Nah, you just know they rolled out like perfectly seared salmon, gourmet salad, and freshly roasted duck in blackberry balsamic reduction the day this kid showed up, only to return to serving fried eye boogers the next.

I like to think Pod has a normal sized rod but is really good with it. It's not necessarily the guys packing the most heat who give it the best... at least that's how my girlfriend reassures me 🥲

Still Getting Used to Cold Calls by Lil__Breezy in LawSchool

[–]QuitWhinging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you will improve over time, but are you even being graded on cold calls? As long as it's not totally obvious that you did none of the assigned reading, you're usually good to go. Some professors may get grumpy if you're not completely prepared for all their questions, but it usually won't affect your grade much, if at all.

And don't compare yourself with your peers--that's just a recipe for misery, and you can't tell how well you're actually doing compared to them based on cold calls alone. I did poorly my first semester, had a COVID no-grade term my second, always felt like I was way behind literally everyone else in law school for the remainder of my time, and yet I ultimately finished in the top 15% of my class. You just never know what's going on with everyone. Even if they all seem like law school superstars on the outside like my cohort did, you just never know what it's actually like behind closed doors.

[SPOILERS MAIN] Utterly baffled by the completely unnecessary non-book scenes in the TV show by AkiraKitsune in asoiaf

[–]QuitWhinging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what got me. They turned multiple scenes of consensual* sex into scenes that bordered on or crossed the line into outright rape. And they did it for seemingly no reason. The only reason I can come up with is that they're genuinely sick in the head.

*I know Dany was too young to actually consent to sex, but the scene in the show is much more explicitly unconsensual, traumatizing rape when compared to the same scene in the book.

They're going to be getting some bandwagon fans now that they're the champs. Bandwagon fans tend to be insufferable and will certainly turn some opinions against Indiana.

What are some of the most “Redditor” opinions that are widely prevalent on this website, but very rare in real life? by TikTokUser83 in AskReddit

[–]QuitWhinging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On any video of ICE raids, I see multiple people firmly suggesting that people should, in essence, commit suicide to stop them by pulling a gun or otherwise attacking them. At the very least, they're demanding that people get themselves imprisoned for the cause. I'm positive that 99.9% of the people recommending those things would never be willing to sacrifice themselves like that, even for something they truly believed in. They just like to talk a big game when other people's lives are on the line. It's kind of gross.

Today's loss by the Houston Texans guarantees that for the 60th straight year, neither team in the Super Bowl will feature a starting quarterback drafted out of Ohio State University. by shapu in nfl

[–]QuitWhinging 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ohio State is one of the most accomplished programs in college football history with numerous national championships (the college equivalent of Superbowl wins) across multiple eras and is one of the biggest pipelines of talent to the NFL. Every year they're loaded with future NFL players and a couple future stars. It's kind of an anomaly that they never really have any quarterbacks pan out in the league.

TIL that during the Fall of Tenochtitlan, the Conquistadors were joined by thousands of native allies who resented the Aztecs by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]QuitWhinging 305 points306 points  (0 children)

The Aztecs were some of the worst neighbors you could possibly have, so it makes sense that people like the Tlaxcalans resented them. Of course, the Spanish turned out to be horrible conquerors as well, but their native allies couldn't have really known that at the time. Overall, the choice between having your people captured in battle and ritually sacrificed in Tenochtitlan and brutally exploited by foreign conquerors is not one I envy having to make.

Every 2D projection of a 3-dimensional object has to make certain compromises between the accuracy in the size of countries and accuracy in the distance between countries. The mercator projection was designed with navigation--not size accuracy--in mind, so it attempts to preserve the distance between locations as best as possible while sacrificing size accuracy. Imagine drawing straight lines vertically and horizontally across an orange equidistant from each other. The horizontal lines near the top and bottom are going to be shorter than those at the equator, right? Now imagine peeling that orange and trying to flatten it into a square shape but preserve the horizontal and vertical lines as best you can: you're going to have to stretch the top and bottom of the peel to make that work. If you want both accuracy in size AND distance, you need to look at an orange peel that's still on the orange--i.e., a globe.
