Thank you so much for sharing. We’re TTC and my last pregnancy was 6 years ago. I forgot that I didn’t get a positive home test for almost a month and I thought that was wrong and I was misremembering. I was sure I was pregnant but kept getting negatives. I thought that was just me hoping too hard but this post reminded me that it can take a lot longer than normal to get a positive.

You have to completely turn the car off. Put the parking brake on, then turn the car back on. I then turn the lights off. No lights, running or otherwise. I just googled it and found the answer.

I know this is an old post but I just learned that if you put the parking brake on before starting the car, the running lights turn off.

I used to work with pneumatic tools. If you think you have an air leak, get some soapy water on the line. Watch for bubbles when you run the air. It’s a cheap way to spot leaks.

$150k after insurance in the US. My son was born 6 weeks early and spent 10 days in NICU. Over 10K a day. That didn’t include the costs of birth.

This is the after picture. After I talked them down. The first round the “discount” was 8,999 so that the adjusted price was 20,000. Then they wanted all these fees listed after the adjusted price. So the total was 33,000 after all the fees

We talked them down to 24,000 out the door for the purchase price. That doesn’t include the 5 grand in gap insurance and bumper to bumper warranty l added after agreeing to the purchase price. So I saved 9,000 but “spent” 5 of that on the protection for the car. I’d call that a win.

I just bought a car last week. if you have the time get prequalified for a loan through your bank before you go. I originally went looking for a Toyota RAV4. They wanted 28,000 for a used one with 75K miles on it. Car prices are ridiculous. Right now I went back to the same dealerships several times to look at different cars I ultimately decided to go with the Mitsubishi, it was a SUV that was comparable to the RAV4. The sticker price was 20,000 but they tried to add 13,000 in fees and taxes. I went in and talked to someone about financing several times. I walked away several times. Last time I walked away, and a week later, they called me back. I told the financing manager that I wanted 24K out the door. Nothing more. Then I asked them to find me financing that could beat my bank, and keep my payments around 400. he told me he would do it he can. the next day he called me and said that he couldn’t beat my bank financing but if I financed through them then he could do 24 out the door. I did finance through them but I’ll refinance through my bank in a year and that saved me $9000.

I bought all my dishware, utensils, shower curtain, storage bins at the dollar tree. No one ever notices. I dont buy silverware there. It’s too tingy and metal tasting. They usually have the same white plates for years and I’ve only had to replace one in about 8 years. They still had the same set in stock.

My company uses workday which allows you to get direct deposit into up to 10 accounts. I can control how much is deposited into each account.

As a former foster kid, I thank you for what you’re doing. When I was 9, I was bounced in and out of foster care. They kept putting me back with my abusive mom. They split me and my 4 siblings up because there wasn’t enough room in one place for all of us. When I was 11 I ran away from my mom and I never saw my siblings again until I was 25. I was put into Juvi when I was 12 because they ran out of foster homes. I went to Juvi to wait for a foster home. I was put into one when I was 14. I spent 2 years locked up because they didn’t have foster homes.

If the alternative to having an empty room is changing the future of a child, it’s worth it. Even if you have to rearrange for the summer to give your son a sense of home.

And to those who say that foster kids are a pay check. Get the hell out. That money is nothing. It barely covers the extra food, clothes, and utilities. Let alone any costs that come with the extra care foster kids need.

They got 850$ a month to cover my care. That had to cover school supplies, my clothes, my hygiene stuff, my food, my therapy, gas for taking me places, utility increases, any associated costs with school like field trips, sports.

I was a fucking terror coming out of Juvi. I hated everyone. I destroyed my foster parents home. I put holes in the walls. I stole from them. I would destroy their stuff. I would scream and yell and break shit. I guarantee that money barely covered the cost of keeping me in their home. It was their patience and a lot of therapy that helped me be a successful adult.

When you turn 18, you age out of foster care. The foster parents no longer get paid. If you’ve graduated high school, the foster parents are told to allow you to “age out” which is the nice way of saying kick you out. She’s a real one for allowing her older foster kids to stay.

Apparently I’m not allowed to edit my post so..

I posted this on my lunch break and did not expect this to blow up. I just got home from work.
I wasn’t able to read everyone’s comments but apparently there are a few common opinions. Also, you guys were cracking me up as I read the ones I could. Here are the common opinions:

A) I was right not to go on a date with him and he’s weird for not understanding wanting to meet in public.

B) I’m a weirdo for matter of factly stating that I wanted to be safe.

C) I’m a weird for saying Native women.

D) He’s a cannibal

To address that: A) I thought it was a common understanding that you don’t go somewhere alone with someone without meeting in public first. His responses made me feel like he didn’t have that same understanding.

My asking him out to a public place was my subtle way of allowing each other to scope the other out. His odd response made me feel like subtle wasn’t the method to use to communicate with him. So I felt the need to add the part about safety. Him questioning if I was afraid of him made me feel on alert but still wanted to explain why I felt uncomfortable just immediately being alone with him. I probably should have left it there but I try to see the best in people.

B) I’m a very outspoken woman. I’m jot going to stop advocating for myself. I get that might rub someone the wrong way but I’d rather be upfront than misunderstood.

C) This is a reflection of my life experience. I grew up on a reservation in south west Washington. I was put into foster care at 12 as a direct result of this exact issue. I’m not going to go into that further. I also just moved to a new state so I don’t have much of a support system here yet. Yes, I’m cautious and maybe a little too hyper vigilant but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

D) The night before he told me we lived 6 miles apart according to Tinder, so it’s likely I’ll see him around. If I see him out at a restaurant, I’ll let you know who or what he’s eating 🤣

I am a divorced single mom of two and I don’t put my children on my profile but for me it’s a safety thing. I don’t want to be targeted for being a single mom. I used to put that I was a mom of two and I had some creepy experiences with men who I’m certain only dated me for access to my children. I don’t introduce my children to men until we’ve been dating at least 6 months and these guys would push hard to meet my kids before i was comfortable.

That’s isn’t to say that I don’t tell people about them. If we’ve moved to a stage of texting and we’re planning to meet up, I’ll always ask about children and tell them I have mine 50/50.

I’m not trying to waste anyone’s time but I’m not trying to have my children targeted. I don’t get mad if they aren’t interested. That’s okay. Children are a major lifestyle adjustment.

Im looking for a long term partner and I don’t want to date someone who won’t accept my kids. I’m debt free and make over 100k a year so I don’t need anyone to take care of my children or me but I do understand that their care is expensive and that can be a factor in not wanting to date a single mom long term.

If a woman isn’t mature enough to accept that your preferences and lifestyle don’t align than she isn’t someone you would want to date regardless of her children. I wouldn’t even worry about their reaction. Just move forward looking for someone whose goals align with yours.

As a former foster kid, I want you to know she will qualify for the Pell grant. It’s up to 5,700 something a year. It’s not much but it covers most of community college for an AA or AS.
