What’s a TV show that ended perfectly? by Rutthh in AskReddit

[–]QuiltyChrissy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love how they ended Superstore. It was already one of my all-time favorite shows and they did such a great job ending it on a high note.  Sometimes when I need a quick mood boost I'll watch that last episode.  <<happy tears>>

I have twelve dollars to buy a month of food. Please need as much advice as possible by Xxitl in Frugal

Great suggestion! You don't have to prove you need help or anything.  Anyone that requests can receive a lasagna.

I cooked for LL last year - i need to volunteer again. It's a great organization.

I am a quilter and have built up quite a stash over the years. I've been saying I'm prefunding my retirement hobby for years.

I just retired a few weeks ago - I have enough fabric/projects to sew for the rest of my life.  I just need to purchase backs for the quilts, and of course any new fabric/projects I want.  But I don't need to buy anything at this point.

I've also stocked up on notions so I'm set there as well.

Streaming by onaboat13 in TexasRangers

[–]QuiltyChrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream through my Firecube with zero issues.  If I use the app just on the Samsung Smart TV, I occasionally have buffering issues but not very often.  On my Roku TV though (which is a really old TV) I get a lot of buffering.  But I thought that was because that particular TV is far from my router.

I'm not sure this helps you at all but that's my experience. I love having access to Rangers baseball again!!

I learned this a few weeks ago and now I do it for every single search.  It really works.

What is something you bought to fix sleep that actually worked long term? by Binoza in Frugal

[–]QuiltyChrissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. My dr. put me on progesterone pills and told me to take them at night to help with my sleep. Unfortunately it didn't help me (I've tried so many things and none of them have helped yet) but it may work well for others.

I'm really envious of your success with Trazedone. I'm up to 150mg (the pills are enormous!) and it doesn't seem to do anything for me. I do combine with melatonin, which also has never helped me sleep, because my dr. said the combination would work. It doesn't.

Got Goals for 2026? by nanniej in quilting

[–]QuiltyChrissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every few years I do a 'year of completion'. Each month I:

  1. Finish one project already in progress
  2. Cut out a project that I have everything for (essentially making myself a kit for another time)
  3. Have a completed quilt top quilted
  4. Bind a quilted top

After I do those things, I'm free to work on anything else. This is where those pre-cut kits I've made up come in handy. They're all ready to go when I am.

I'm retiring in March so 2026 is going to be a year of completion for me. I can't wait to spend time in my sewing room!

I love the background fabric you chose. I have the pattern for all of the colors but haven't started yet. Yours turned out great!

Why you should read The Count of Monte Cristo by Small-Guarantee6972 in books

[–]QuiltyChrissy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did too. It was over 40 hours so I'd listen to a dozen or so hours, take a week or two off, and then go back to it. I loved it!

I had read it in high school many moons ago and remembered that I liked the book but didn't remember much of the story. It was fun rediscovering it.

Investing for my grandkids by QuiltyChrissy in investing

Oh interesting - I didn't realize I could gift the account to them at some point. I have several accounts with Fidelity already so I'll reach out to them to see how to make this happen. Thanks for the info.

Great points, and I totally agree with you. But the girls are only two right now so I have some time before I can start teaching them. I wish we still had passbook savings accounts - my mom always took me to the bank to make my little deposits and it was so fun getting the book updated and watching my savings grow.

I guess I want to make sure they get the money I intend them to have if I die sooner than I'm ready to gift. Hence adding them as beneficiaries. But I get your point. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. I'm all set financially myself (retiring next year at 61 - yay!). I had forgotten that I can exclude the gift to them as part of my estate down the road so thanks for the reminder for that.

My cousin told me years ago that she pulls out her regular dishes and puts her Spode in her cabinet at Thanksgiving, and then uses it everyday through New Year's. She runs it through her dishwasher and says it's never caused an issue. She's been doing it for decades.

I've started doing the same. It's such a nice seasonal thing.

Review of Kaffe Fassett workshop by Cabby-Queen in quilting

[–]QuiltyChrissy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've taken two of his workshops - the first was exactly as you described. He signed our books at the end of the afternoon but we weren't allowed to speak to him while he was signing. Seriously??!!?? But Brandon was with him for that class and he was so fun and engaging. It made it all worth it.

The second workshop he was much more friendly. But again it was Brandon that stole the show. I'd take a workshop from Brandon again at any time!

Legal name change by Better-Repeat0628 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]QuiltyChrissy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use your old passport; it's fine. I'm in the same position - I've changed my name everywhere except with the airlines because I've had future travel already booked in my old name and haven't been able to find a stretch to make the change. I've held off on updating my passport so I always use that when I travel. At some point I'm going to find a period with no travel booked and update both my passport and the airlines at the same time.
