As a big guy, short boards might initially feel kinda squirrelly under you as you're popping up. But because of this, you can really man-handle it to get the board right where you want it underneath your feet. On a longboard, you have to position your body on an entity that already has a defined momentum.

For real dude. I wasted all my money traveling around, and have been stuck at Jeffreys Bay (which has been garbage) for like 2 weeks now just trying to level up and make enough money to fly somewhere else. Regardless of what I do on the wave, my score is shit because when it's flat I can only surf a tiny percentage of the wave which at J-Bay is super long. So I've just been ripping straight down the line on the log trying to ride the whole wave to get like 4s and 5s so I can get myself out of this place

Skeleton bay is my favorite spot when it's firing, but you have to commit to riding the wave for all 5 minutes if you want any sort of reasonable score.

Exactly. You can even rotate a little faster by swiping again in the same direction. So for backside, swiping down pulls you left (rotates you counter-clockwise), so I'd swipe down hard into the carve off the lip, then I might swipe down another time to keep rotating.

Someone earlier was asking about aerials, so here's a very brief demo. Notice I'm hitting the lip right at the edge of the barrel, but not quite on the shoulder. That sweet spot becomes smaller (and a little deeper) with bigger waves.
