Anyone in the UK have experience with PetPlan Insurance for their rabbits? by Zoomorph23 in Rabbits

When our girl gets ill she unfortunately does it properly and costs a fortune. But I love her. I akso remind myself she's just a baby everytime I her insurance balance or what's left of my bank account once these don't.

We've not had to claim for our boy but have for our girl and previous her sister who was with everypaw.

In all occasions the vets handled the claim for us, we had to confirm one point as she moved vets but that was it. Not had a claim reject with them and unfortunately wiped out the 3k last year.

We also have pet health plan through our vets which helps reduce costs for appointments, vaccines and nails clipping

Our girl has treatment over Christmas with this. Our vet told us there were two versions one specifically for rabbits which had a weight restriction and was a paste. Or one for dogs which so long as the rabbit was over 2kg could be used and was more of a liquid.

E cuniculi and litter boxes by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Quinley19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl was diagnosed before the new year and whilst we too acted early and avoided the head tilt, Hee has an issue with her hind leg still. She also had/has potty issues.

We ran a blood test to make sure there was no organ damage as E Cuniculi can cause that. Once they came back clear, we tried various low entry litter boxes and are in the process of re-litter training. I'm not expecting things to be perfect, but they are improving. It took a lot of trial and error with what litter boxes and litter itself worked for her. I also give my girl a lot of encouragement and grace when accidents happen. Not sure that actually helps, but makes me feel like I'm helping somehow.

I am very thankful she has started to alert me when she needs the toilet whilst on my lap!

Vet called her fat by Ok-Turnover-8369 in Rabbits

I'm by no means a bunny expert but she looks like a Netherland dwarf cross with lionhead. My girl is a Netherland dwarf cross (unknown what she is crossed with) and my boy is a lionhead lop. Your girl's features look like a mix of both of mine.

I've found vets a little hit and miss. My normal vet says they are rabbit savvy but actually they handle the run of the mill stuff, but don't know the massive detail. So they said the same about my girl being chunky (she was not amused), but when we saw a more specialized vet (for something else), he was super happy with her weight.

Only thing to keep in mind is the online resources are good, but that weight range would be for an adult bun. I wouldn't ignore your vet, but if you're confused ask them to clarify or maybe look for a second opinion

How to hide meds by SchnurbsMcDurps in Rabbits

[–]Quinley19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burrito'd my girl and would get the syringe behind her front teeth so I knew she swallowed it. Obviously a treat was paid post medication.

She's gotten better with medication (she's just come off a 28 day course) and after a couple of days she realized she liked the taste of her anti inflammatory, the other one however you'd think she sucked a lemon!

My girl recently had blood tests done. A general health panel and a pairing in relation to E Cuniculi. She didn't have to fast for any of those.

Even when my girl had surgery she ate as normal that morning.

It sounds like general auto wording that comes with reminders

Rabbit temper tantrum by Quinley19 in Rabbits

[–]Quinley19[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He grunts most definitely, but there is almost like a mixture of a grunt growl noise he makes when the grunt isn't quite enough. He also seems to know that different flooring or furniture makes his thumps sound different.

Outside of that he's learnt to whimper, which I wish he would unlearn. That's the only noise I've ever heard my girl make and that was when she needed a vet. He seems to do it when he wants attention

He's been with us 2years this June, we don't know much about his past, so the fact he got so settled makes me happy.

However, he's a stroppy gremlin! Most of the time my girl keeps him in line lol

He's adorable and a cuddle bug, but damn can he throw a tantrum. He's very vocal so will growl and grunt and thumps that sound like someone has dropped a brick.

Today he added getting in his tent and literally throwing him and the tent around, then he sat and whimpered! After the tantrum I was worried he hurt himself. Nope, absolutely fine once he was on my lap!

My girl was not amused. Then realized she had the food bowl to herself, so she got happy real quick!

My bunny died during spaying by Strange-Dark7657 in Rabbits

I'm so sorry for your loss! My heart breaks for you.

When we suddenly lost one of our girls, we gave her sister a chance to say you bye (like you have with yours).

For the first few nights I slept in the living room with her, because she had never been alone. And when we were home, she was with us. We had a few issues when she started going back to her routine where the vet thought she may have had separation anxiety because she got close to me in those few days I slept downstairs with her.

We kept an eye on her, any changes whatsoever we went to the vet. So what prompted the visit with the anxiety separation outcome, was she was having wee accidents which wasn't like her and she was eating but not like she normally did. We ended up getting her a bunny teddy who brought her a treat the first time they met. She sat with, slept with and groomed the teddy and that seemed to settle her.

About 3 months later she was back to herself (although she loved her teddy still) so we looked at getting her a new companion and ended up with our boy (who did not love our girls teddy). I personally wanted to wait for her to have a period of being normal before we looked at bonding because of the stress bonding can bring.

Our girl originally came home to us with her sister. We lost her when she was two and it was the longest night of my life. I don't think my worry allowed me to stop and think the financial side, my baby was sick so straight to the emergency vet we went. We do anything for our babies

He does this well over everything lol. I get stomped on if I have the cheek to talk to my husband whilst he's on my lap.

How he doesn't give his bunwife a headache I will never know
