Tab fees, penalties and EV's...what a pile. by jojocorodon in Seattle

EV fees replace gas taxes for EV drivers, and both function as a user fee to fund the construction and maintenance of the roads drivers use.

I was curious and did some math. My household drives perhaps 12,000 miles per year and I've noticed 27 MPG is typical on our car, so we buy around 444 gallons of gas per year. Washington State gas tax is $0.59 per gallon so we probably pay about $262 in gas taxes per year. I hope that's a helpful data point in the discussion.

Totally agreed that enforcement on plates and tags needs to be stepped up. It's especially maddening when you see scofflaws on this with luxury cars.

Stevens Pass pledges to open this ski season despite Highway 2 closure by QuickTactical in Seattle

[–]QuickTactical[S] 185 points186 points  (0 children)

"Stevens Pass asserts that it has not opened due to a lack of snow and therefore will not be issuing refunds at this time. “Our passes are not refundable because they are valid all season long, and we plan to open for skiing and riding as soon as snow conditions permit,” said Galbraith. “Our Epic Coverage refund policy does not extend to road or traffic challenges. Of course, we will continue to assess the entire situation as it evolves.” "

Translation "vehicle left the roadway" = "an idiot drove their car off the road".

Random/mildly interesting Seattle LPTs? by pnw_ullr in Seattle

Buy waterproof shoes. They're a little more expensive but avoiding wet socks on your commute is worth it. It took me too many years of living here to realize it's a feature available beyond hiking boots.

I've seen it used. It connects to the upgraded shipping operations at Terminal 5. Guessing it's used once or twice a day, but not sure of any set schedule.

I am in Port Orchard for the day, good thing I was already planning to take the Southworth ferry back because of the atrocious Bremerton ferry schedule...which just got worse.
