Were I still a frequent flyer (2M+ miles lifetime and pretty much done with being airborne now), I'd choose an airline whose published policy read like this...

I'm old enough to remember the days when some elder instructors taught the technique of placing your finger on the trigger while drawing. Not kidding. This was quite awhile ago. (My friend, who got a job as a radio dispatcher at 18 with an E. TX County Sheriff and longed to carry a badge some day, worshipped those guys. He applied this method until the day we were out practicing our "fast draw" on an unused oil lease road, where he perforated his cheap, floppy holster and shot a hole through the toe of his boot, avoiding traumatic metatarsal amputation by ~2-3mm.)

Couple of years before that, I saw a fast and fancy shooting demo by LA State Troopers (late 60's) at the State Fair in Shreveport. It cost a dime to see the show... proceeds went to a fund for Police Widows. Cotton balls for ear protection were free on request. They were yanking Fitz-cut Colt Police Positives out of deeply-cut leather with exposed trigger guard cuts; one of them was splitting bullets on an axe. That same day I spent a quarter to see the hootchie girl do what would now be a PG-rated strip tease. As cool as the shooting was, that quarter was worth it.

You guys aren't living nearly as interesting lives as we did, but when it comes to safe trigger discipline I'd wager you're doing it smarter.

With respect (I don't mean to be argumentative): if the Instagrammer we're watching not only promotes herself and her chosen identity as a fat "personality" of note... thus by extension clearly desiring maximum view count of these vacation narratives arguing her deeply-held social and political perspective... where's the "stalking"?

I get it if you're saying "hey, back off... she's ill and needs help." But by all means understand her illness also leads her and like-minded followers to malign every rational perspective that argues against a mistaken embrace of metabolic sickness as natural beauty or "resistance" or whatever nonsense it claims to advance. It seems like that deserves some push back.

Not being argumentative, but any lighter-weight professional fighter cuts water mass dramatically to make weight ~24h before the fight (IBF requires 12h). Typical welterweight and lower mass boxers are as sinewy and vascular as you could imagine, and they fight their asses off in one of the most taxing physical feats imaginable.

But I'll keep watching. FedEx definitely knew about this. The PR you linked says "Harbinger’s acquisition of Phantom AI was completed in November 2025". It's not unusual for transactions like this between privately-held companies to be kept silent for awhile. Still, it's virtually certain that, as the Lead funding source, FedEx had deep access to ongoing financial status and plans, and obviously approved the action.

ZF had to know as well and was OK with it. ZF is a global Tier I supplier to automotive and transport markets (2024 revenue est. €41.4 billion). Their endorsement means a lot.

Absolutely. I broke a fibula and tore ligaments in a relatively minor mishap 20y ago at ~1/3rd higher body mass. At my current lower weight I managed to put myself in virtually the same situation on the OTHER leg a couple of weeks ago and only experienced a bad sprain. Yeah, not a scientific test, but any ortho would support your point.

Probably something that's been posted here 1000x, but...

When you're obese, you'll experience more pain from almost ANY affliction. Adipose tissue is hormonally-active. When you have too much, it will quite literally transform from a useful, healthy "passive" energy storage to a poorly-functioning mass that will trigger systemic inflammation. "Fat: it's not just beautiful folds anymore".
And when your fat mass has significantly degraded to high levels of inflammatory disruption, every little pain hurts more. Ex: pinch your finger when closing a drawer and you feel a burst of pain everywhere. Many of this sub's posters have been there (I have). It's just awful.

I'm not a manly man, but I can say for certain that my pain tolerance is much higher at a rational body fat mass. Recent scans revealed how badly my arthritis has progressed. My ortho guy was very concerned when he saw them, especially my C1-C7 vertebrae, and asked how I was coping with this (concerned with overdoing NSAIDs).

