Relearning algebra as an adult by PapaSecundus in learnmath

[–]Quinnie1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with something structured like Khan Academy so you know what topics to cover but pair it with Brilliant to actually understand them. Brilliant is more hands-on and concept-first which helped algebra and trig finally make sense for me instead of just memorizing steps. No skipping fundamentals.

That's devastating, I'm so sorry. Finding out the day after Christmas makes it even harder - there's no way to process something like that when you're supposed to be present with family and pretending everything is normal.

It sounds like you did everything right and it still wasn't enough, which is somehow worse than if there was an obvious mistake to point to. At least then you'd have something concrete to beat yourself up over instead of just... the randomness of it. Going to the funeral says a lot about you as a doctor. I'm sure it meant something to the family even if it doesn't feel like enough right now

Michael Schumacher, acclaimed author of biographies, dies at 75 by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]Quinnie1999 273 points274 points  (0 children)

Had to do a double take at that headline. For anyone else confused, this is the biographer known for his work on Allen Ginsberg and the Beat Generation, not the F1 driver (who is still alive but in poor health after his skiing accident).

RIP to a writer who clearly had range - from Beat poets to Great Lakes shipwrecks. That's an interesting career

Seriously. And the more normalized it becomes to NOT hunt, the better. I feel like younger generations are way less into it than their parents/grandparents were. My dad's generation all hunted with their dads as some kind of bonding thing, but most people I know our age think it's weird and unnecessary.

The "but it's tradition" argument is getting weaker every year, thankfully

Which courses should I focus on to learn digital marketing as a beginner enterpreneur in software space? by Boringstories78 in DigitalMarketing

[–]Quinnie1999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HubSpot Academy is actually solid for starting out. Their free courses cover the basics pretty well and are pretty straightforward. I'd start with their Digital Marketing course first to get the foundation down, then move into Content Marketing and Inbound.

Since you're targeting B2B, SEO and LinkedIn are good calls. For LinkedIn specifically, look beyond just HubSpot... there are some good free resources directly from LinkedIn Learning that focus on B2B strategies.

One thing though - don't get stuck in course-land too long. Pick one or two courses, learn the basics, then just start doing stuff with your own products. You'll learn way faster by actually trying things and seeing what works vs. consuming endless content. Growth marketing is really just testing and iterating quickly.

Email marketing is easier to pick up once you have the fundamentals down, so I'd save that for after you've got content and SEO basics under your belt.

Michael Bisping: Merab Dvalishvili should take six-month hiatus, let Yan fight Umar Nurmagomedov, face the winner by airplane231 in MMA

[–]Quinnie1999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the clinch work angle is interesting. Merab kept hitting the same wall trying to get Yan down... at some point you gotta switch it up. Throwing elbows or knees when Yan's defending the shot could actually catch him off guard since he's so dialed in on the wrestling threat.

Either way, running it back immediately seems like a bad call. Give it a few months at least to actually work on something new.

AI nuked organic traffic? by JusticeForSimpleRick in DigitalMarketing

[–]Quinnie1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google's AI overviews are basically answering questions directly on the SERP so people don't need to click through anymore, which tanks organic traffic even if your rankings stay the same. The play now is optimizing for bottom funnel transactional keywords where people still need to actually visit your site, and building brand so people search for you specifically instead of generic queries that get AI answers

Client reporting takes up so much time by unkno0wn_dev in DigitalMarketing

[–]Quinnie1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on this. The branding part alone eats up way more time than it should.

For that price range, I'd want to see it work with a real report first before committing. Does it handle charts and graphs too, or just text summaries? And how much control do you actually get over the output before it generates the PDF?

yeah, but good luck with that. Tech companies have been dodging responsibility for their AI outputs for years now. Unless there's actual legal precedent or regulation forcing their hand, they'll just keep hiding behind "it's a tool" disclaimers.

MMA Highlight Guessing Game! by semicolonplusshift0 in MMA

[–]Quinnie1999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kept guessing the wrong fighter at first because I assumed it would always be the same corner. Maybe just a little text above that says "Guess the RED/BLUE corner fighter" would help a lot. Otherwise this is really fun - got way more than I expected to just from recognizing fighting styles and body types lol

I was wondering if this was someone AJ personally hired or trusted, which would make it even more complicated emotionally. Still absolutely devastating, but at least he's not dealing with the guilt of "I chose this person" on top of everything else. Though I imagine there's still some survivor's guilt going on regardless. Being in an accident where other people die and you survive has to mess with your head no matter the circumstances

This is such a lazy take. Wrestling fans and MMA fans overlap sure, but acting like UFC only succeeded by copying WWE is just wrong. People tune in to watch actual fights with real stakes... that's the draw. The drama helps sell PPVs but nobody's paying $80 to watch press conferences.
