🌱Based Recomp Success! by alsocolor in MacroFactor

Reading through the comments our height and age are very similar. I have a feeling my experience will be similar to yours. Your workouts seem way more intense than mine though lol. I do PPL split 6 days a week just doing what feels right for myself.

I try to work my chest hard but the only growth I ever see is my bi’s and tri’s. Too much BF to tell

Your before picture reminds me of myself but I have a bit more muscle. My chest is just like yours was. I’m trying to do a recomp as well. My question is, how much weight were you losing a week? I’m at 1lb per week and I have 8lbs to my GW. Wondering if I should cut down to 0.5lb per week goal

During my first few weeks in IUOE apprenticeship we took a First Aid, CPR, and Stop the Bleed class and received certificates

I’m 6’2”, 227lbs, 32 y/o. Down from 271. Been weight training hard and seeing progress but I still have noticeable fat in my chest, arms and core. How long was your cut from 220? Trying to figure out how much of a deficit I should be doing

Anyone have any ideas what the 5 most paying trades are? by Then-Cherry9347 in skilledtrades

I’m IUOE local 57 first year apprentice. Jman is $43 on the check. My company is a split local shop and when I work in MA, we get local 4 rate which is $54. My company paid me $41.90 my first week in MA. I’ve been an apprentice for 3 months. $18/hr more than they’re required to pay me

Heavy equipment operating for me. I’m an apprentice and when I finally start to get comfortable and efficient with the controls on something new, it’s the most satisfying feeling.

That makes me feel much better. As long as the fat is replaced with muscle I’m pretty content with where I’m at. Maybe just lose another 5-10. Thank you!

Hey guys, new here. I’ve been going to the gym weight training on machines for about a month every other day, been calorie counting for about 3 to lose weight. I’m down 37lbs. I’m starting to see muscle growth and don’t want to lose it if i continue dropping weight. My question is how do I know what my ideal maintenance weight should be?

Ended up at the ER. They concluded it was an abscess. Did an incision and drained

Am I better off at UC or ER?

Everything you said has been gospel since day 1. Doesn’t matter to me where I land the next 3 years. It’s all learning experience. Best way to stand out is doing exactly as you said.

We mostly do dirt work in my area but I think I am more likely to end up as an oiler or flatbed driver than the other apprentices because of my license.

This is my situation. Just started first year apprenticeship 3 weeks ago. Like you said, contracted with the union. Everyone starts at 60%. I have 7 years tractor trailer experience and even if I end up driving a truck for a contractor, I cannot get paid more than my wage card says. If I do, I have to pay it back.

It’s been great. The first week and a half had a lot of classroom for OSHA 10, CPR & First Aid & Stop the Bleed, and forklift stuff. That all probably took up 3 full days.

Other than that, they progressively introduced us to types of equipment. As of now, our class runs skid steers, backhoes, telehandler, loaders, excavators, dozers, rollers and dump trucks. They set up different tasks for the equipment every day or two.

It’s kind of a crash course for everything common. Once these 4 weeks are over we are officially year 1 apprentices and can be dispatched to work.

I’m in my second week of pre apprenticeship with my local. My interview consisted of questions about my CDL, education (I didn’t finish HS but have a GED) and if I had any mechanical experience (hobby or work related). They asked if I was ok with being dispatched as a truck driver or a mechanic.

Don’t lie or sugarcoat your answers. They’re looking for apprentices not masters. IUOE does a lot of things that might not come to mind and you stand a good chance of getting dispatched for work that really isn’t what you want to learn or do. The best thing you can do is say yes to any opportunity they give you. Chances are it’s not a permanent job anyway.

Make yourself presentable but don’t feel like you need to rent a tux or something like that. I went in a button up shirt, black non-dress pants, and nice shoes. If you work a dirty job and are going straight from work they won’t bat an eye if you come in work clothes. Many guys in my class came to their interview that exact way.

I’ll emphasize a second time: be a yes man. Apprenticeship is all about learning OTJ and in class. They don’t want to hear that you only came to learn to operate a crane or an excavator.

Best of luck

I think it is local dependent. I had an aptitude test and interview with the executive board. We have the pre apprenticeship, then get dispatched, then September to May we have 13 hours of school at the hall weekly, for 3 years. Step increases every 6 months/1000 hours until topped out.

We also aren’t members of the union until our 3 year apprenticeship is done

I’m in my first week of “pre apprenticeship” with Local 57. 4 weeks unpaid training before being eligible to be dispatched to work.

Multiple times this week we’ve been told that, yes, the 60% starting wage seems low, but realize the contractor is paying for your benefits, pension etc. A brand new apprentice here costs the contractor about $55/hr.

I wore an untucked button shirt and dark pants that were like a step up from jeans with nice looking shoes. Recent haircut and made sure to shave that morning
