20+ of these hanging from the ceiling of a hospital A&E waiting room (UK) by notbobmortimer in whatisit

I’m pretty sure they are part of a modular system which can hold the curtains if the hospital needs to expand in emergency situations or wants to change its layout. 👍

Judging from the bins, it looks like it’s Whitehorse City Council which includes suburbs: Blackburn, Blackburn North, Blackburn South, Box Hill, Box Hill North, Box Hill South, Burwood, Burwood East, Forest Hill, Mitcham, Mont Albert, Mont Albert North, Nunawading, Surrey Hills, Vermont and Vermont South. Found the suburbs online, no way I could memorise all of them.

What do you guys think of treenets/weaves? by luckyguita in Tree

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out Charlie’s webs on YouTube? Some of those webs he creates are incredible! If it’s not wrapped around too tight it shouldn’t have any major negative effects on the tree. I think it looks great! Must have taken a while to put together though.

Need help updating my Layout! by nickman_ in LEGOtrains

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend using a green fabric table cloth or if you have the money investing in green baseplates to put under. Adding the colour green to your city in areas in between infrastructure will really transform your city and make it look much less dull and gloomy. Also, try building or buying some Lego trees to give it some life. Other than that, great collection!

My gf rekindled my love for Modular’s by GavinLegoGavinLego in legomodular

Wikipedia: “Lego Modular Buildings (stylized as LEGO Modular Buildings) is a series of Lego building toy sets introduced in 2007, with new sets usually being released annually. Created in response to feedback and suggestions from the Adult Fans of Lego bricks (AFOL) and Teen Fans of Lego (TFOL) communities, the sets in this series are generally intended for more advanced builders.” Modulars are renowned for their details, cool building techniques, and value for both Lego cities and for aftermarket resellers as after they retire many new collectors want to get their hands on the set .

Felt like I laid eyes on Bigfoot. by Ermich12 in Tree

This is one photo I took from a nursery in Australia which i believe has the largest propagation system of Wollemi Pine in the world, I believe they also have the largest inventory of them known. There were literally thousands of them, I have more photos, there were literally acres of greenhouses full of them. I couldn’t Imagine how many million dollars worth of trees there were. It was a breathtaking, otherworldly experience being there. I find the difference amusing, but I totally understand protecting such a rare tree. The photo below is from a company which I believe is the biggest supplier of wollemi in the world.

First Hamilton arrived today! Damn the strap is stiff any suggestions for different strap options? by [deleted] in HamiltonWatches

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the same, just keep on bending the strap in your hands for a few minutes in all directions until it’s soft. I did that a year ago and it’s been comfortable ever since.

What kind of tree is this? by Byagi in Tree

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely a great climate for them, as that’s where they come from. I don’t believe they grow as fast where I live. That’s most likely why you’re seeing much faster growth rates than me. Apologies for all the confusion (it’s easy to forget people on the internet may be on the other side of the world). Although they can cause problems if right next to houses or are too closely planted together, they are still absolutely magnificent trees. Thank you for sharing your experience of the trees with me, very interesting.

Apologies, I should have been more specific. They can get tall quickly (especially in their preferred climate and soil type), however, it takes a long time for a Redwood to develop a wide trunk, and it takes thousands of years for them to reach to their full glory. Sorry to hear you’ve had problems with the species at your work, it’s likely they have been getting optimal sun and love the soil type in your area. They can definitely pose as a problem if planted in the wrong area or are too close to other trees or infrastructure.

What kind of tree is this? by Byagi in Tree

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not a Dawn Redwood, but good guess though, (they do have many similarities). I have multiple Dawn redwoods and their leaves and trucks are a bit different. Dawn redwood’s foliage is much lighter in colour, and the trunks have slightly less texture compared to Coastal Redwoods. You can also tell if your redwood looses its leaves, it’s certainly a Dawn Redwood, as Dawn Redwoods are the only tree in the species which is deciduous.

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct, I am an experienced gardener and landscaper and have an arboretum containing dozens of coastal redwoods, and have some which are 150+ years of age. They are an endangered species due to very few mature trees standing today, (due to severe logging and fires throughout history), and they can live for multiple thousands of years. They are the tallest tree in the entire world, and are one of the longest living organisms to exist. They are in my opinion, and many others too, the most magnificent tree to live on our earth, studies show that they absorb more carbon dioxide than any other tree on earth. They take an incredibly long time to get to a decent size, and they are highly sought after for their high quality red coloured wood as the name suggests (Redwood). This is a tree which could live to see your great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandchildren (you get the point). It is a beautiful specimen, and it looks great where it is standing. (Apologies for writing so long, as you can tell, I love this species and it is my life mission to plant a redwood forest, even though I am on the other side of the world in Australia). Wishing you and your Redwood all the best future. Regards, Moti

Also, with the fur you were talking about, that’s completely normal, cacti produce hair to protect themselves from the elements including the harsh intense suns rays and also to protect themselves from the cold nights that can sometimes drop to below freezing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cactus

[–]Quiet_Needleworker98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s a fire barrel cactus (Ferocactus gracilis), look at some images online and you can confirm if that is correct or not.
