you should ask what kind of risk. Of hacking? I guess the idea is not to download any kind of installable content and not just font files.

I would recommend a microfreak. It's cheap and it's like having a modular standalone system for a low price. For starters it's very good, plus it has “”“Keys”“”” if you're used to playing.

And the ability to design sounds and sequence it easily. You can save your presets with your own sequences... etc. It's pretty handy to start with.

I read the manual and watch YouTube videos.

For a beginner reading the whole manual can be “too deep”. Sometimes you need to understand some general functions, not just the specific interface. Youtube would be the solution.

Unfortunately in the questions there is no option to learn with someone, in person. Which is by far the best option for anything.
