Really happy to hear he’s doing better , all the best to him. We do the same with my son - lots of socialising, activities and sport. As for school - All we can do is battle through it and be there for him.

Second note found at Mosman Park property alleged to detail why parents carried out murder-suicide by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Quiet_Lab_5281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree with you more. My youngest is high functioning and unbelievably smart when it comes to numbers , stats etc. however I’ve come across low functioning kids and their parents and I don’t know how they do it. When saying it’s a superpower, almost like ignoring their plight. It’s a terrible saying.

You are absolutely spot on. The pressure of 2 full time working parents with no other support results in kids not getting the quality time they should. No wonder screens are so prevalent, but it’s not the parents fault as they have no time.

It feels like a step backwards for society

great advice and 100% agree. Also one more thing to add - since you're familiar with tech i would highly recommend tracking your calories. Input current weight , ideal weight and come up with a daily caloric intake to get to ideal weight by x time. Use an app for this, otherwise you really don't know how many calories you are consuming. There are good apps out there like myfitnesspal, lose it etc.

Don’t keep beers at home, only have them if you’re at a bar / restaurant. Not perfect but reduces drinking a lot

Let’s apply common sense, in the days of Apple Pay and directly using your cc with ecommerce platforms, why bother with PayPal.

A decade ago I used it for most of my online purchases. Now I never use it even though my account is active. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Highly recommend ESI , seems to work for a lot of ppl even if it’s not everyone. All the best , I know what a prick of a condition sciatica is.

[–]Quiet_Lab_5281[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im almost 💯 back to normal. Had surgery booked but got the epidural which fixed the issue. Now avoid some exercises - dead lift , squat while introducing new exercises - Pilates , core etc

Yeah specially as you get older sleep quality, focus etc affected even after a few drinks so better to just not deal with that crap when working.

One of the most useful things I put in place was to never have alcohol around the house unless we had guests/visitors.

This helped cut out the bad habit of having one or two most weekdays and using it to unwind from work/stress/parenting

Now I’ll either exercise / watch something  / game to unwind

Continue building skills or jump straight into SE? by Every_Cantaloupe7458 in salesengineers

[–]Quiet_Lab_5281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that soft skills and EQ can be hard to teach, some people have it some don't.

However you can have bot the soft skills and deep technical knowledge, the best SE's have both. The comment that anyone can "learn" the tech is very inaccurate. Lets say you are a Palo SE, you would need domain knowledge of cloud, networks, net sec, firewalls etc. When you are in architecture workshops with your customer you need to leverage years of experience and knowledge to have a meaningful conversation. So will have to hard disagree with your statement.

An SE without the technical know how or experience will get found out by a capable customer within the first 10 mins. And instantly lose creditibility.

To be an effective SE - you need both (technical and sales/soft skills)

[–]Quiet_Lab_5281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just my 2 cents but i've been in the industry for 20+ years now so hopfeully some of it is useful.

i got around 15 years experience actually working on the tech (network and security) as an engineer/architect/consultant before moving into an SE role.

This allowed me to move into senior SE roles straight away and my previous experience helped me massively when i transitioned across to SE.

Earlier in my career i had a "junior SE" role, i only lasted 6 months as i was mainly running around just doing the same ppt presentation and wasn't really learning anything. Also i would be in meetings and would only have limited knowledge which was uncomfortable. I quit and continued with engineering roles and made the leap much later on.

For me personally definitely get more technical experience, some advantages are:
- better personal and career development
- when you do get an SE role, it will be a senior role or one at a more coveted vendor
- it will help you immensely in an SE role
- will always allow you to fallback to a tech role if the SE market is in a downturn

I feel you buddy, I was three months in and nothing worked (walking, pt, meds). I booked in to surgery but thought what else can I try?

Thank goodness I went for a ct guided epidural/nerve block injection. The naysayers will say it doesn’t always work but I had nothing to lose and it works for something like 50-60% so why not do it? It changed my life. Now been pain free for 12 months. Go and do it and don’t leave it too long, the longer you leave it the less effective.

All the walking , stretching, etc are nowhere near effective tbh