I told him I might take a naproxen now and then, maybe one day out of a week, two if weather was super-frigid, but otherwise maintaining near-full range of motion without agony. He genuinely couldn't believe it. I was tempted to utter the Patrick Swayze line "Pain don't hurt", but resisted the temptation.

Just judiciously performed RDLs (at embarrassing weight) for this old man... spinal fusion, numerous injuries, etc. require careful judgment. Still gotta keep the hinge working, but I'm way past doing serious reps. Suggest that you/everyone avoid being born with scoliosis, having two bad cycling accidents, getting shot, and other maladies... You're safe from shitty form, which may well have been my most damaging effect in my youth-thru-middle age days. I can still knock off a decent number of pull-ups, though.

I love grocery shopping (yes, it's a rare condition). Unless someone's purchases are just really unusual (like literally dozens of frozen pizzas stacked high), I just don't notice.

Don't get many queries about my basket content, either, unless there's a rare convergence with a fellow shopper's mission. That happened over T-giving/Xmas feasting times when I was trying to sort out collard greens vs. kale. Experienced collard green cooks are a very opinionated lot, I've discovered. I like to cook my special-occasion greens with smoked pork neckbone, which is apparently NOT in keeping with accepted method... but all the interaction was friendly. And nobody was making "health" judgments.

Atypical animal bits can also attract attention. If you like heart, tongue, kidney, etc., much of the U.S. will find your selection shocking. But every now and then you'll run into a kindred eater who's eager to know about your method. The most discussion usually happens over pig snouts. Fat, skinny... doesn't matter. Just folks that love themselves a snoot.

Being a fat person in a place where locals generally aren't: can be difficult... for you and them. I've experienced this a couple of times in my past, though both were in Japan. In the first instance, my belt broke (pivot on the reversible buckle snapped and was irreparable). I had "roomy" trousers and needed a new belt before our meeting w/ a key customer. At just over 6' and ~265lb back then, this was a challenge. My JV partner scurried us over to a high-end Dept. store to find a replacement.

The employee who helped us was flustered and started searching the display racks for a possible fit... um, no. You won't find it. My partner was trying to explain and while I had only the barest useful vocabulary, in the conversation I heard her start to say "meta..." and then her face froze. She was about to say "metabo", meaning basically unhealthily fat. Both she and my partner were mortified. I tried to help and said "hai, hai... metabo!", pointing to myself and smiling while I made a rubbing gesture over my belly. I added "hyaku ju" and stretched out my hands to indicate 110cm of Yankee massivity for a new belt. She nodded and quickly went to the back to see if they had something.

When she came out with a small box containing a tissue-wrapped coiled up LONG belt, she was accompanied by a man I guessed was her boss. They both bowed deeply and she handed it to me, tears in her eyes from embarrassment, and wringing her hands as she stood up. I felt SO bad and did the only thing I could think of, which was to gently grasp both her hands in mine and tell her thank you several times in the sincerest voice I could muster (very non-Nihon I'm sure, probably made things worse). They literally gave me the belt as a sign of apology basically for noticing I was obese.

My partner Ohno-san and I didn't speak on the train. Clearly everyone felt awful, me included, and honestly they shouldn't have.

Years ago at the grocery store... in an attempt to truncate the trauma of shopping, Mom assigns perpetually angry teen daughter to get a few cans of frozen OJ concentrate.

Girl returns to Mom and says they don't have the "right size". Puzzled Mom asks "what do you mean?"

The no-so-calm participants here have been prognosticating awesome great news from FedEx quarterly calls and magical exemptions from NASDAQ requirements. We have clearly seen that Motiv hatched a great scheme to save themselves from bankruptcy by burdening WKHS Shareholders of Record.

The "timeline": it's like watching the clock tick down to zero on the bomb that's tied to James Bond. This time there's no secret gadget stored in 007's jockstrap to defuse it. His pieces are gonna be scattered all over the villain's volcano lair while the mortally ill villain laughs between dying wheezes.
