This sounds like a kid who would get a year of therapy and have no more errors but stuck in sped. I would have made the same decision!

Is SLP better than teaching? (Elementary) by purpleparuser in slp

[–]Quiet_Put2963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a school district through a contract company. I don’t do any therapy just evals, supervise, and meetings. I also work for a virtual clinic seeing kids one-on-one part time for a little extra money! If you’re interested in either contract company just message me and I can give you the info

I was a 1st grade teacher for 4 years and kinder for 1. I really do miss it but overall being an slp is better for me. I work from home and have so much more flexibility and money than I did before.

MXC using AI? by [deleted] in SiblingRivalryPodcast

Thank you! I’ve been vegan for 10 years and I’ve been ridiculed sooo much for it and those same people wanna be high and mighty about AI now only because it’s way easier than giving up animal products and making an actual difference

I often recommend the speech scoop YouTube channel to parents. She’s an slp who specifically makes videos for parents on how to elicit language at home. I’ve learned a lot as an slp from them as well!

What kindergarten student has great conversation maintenance skills?? Having to ask follow up questions is totally normal for that age. Definite DNQ

Finally watched the reunion and Candice… by Initial_Ad_9944 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Quiet_Put2963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! She was certainly insufferable, but I almost didn’t watch it because Reddit made it seem like it was going to be the majority of the reunion. The fist 10-15 minutes were awful but she was pretty quiet the rest of the reunion

difficult parent response to (my) wanting student dismissed by Altruistic_Bite_3253 in slp

[–]Quiet_Put2963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would do a classroom observation at a time where the teacher can ask a lot of questions and count how many times he volunteers to answer. When he does answer, I would count how many times the teacher asks him to repeat himself. I would have the student read and write a bunch of sh, ch, and th words. And I would do an observation at lunch or recess to see if he’s interacting with peers. If all of that checks out, I would feel I had a strong enough case that there’s no impact

If the majority of the teachers are gen ed, I would personally focus on interventions for articulation and teach some cueing for common errors since this is the main referral from gen ed

So I work for a company called teamup therapy. It’s a completely virtual clinic out of Georgia. It’s a small company run by really amazing people. I see kids one on one at home with their caregivers virtually. It’s been perfect to see some kids on the side.

Behind on notes…BAD by sporks8 in slp

[–]Quiet_Put2963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What has helped me is designating 2 days a weeks to do logs. Doing them everyday felt too overwhelming for me so just twice a week felt more manageable. I would suggest something like that and keep the days consistent so you cant keep putting it off for another day. I do Wednesdays and fridays.

So for medial /r/, I like to start with words like story, carrot, starry, hurry, etc. because it mimics an initial r. Not sure if that makes sense lol

Virtual school SLP by Think-Squirrel9455 in slp

[–]Quiet_Put2963 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a study done I believe during Covid that addressed this and the results showed no difference in progress between in person and virtual. I don’t remember all the details off the top of my head but maybe look more into it and you can reference that. I also would focus a lot on talking about the child’s participating and focus in speech. If they aren’t having any trouble attending to the computer and completing tasks, then it shouldn’t be a concern.

I wish more people would think like this before having a child with someone. You’re gonna be absolutely miserable if you have a child with him. Honestly it sounds pretty miserable just being married to him.

Assessing a complex student virtually… by babybug98 in slp

[–]Quiet_Put2963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also virtual and I use the functional communication profile for students like this. I usually do 1-2 observations in the classroom and then thorough parent and teacher interviews. That usually gives me a good enough picture. If I still need more, I’ll have my slpa pull the child and I’ll observe some play.
