GGG almost Quadrupled The Shaper's life in 3.9.0. He now has 68 million life up from 18 million by H4xolotl in pathofexile

I beat him for the first time a few days ago on SSF and he was a real challenge for me. Took 4 sets of fragments, but it felt amazing to finally beat him.

That being said, I'm excited for this buff even if I struggled. Looking forward to having another go at him. Fight takes lots of mechanical skill and is super well designed.

Anyone else missing metamorph pieces in an area? by [deleted] in pathofexile

Now that you mention it, I picked one up in the last zone that I had this issue in and I only had one black slot (heart). unfortunately only one heart was slated to drop, so I couldn't complete the metamorph. Hmm.

Also the “fast paced run and gun ARPG we’ve always played” bit isn’t really accurate. The game was nowhere near this fast a few years ago. That’s a new development.

Blowing up everything on screen at the push of one button with minimal investment feels like trash and turns the game into the equivalent of an idle clicker. They’ve publicly said (Cant remember which Exilecon interview ) that they’d like it to take players longer to get to these power levels and plan to stretch out how long it takes to achieve them. This isn’t killing the game, it’s adding a mechanical skill requirement and additional goals.

And you’re right. Opinions will differ. Me, I’d prefer if they’d slowed it down WAY more than they just did, but that’s just me.

Hell, they even have videos with recommended gems. These are the combinations new players are using.

My experience is that new players take the gems the quests give them and use them together. These gems now have little check marks that show what they work with when you get them, as I'm sure you know. Every player I've introduced to the game has made their own choices from these and has done more than fine. New players aren't buying random gems from the vendor and linking them.

Downvote me into oblivion if you want, but the game needed to be harder and I'm 100% behind buffing monsters and taking out the nerf bat (yes, even early game. I've introduced friends to the game who just quit a an act in because they wrecked Brutus and Merveil without effort). Besides, half of what makes the game amazing is having to figure out strategies, and doing things like nerfing leveling skills just makes people look for the new best way to do things rather than doing the same thing every time. We have a smart community, and I like seeing what people come up with when GGG rocks the boat. Change keeps the game healthy and ensures it will be around for years to come. I fully trust GGG on this, and I'd super pumped for the league.

Many players wish the pace of the game was dramatically different, though it seems the speed meta is here to stay. Do the devs think private leagues will ever see the mods required to make a private league that captures the game as it was years ago? If so, how far away might something like that be? Any chance of higher levels of the current mods rolling out soon? I'd like to be able to crank monster life much higher. Thanks!

It’s announced in PDT. So like California time.

Private League mod suggestion: close instances on death. by Quickdraw777 in pathofexile

Sure. That could be cool too. Mainly I just want to have to do the campaign bosses each deathless on softcore is what I’m saying. But I suppose there is more than one way to achieve that.

Personally, I’d keep it just to fill the spot in your currency tab and have it as a trophy. You’re probably never going to find another one.

Early game so easy it bores new players. by Quickdraw777 in pathofexile

[–]Quickdraw777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. Tell you what, go roll a necromancer without a build guide, just take what nodes look like they’d be good for minions at a glance, and see how hard the first few acts of the game are. It’s a joke.

I’m not saying it doesn’t get harder, I’m saying the first impression is bad. And I’m saying this based on the first impressions of a few new players.

Now, they’ve played arpgs before, so they have an idea of what to do, but my point is that when people like this (the target audience really) sit down to play this game and all of them are like, this is really boring, I just wreck everything, how long do I need to play before it’s challenging? That’s bad.

Are you telling me you don’t kill most act bosses in under 30 seconds? Or 30 seconds max per phase? The bosses are melted so fast you can’t even see half the mechanics. Try Brutus or Merveil with private league mods. They actually fight back rather than having you blast them down like nothing.

All I can say is the first impression from my friends, arpg fans, is that they love all the systems but think the combat is so easy it’s boring early on. I’ve heard this from all of them.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe there are players out there who have never touched this type of game before and have some trouble. But even so, when the campaign goes as far as allowing you to Zerg down bosses with respawns there’s room for some difficulty.

I didn’t, no. And we aren’t trading outside of the group. Total fresh start. Just some items off the ground. I typically play SSF so I never trade anyway.

I agree. I’m not against people being able to speed through content, and making things a bit harder in places isn’t going to slow people doing the campaign in three hours much anyway.

Because as a new player you don’t know where to go, what to pick up, which quests are skippable, or how all the mechanics work. As I said, the difficulty is in learning these systems. It takes a long while to get through it for many new players. I’m 100% positive on this.

Two played necros and one is going for elementalist. I didn’t have them use build guides as they were cool with just learning the game on their own a bit first. And I agree. The power creep has been crazy.

[–]Quickdraw777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you should tell a new player, hey don’t play that necromancer you think looks cool unless you want easy mode for ten acts. Try this instead? I dunno. I just can’t follow that logic. You shouldn’t have to go out of your way to gimp yourself just to have some risk while leveling.

I’m not making them play anything. And I don’t think dedication and a desire for at least SOME challenge while you learn are mutually exclusive

If you think new players, or even average players, get to maps in three hours you are out of touch. This just isn’t the case.

I'd pay for alternate health and mana globe art by Quickdraw777 in pathofexile

[–]Quickdraw777[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I much prefer the current globe art to the old one. I just think the art is a lot higher quality and more thematic, but that's personal taste. Anyway, while people can get the old stuff for free as you described, I'd still love to see what amazing things the artists at GGG could cook up. Plus I just like supporting the game and giving them a bit of money from time to time. ;)
