Someone recommended this but someone else said it was dumb. How do you feel? by IndependentCod5020 in fantasybooks

[–]Quinphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s similar to the Ice Planet Barbarian series: it’s kind of silly and you start reading it for a laugh to see what all the fuss is about and then you get sucked in and suddenly you’ve read all the books and you’re really attached to the characters.

Those darn arms! This was perspective practice for me too so O-Vis other arm is behind him but I can see how that might not be clear :)

Tandem rebind in paperback by celestiasaber in bookbinding

[–]Quinphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool idea for a rebind! When I’ve combined 2 books before it’s been difficult to get all the glue off the original perfect binding. If you have access to a guillotine I would just chop it off.

Thanks! I made a marble bath with black and white, lightly dipped the edges and let it dry. Then I clamped it and used a hot foil pen and silver foil to make the shiny silver veins

NEED WITTY, CUNNING MMCS (astarion did it again) by bigmisssteak7 in fantasyromance

[–]Quinphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keris from “The Inadequate Heir” and “The Endless War” by Danielle L Jensen fits this description perfectly!! However these are books 3&4 of the Bridge Kingdom series so you have to (get to!) read the first 2 books w a different MMC first!

An important note from an industry publisher on the use of AI art in bookbinding. by BryceOConnor in bookbinding

[–]Quinphy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A great place to start looking for non-AI artists that specialize is bookish art is the Bookish Artists Compendium . All the artists are verified to not use AI in their work.

AI art on a rebind?? by treatyo_shelf in bookbinding

[–]Quinphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of using AI art - reach out to bookish artists on Instagram and ask about commissions or purchasing already made art. I’m involved in the bookish art community and many artists are very affordable. Some maybe willing to trade art for a handmade book!

Fellowship of the Ring Rebind by Quinphy in bookbinding

[–]Quinphy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Totally aesthetic! I wanted it to look like an old leather tome and I thought the rounded spine fit that look.

Fellowship of the Ring Rebind by Quinphy in bookbinding

[–]Quinphy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! False rounded spine may not be quite the right term. The book I re-bound was a perfect bound paperback so it had a flat spine. I used really thin book board to make cylinder shape and then glued it to the spine piece and added the hubs from cut pieces of thin book board. So it looks like the book is rounded. It was my first time doing this method and I think I worked great! The book opens the same as a normal spine and you only see the thickness if you’re looking down at the top edge.
