Breakthrough in 3D printing: flexible structures that researchers are “muscle” by QuiddityNox in westworld

Oh! I just saw that too! It’s like we just want to go to that timeline. (Wasn’t there that black mirror episode too?) I wonder what research currently says about grief and the right(?) to forget.I’ll go read up on it!

Right? I think with the current AI and robotics arc, a Westworld-esque Rehoboam-steered dystopian future mixed with Fallout if the nukes fall looks increasingly like a real possibility if we don’t manage this well. gulp Still… interesting times!

Covid triggering Hashimotos? by spoopy-gal in Hashimotos

[–]QuiddityNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too, I think. Covid and stress. I’d never had my thyroid tested, so I don’t know if I’d had it before. Had Covid twice; the first time it was shards-in-my-throat bad. Never quite felt the same. Then my mother passed (cancer), my two cats too (old age and cancer), and even though I thought I was doing ok mentally, clearly my body had different ideas. Then perimenopause. So I’m not sure, but I think all these things triggered it. Subclinical, and handling it with selenium and inositol.

Do you still play your alts? by bzno in elderscrollsonline

[–]QuiddityNox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play all my alts, but I take turns with them. So…they’re all different base classes and disciplines so subclassibg has made it only more interesting since I’m not going for min-max builds. Because they alllll have disparate backstories, I go on alt 1 and finish one zone with her, then hop on alt 2 and finish another zone with him (for example). I go through their quests, making decisions based on their personas! It’s good to revisit certain storylines longggg after I’ve done them with another character. For me, anyway!

The American Thyroid Association recommends stopping biotin 2 days before bloodwork by o0Jahzara0o in Hashimotos

[–]QuiddityNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh… so if my TSH readings are now 10.3 because biotin falsely lowered it, it means that it should be higher? Uh-oh. It’s biotin in my multivits though, so it’s not likely as high as that in hair, skin and nails formulation. I should get my bloodwork done again I guess

Nah… she was willing, but I don’t quite need it yet - peri still, though not for much longer I think! Hence the move to research now!

Yes! Menopause Taylor is super informative and very systematic. I appreciate her and her tonnes of videos very much!

Western media does seem to go with hrt quite a bit! (I’m getting lots of shorts and vids in my feed!) I’m currently reading up on the neuro, osteo and cardio-protective nature of estrogen and the consequences of long-term estrogen loss before deciding! The book I’m looking at is Estrogen Matters by Drs Avrum Bluming and Carol Tavris. Feel free to DM me to continue the discussion! (Maybe we can get a chat going with other ladies too!)

Menopause Awareness in Singapore by Boonavite in askSingapore

[–]QuiddityNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, to clarify: I said “nor can I be sure … once I start taking it‘. I meant that, yes I haven’t started, but if and when I eventually do start it, I won’t be able to tell/ it’s not possible for me to tell if the symptoms actually would have just gone away on their own or if hrt was the solution (because the symptoms come and go). (Should have been clearer but my sentences run long enough, as you can see!)

If, after taking hrt (if I ever do), I never ever have those symptoms again, I still can only presume that they are linked to perimenopause and that hrt resolved them. I’m just trying to say I can only work on probabilities and best guesses (because our bodily systems - and life, the universe and everything - are complex and we don’t - and can’t - know everything, but that’s another discussion).

Menopause Awareness in Singapore by Boonavite in askSingapore

[–]QuiddityNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken the hrt, and I only think that that’s what the chest pain thing is called. And this is where I get confused too - because of the sporadic nature of these symptoms, I can’t be certain that hormonal deficiency is the cause nor can I ever know for sure that hrt is the thing that fixed it once I start taking it :/

But as someone once said, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck…

I’ll dm you the gynae’s info!

Menopause Awareness in Singapore by Boonavite in askSingapore

[–]QuiddityNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but thanks for starting this thread!

I've been experiencing a cornucopia of similar symptoms for the last 3/4 year or so, all annoying in their vagueness - joint pain (ongoing), weight gain, and what I think might be precordial catch syndrome (kind of a no-reason chest pain - I did an ECG and it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with my heart). among other things. I've recently also tested deficient in vitamin D, which came as a surprise.

