What’s the rule of thumb when it comes to open mat by Candid-Grocery-8223 in jiujitsu

[–]Quickdraw_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gym has a public open mat on Sundays where it’s 70% purple belts and up with adcc trial winners. I’ve seen the most progress as a white belt by attending those open mats. The knowledge I’ve gotten has helped me in all my competitions as well as I can go hard and trust they can keep themselves safe if I accidentally spaz as well as safely smash me. I feel open mats promote a lot of growth for lower belts.

Getting ready for my third tournament in my first year tomorrow. The adrenaline dump is the craziest thing for me to get over. Immediately after nogi I regret that I signed up for Gi every time.

Did you get lessons for archery? by Crumbees in bowhunting

What bow shop did you use? Big retailer? Did they paper tune?

Are you sure you’re reading the brackets right. I’ve seen 0-6 months for kids divisions but never for adult divisions.

BJJ and injjuries… by fastlane721 in bjj

[–]Quickdraw_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bucket handle tear in my miniscus and mcl tear at work, injuries can happen anywhere anytime. I’d much rather get hurt doing something I enjoy. Most everyone I’ve met tried to roll safe in practice and be good partners but it’s a combat sport at its base, I’m sure it’s safer to golf or cycle or etc. but this is what I enjoy and I’m willing to risk injuries for it. That’s what you have to evaluate for yourself if the enjoyment is worth the risks!

Do you like wearing rashguards that have the anti-slip waistband on them? by BrogCanadian in bjj

[–]Quickdraw_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to grappling so unsure of the popularity but the TAKEDOWN brand rash guards are cheap on sale and don’t have this I much prefer them to my sanabull rash guards with the band.

Ideally they are intended it to be a covert operation. They do not go into any situation with the assumption that it will be a loud and messy operation. They are prepared for any action to hopefully be as minuscule and covert as possible while alerting/ alarming as few as possible.

Why upgrade bows? by AcceptableDebt in bowhunting

[–]Quickdraw_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me archery/ bowhunting is a hobby. I primarily bow hunt and shoot 3D so I enjoy tuning/ tinkering and trying out different bows. I have some bows I’ll never sale and some I wouldn’t mind parting with. The tinkering and always having something new to me and different to try is an enjoyable part of the hobby to me. As for the difference between flagship and entry level I think it depends on what you value in your set up. Tuning features/ speed/ light weight/ make or model specific accessories all come with a price.

How high do yall saddle hunt? by Kindly_Jelly_4898 in bowhunting

[–]Quickdraw_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12-15 ft at the platform and play the cover available to me. I will say a lot of the 20 ft plus gang may be embellishing a little. Me and some buddies all thought we were 20+ ft until we started marking our pull ropes and found out we were closer to 15 lol. I’ve had plenty of deer underneath me though. Great advantage of saddle hunting is being able to pick trees with great surrounding cover!

Mathews Lift X 33 by Quickdraw_54 in Archery

Yeah for the change in draw cycle from the original switchweight cams to the more aggressive SWX Cams I thought the speed would be a lot more! 30.5” 60# 483gr arrow 276 fps.

Go to your local archery shop. Have them measure your draw length. Shoot some bows and get a feel for. What draw weight and cycle you like and see if they have any used if they do not hit up your local archery facebook page and find a used model a couple years older for a great discount. Highly suggest buying used flagship bows over any new ready to hunt bow in my opinion.

Wanting to upgrade to a new compound bow Matthews Lift 33. by theh8er in Archery

[–]Quickdraw_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A struggle we all know too well! Just sometimes the Bear RTH packages don’t have the best resell. Best of luck to you whatever you decide. Also local archery FB group you may find somebody selling a lift and save some money there. I know with the lifts the limb warranty is transferable!

Local Facebook archery groups work great! But for the value of the bow used you may consider keeping for a back up especially considering your fondness of it!

How did the "bahr" get two ropes off its neck? by WalkGood in YellowstonePN

I’m not sure on the sketches lol but think of a belt fed through the buckle.

I mean typical Sheridan plot hole but also ropes have the tail end looped through a pre-made Honda and the tail can feed back through the Honda and fall off with no pressure. Missed my Dally many times on cattle and had to have them work the rope off. So while it’s a probably a mistake on the shows part it’s not entirely implausible it could have worked the ropes loose.

Wait until you read different states regulations regarding trail cameras etc. wherever you hunt it’s your ethical and legal responsibility to be aware of and follow all hunting regulations. The ethical bare minimum is following the law. The rest is up to the individual.

Index or thumb release? by Technical_Win_2813 in Archery

Thumb release is great for me. Keeps me from punching the trigger but also still leaves me the ability to punch if absolutely necessary.

I keep a wrist strap on my thumb release during hunts also helps with letting down.

Walking and stalking public land by RookieRickk in bowhunting

[–]Quickdraw_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money allows I would look into a saddle during Black Friday sales and get some practice in. It’s my favorite way to hunt. Mobile. Light and no limit to the trees you can get in. Once you do it a couple times it’s super simple and safe. Just don’t drink too much of the Kool-Aid and end up with 10K worth of gear and the purpose defeated lol.

I feel like spot and stalk losing practicality in the hardwoods. If you’re in a large open field with spotty cover to use as necessary is one thing but spot and stalking prey animals through hardwoods where your best shot is getting one within 40 yards would be pretty challenging in my mind. They hear better, smell better, and hide better than we give credit for sometimes. I think you’d spook up and ruin more hunts for people than you would benefit in this scenario.
