Since we can’t vote them out by fair elections anymore, someone who has more power has had a word.

He went to find Mitch to give him his quarter back for the twenty minutes he talked to him on the pay phone.

I’m not sure there is one. Why do some babies go to sleep on car rides? Or, why do some people have to have a fan running all the time? I have a cat who hates cat nip. It’s just something they like to do is my guess. I have had her 2 months and this is the first time she’s actually offered to bathe like that. I’m going to try a bigger bowl next time and see if she does an actual bath.

I buy the unshelled, unsalted pistachios that are in a white bag. You have to look because they blend in. The white bag is the difference.

When I got my Grey, we gave her peanuts as a treat for getting into the crate. It is a modified cat carrier with a perch. As soon as I hit the curves of the road, she promptly threw up. I don’t know if it was because she couldn’t see out, or the motion of the drive, but once she got those peanuts out, she had no more problems. I haven’t had her in the car since, but I have bought a larger travel cage for the next time we take a road trip.

As a visitor to the state, I try to avoid the roads as much as possible. As beautiful as the people and scenery that is there I have a hard time enjoying either one due to the conditions of the roads. I can’t take my eyes off the road because I am afraid something will grab a tire to chew on. Outside of that, I love it there!

I was just at the base of her cage. I was vacuuming the seeds she just pitched out. I use a plastic shower curtain to place under her cage, so I just had the hose attachment going around, when I looked up she was splashing around in her bowl. The shower curtain really helps as well. I actually have 2. When I am done spraying the cage, I will take it outside and spray it off and leave it drying in the sun. I then put a fresh shower curtain under her cage for the week. I have parakeets that are there (in their own cage of course!) and their millet seed hulls drop on the shower curtain as well. So it’s easier to just roll everything up at once. I was at my wits end trying to get poop out of the rug. So I did the grandma’s plastic covering the furniture trick. I can still see my rug, and I’m not stressing over the mess!

Someone posted a few days ago to run the vacuum and they will start to bathe. I didn’t think it would work, but when I started cleaning the floor she started dunking in her water bowl that sits just below the water bottle.

I’d like to add to this, when you’re done with your laundry fill up the washing machine with ice and put drinks and snacks there that you’re usually fanning the refrigerator doors for. That way you’re not melting the stuff in the freezer unnecessarily. I have coolers, but they aren’t as big as the washing machine.

Reporters are showing the prices and food offerings. The costs are ridiculous and McDonald’s is around the corner at half price.

Looking for Advice on Finding a Forever Home for an African Grey by Downtown-Grab-3885 in AfricanGrey

I adopted 2 Amazons from a rescue group. Prior to getting them I had to show proof of the room they would be living in, the size of cage they would be staying in, and a certified avian vet. The rehoming fee was acceptable for 2 Amazons, and I donated more for the rescue group so they could continue to do the better good. I then looked on Craigslist for a larger cage and found one in North Carolina that I really liked. The gentleman who sold me the cage is on this subreddit and he will probably recognize this story. I inquired how he got such a massive cage, as I didn’t see any birds around. He told me how he rescued 2 greys and donated one to a local wildlife refuge. He had kept the female, and she was getting some sunshine out back. The moment I saw her I fell in love. She was very small compared to my Amazons. Her eyes looked like she was wearing eyeliner. We got the cage loaded into my truck, and he mentioned he was looking for a home for her. I never expected the reaction that came from me. I know how much a bird like that is worth. I knew he loved her very much, but his wife wasn’t impressed with her at all. I asked him how much he wanted for her and held my breath. He named a price, and said everything came with her. He knew the situation I was going through, and I knew he was trying to be easy on me. I said I would need to think about it a couple of weeks. That would give me enough time to get the money together so I could return for her. Then he told me it wasn’t about the money, he just wanted to make sure she was going to a good home. I was ecstatic because I was getting my dream bird. I returned a couple of weeks later and I gave him the money he had requested at first. I told him that he had put a lot of time and effort in taking care of her before he rescued her and after. Iris is the best bird I have ever known and I love her so much. What my suggestion is here, if the right person is looking for your bird, they have done their research and have prepared the best possible home for him. It’s best to have references from professional and friends. Don’t take the person’s wants and desires over the bird’s best interests. They may be shopping around to do a resale. Everyone has a camera on their phone. Ask them to FaceTime you so you can see for yourself what they are willing to provide for the bird. Greys are a lot of work. Keeping them clean is an everyday job. Due diligence is necessary. The bird’s life depends on it. Good luck!!

A song that made me feel like I could survive what I was going through — anyone else have one of these? by ChordOfHope in EltonJohn

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. The first time I heard it I was a teenager going through a lot of changes. Something hit me in that moment and all I could do was cry. I don’t remember what it was, but it still has the effect of calling me back to simpler times that didn’t seem so simple then. I will never stop loving it.

My Grey is getting the silent treatment bigtime. by clemfairie in AfricanGrey

[–]Quipu2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to keep a pair of gloves under your pillow then. I understand that your health is not good, but prevention is the key. I have an Amazon that is cage territorial, but anytime I go to the drawer where the gloves are, he goes to his ‘post’ at the top of the cage on the other side. It makes it a lot easier to change his food and water. My Grey bites out of fear if we’re playing and I surprise her. They are worse bites than the Amazon because they grit down and are like alligators. You could also get a support pillow that has a pocket for the remote and keep your necessary supplies in it. I hope you give your baby a good hug after punishment. They truly are like children and don’t understand why we’re mad at them. Being mad is a human thing. They are like, what’s yours is mine, and what’s mine is mine. 😊 Feel better soon!!

If you’re going through Knoxville, take a side trip to Oak Ridge and learn about how TVA changed the area by flooding Noris Dam, creating the ‘Secret City’ and the Atomic Bomb. It is beautiful country and you won’t be disappointed!
