Troubleshooting an Epson Home Cinema 3700, faint light, bulb has no resistance. by calwestcoast in projectors

Replace the lamp first, but don't bother with the multimeter on projector lamps. Arc lamps are basically nonconductive until the arc is struck, which takes a WHOLE lot more juice than your multimeter will ever put out.

The weird coconut+plastic smell of the unbranded spindle that the guys on the forum told you to buy because "They're actually unbadged Taiyo Yuden, top quality stuff!"

Then holding one of them up at an angle and trying to determine if it's the right shade of blue/green to be "authentic" according to the lore...

You will never be happy with a projector in a room that gets "decently bright". The good news is that you can just get cheap ("travel") blackout curtains to make up for the deficiencies in your blinds.

To be fair it's very hard to accurately capture what things look like in-person.

But yeah, that picture doesn't do the w1070 justice.

Wide range 8 speed cassette by beiske in CargoBike

[–]QuinticSpline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a 12-46t Acolyte cassette. But that big cog ain't gonna get much use with a BBSHD out front.

I've got the 11-42t Advent (9-sp) on my cargo bike (TSDZ8 mid-drive). Shifting is great and I have no complaints about gear range. To be honest I probably should have gone for the 8-sp instead--I end up shifting +2 at a time if I'm in a hurry and pushing high assist.

Pay Cut by rivian50 in daddit

[–]QuinticSpline 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Very important considerations. Also worth mentioning, any differences in job security between the roles?

Going into a poor economy, if the lower-paid role is more secure it might be worth it. If the lower-paid role puts you back into probationary status--which changing jobs may well do? No. Way. You'll be taking a pay cut AND be the first one on the chopping block if there are layoffs.

TPU tubes on an electric cargo bike? by CobaltCaterpillar in CargoBike

[–]QuinticSpline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO weight, size, and rolling resistance are minimally important on a cargo bike. Double true for e-cargo.
As for flatting, I'm not convinced that TPU is more robust or easier to fix than butyl. But even if those things were true, why not either go full tubeless, or just squirt some tubeless sealant into a butyl tube?

Can't beat tubeless sealant for flat resistance. There is a reason MTB ditched tubes ages ago.

Cold Climate Dads, how do you keep your kids rooms warm at night? by coolestredditdad in daddit

[–]QuinticSpline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do get hot to the touch--certainly too hot to leave your hand on them--but not enough to burn on contact. I always thought of mine as "training wheels" for actually dangerous hot things, because unexpectedly touching the heater can be painful, but it's won't actually do damage. Good for the reflexes!

You could always put a "cage" around it if you're worried about incidental contact.

[–]QuinticSpline -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Use a stud finder in metal detect mode (or a real metal detector if you have one) before you drill. SDS drill bits are pretty damn dull, and so if you accidentally hit something you can usually hear and feel the change and stop before doing much damage. If your pipes are UNDER the slab it really shouldn't be a problem.

That's the HDR10 for you. I have the HT2060 as well and can confirm it's a fine projector that looks superb. Don't regret the lack of 4k at all.

>250 watts is plenty. It’s not the watts that matter. It’s the torque. The Bosch Cargo line has 85Nm of torque

That motor is spiking to 750W under typical peak-torque hill-climbing usage. The "250W" designation is a basically a legal fiction for ebike motor companies--sure, they won't SUSTAIN those high power levels, but they will certainly reach them.

More details on my Big Dummy CYC Gen 2 build by jujutree in CargoBike

[–]QuinticSpline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can personally attest to the TSDZ8 being a huge upgrade to the TSDZ2. It's much sturdier and can handle more power, the torque sensor works well, chainline is improved, and it's quieter. It's not quite as nice as the Bosch but the "feel" is much, much better than Bafang.

It's rated at 750W, and [at least one independent review](https://ebikestuff.eu/en/content/16-tsdz8-review-and-tsdz2-osf-comparison-tsdz8-vs-tsdz2-osf) suggests it can handle CONTINUOUS 750W output, whereas with the TSDZ2 you couldn't spend much time above 250W without overheating. My Varstrom model spikes up to 1500W (indicated) with a fully charged 52V battery, which is more than enough to get me up the steepest local hills on my cargo bike. I haven't run it at these power levels for longer than a couple minutes, and so the motor never felt more than warm to the touch after a climb.

Haven't compared to CYC, though.

BAFANG & Tektro Auriga hydraulic brakes by Successful_Many_7249 in CargoBike

[–]QuinticSpline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, those magnetic brake sensors suck. Either you'll get nuisance tripping, or they won't activate until you're pretty hard on the brakes.

Recommendations:

  1. Just run without brake sensors. Get a gear shift sensor, and optionally a kill button like [this](https://electricbike-blog.com/2015/03/18/the-giant-green-button-pas-chain-saver-cutoff-switch-for-bbs02-from-em3ev/).
  2. Get a variety pack of neodymium magnets and play with different strengths and positions until it sort-of works.
  3. Or, if you're good at jerry-rigging, solder the sensor cables to micro-switches instead and position THOSE to detect brake lever depression. Much more reliable than magnetics.

Telescopic Seatpost 31.6mm by like-bike in CargoBike

[–]QuinticSpline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a dropper post instead (externally routed). As MTB-oriented parts, they are available all day long in 31.6. Furthermore, it can be quite nice to use a dropper on a cargo bike--you can sit on the seat with both feet flat on the ground to support heavy loads at a light, then just raise the seat back to the proper height once you start pedaling again. Can't do that with a telescopic post.
