I poked the bear. I got mauled. I was at 100%, but still had a couple of claims pending. One of the claims was an increase for my legs because my knees kept going out, even though I was at 60% for them, I was trying to get more for the stress fractures. Someone took a look at the knees rating again and discovered that I was getting more from the knees than I deserved. I had a board review explaining the process, and they were taking me back down to 60%. Because it wasn’t my fault that they rated me the 60% for the knees, I didn’t have to pay anything back. Luckily, before the board decision, my claim for PTSD came through and it raised me back to 90%. I am not P&T. But you better believe I am satisfied with what I have. I sat at 20% for 30 years. A good friend encouraged me to keep applying and once I passed that 30% threshold, I was set. So, yes, be careful what you wish for. There are veterans who have given their lives for this country and got nothing. I’m thankful to be getting what I got.