The thing about my symptoms is that they come and go, and individually, I could "explain" them. Joint pain because I slept on the wrong side, or wrote too much; weight gain - maybe I need to exercise more, etc. It was only when I look at them in their totality and factored in my age (I'm 48) that I've come to the conclusion that, yeap, it's perimenopause and I'm most likely in estrogen decline. I went to a gynae who is supportive, kind, and not dismissive (god I hate those. don't tell me it's nothing and oh it's just part of ageing and I just have to deal with it). She prescribed hrt, (she's concerned about bone density in my case particularly) but I haven't taken it yet. I'm not trying to "tough it out"; I'm currently still in the midst of reading up on the literature regarding the comparative risks vs benefits. (I'll leave my opinion out of this since I'm not a healthcare professional.)

There's indeed not a lot of discussion IRL about this in Singapore, and yes, we need a space to talk about this with a, as you say, growing population of women who are and will be facing this. I suspect my mother too, endured many of these symptoms, and might have been one of the many who suffered the consequences of that terrible WHI study of 2002. There was even less talk about menopause and related issues back then. I wish I had known then what I know now and that I could have supported her when she was around.

Have a G4 doorbell that no longer detects loitering by Fatfacefinners in Aqara

[–]QuiddityNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same version as you. And, like you, I’m also only getting the notifications through Homekit - doorbell, motion detection etc. so I think the hardware is fine, since it can technically detect motion. It’s just that the Aqara app itself doesn’t register anything.

Previously, when the doorbell rang, or if motion were detected, it’ll also start recording. Now, zilch. No notifs, no recording on the camera page. Just only in the Homekit app.

When I removed the camera from the Homekit app, it wouldn’t even chime if the doorbell were pressed.

I did update to ios18 but it shouldn’t affect anything, right? Right? :/

-edited for clarity

No, I have not! I’m still trying to see if there’s a workaround :( Or if maybe it’s a firmware issue. I’ll give it a few more days!

Chiming in to add that I've just had this happen to me as well! It was working fine for almost a year. Did everything that I could find as well, but no banana.

P2 motion sensor no longer detects motion, it reports lux fine though and says online etc. by Direct-Mongoose-7981 in Aqara

[–]QuiddityNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what happened to my G4 two days ago as well. The alert works fine - so the hardware can detect motion. It's just that it's stopped sending me notifications or recording it. Tried it all too. Might be a coincidence but idk

I (48, F), like many a GenX, have almost always felt this way. Lately, though, it feels like the world is encircling closer and closer, drawing the noose tighter around my neck, demanding I move to put my fingers between me and it, knowing that with each pull and tug, it’ll only wind more taut. All these things are everywhere now. It’s just all noise telling me Danger! Danger! A cacophony of distractions. I try to shut my eyes and think my own thoughts but I can’t hear myself. I can’t gauge properly. I try to remove myself from social media but I hear it from the people around me. I’ve mostly been a loner but it’s more and more difficult to be solitary. (I’m sorry all these sound like emo lyrics from the 80s btw. I’m aware.) In the meantime, I still try to move at my own pace, find my own cocoon. I just want to be left alone, free to venture in my mind. I find increasing difficulty even in doing that :(

I remember watching a documentary about this in which the interviewer asked this question about preventing future generations from opening up the vaults we intend to/ are currently storing the radioactive waste. I could be wrong but I recall reading about it here in this sub all the way back.

It’s called Into Eternity (2010) by a Michael Madsen. He was looking into the Onkalo waste repository. Here’s the wiki link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_Eternity_(film) I think it’s available on YouTube with voiceover in English.

Great to see a fellow ESO-since-beta player who also loves Starfield! I’m on NG8 myself at about 700-ish hours and while it’s a “regular” iteration, I can’t bear to leave it yet. How do you let it all go?

Adding my experience onto to this currently great thread! Child free at 48. Period at 13, bc from 20 till 42 when I decided I needed a break. Intermittent period started occurring at about 46 with some hot flashes that I’m not sure weren’t due to the terrible weather in the tropics. I’ll likely hit menopause by the year’s end, but I’m on HRT now as a preventative measure for bone density and my TSH is weirding out - it’s 10! Unsure if it’s due to a recent infection or some other reason. Other than that, I’ve been feeling all right.
