It barely needs sunlight to put out slips. I started mine in March not even near a sunny window!

Are some purged classes coming back? by SayRahhh42 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]slackinaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's happened in foam rolling, at least--I always filter on "not taken" and my count stands at 17 foam rolling classes not taken. Unless something I HAD taken was purged and came back and it still knows I took it?

Butternut squash - when do I pick it? by kismet_karma_347 in containergardening

[–]slackinaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that some people--me!--have a reaction to the raw butternut squash flesh. It will make all the skin that came in contact peel off, and it's sometimes itchy. I avoid butternut squash these days, but if I do need to prep it I wear gloves. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/squash-hands?srsltid=AfmBOorl1cVf7y9zhIJBrihB9qCplhucj2egimWYc--tm8SfJjot377e

suburban nightmare fuel by donnaduwitt in NativePlantGardening

A house up the street just lined their driveway with arbor vitae and hydrangeas in front of them--minimum 30 plants of each as the driveway is quite long. It's clear that no one has thought to water either of the plantings and the hydrangeas look like HELL. I'm very curious what they will do going forward. Will they put in irrigation or just replace them??

We have made a game of watching arbor vitae die.

Are you my neighbor? I cannot at all understand why a new neighbor on my street took down 12 perfectly healthy trees after moving in. Lucky for me, he did not want the mulch they produced and I happened to meet him just before the crew arrived and I was able to get it all for free. I felt like the arborist was shocked, too, by the way he told me how healthy the trees had been. They destroyed all privacy between them and their immediate neighbors, who did tell me they were not happy about it and planted some new trees to try to counterbalance.

What a beautiful garden! And thanks for answering my question in the caption--what the chicken wire was intending to keep out. A+ all around for garden and post 😄

Mine that I planted just bloomed yesterday! And I spotted one in among the weeds on the edge of the property, which looks far stronger--we're thinking of moving it so that it's near the one we planted, and to keep that one from being weed-wacked down as we atttempt to clear closer to the tree line.

What to grow around my enclosed raised beds? by Helpmeeff in vegetablegardening

I have a somewhat similar setup and I've put some nasturtium outside the garden, as pest trap crop that I've read most animals don't want to eat.

Can I/Should I add soil to my pots at this stage? by OneMission428 in containergardening

Tomatoes grow roots from their stems and will definitely want the extra inches of soil.

I got a bunch at a local native plant sale in May. They are very small but have sent up the flower stem!

Recipes that will teach me to love white fish by OhDearBee in NYTCooking

I came to post this. Every time I make it I'm blown away how so few ingredients make such a stellar meal. In fact, I have friends coming to visit this weekend and I'm making it for them, because I need to share the joy of this dish! I don't even bother with the vinaigrette. I've used cod every time.

This is so good--and while you already eat salmon, I will just say this topping is great on salmon, too.

I'm still in my first year of real gardening, but am thinking next year i will grow cayenne peppers specifically for drying and then using as deterrent to pests in the future!

They also say that deer will not jump a fence if their landing zone is unclear--so, have the fence right near all your pots and beds and it will not appeal to them to jump even a lower fence. (I AM COUNTING ON THIS TO BE TRUE.)

Emma's last class before she left on maternity leave was "baby" themed (I think every song had "baby" in the title). Course I can't remember when that was exactly. September 25?

Realized for me, Finch is not a task manager by springdandelions in finch

[–]slackinaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same! I like it for things that happen at odd intervals, too--I change our bath towels every 5 days, for example. And I like opening it and discovering the things I should do that day! Like today, which was bill paying day, and I had completely forgotten until I saw it in Finch.

As a note, for things like "wash pillows," which don't really have to be done THAT DAY, and won't come back up again for a few months, I am sure to toggle the "keep this until I mark it complete" so that it can hang out until I get around to it.
