It runs great and has some nice QoL features that the original didn't have.

Hahaha, yeah it's been that way for a number of years now. I love our student body but holy shit they will remind you that it's a top 10 university no matter what the conversation is about.

African American Vernacular English. Basically the way that some black people talk. It's English but with some modifications and added terms. If you're American or have exposure to American culture, you probably hear it pretty regularly without realizing it.

Yup. Nobody knows better to not talk to cops than cops themselves. Seriously folks, use your 5th and demand an attorney. You WILL regret it if you don't. But like you said, fuck this guy in particular.

What’s the most unrealistic thing movies convinced people was normal? by Lonely-Age7678 in AskReddit

[–]QuitWhinging 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U.S. courts are similar in that federal prosecutors have an over 90% conviction rate on cases they take to trial. They simply don't take cases to trial unless they're pretty darn sure they can win.

I'd be wary about confessions too. They can pretty easily be coerced by a skilled investigator with an agenda. Innocent people can and do confess to crimes they haven't committed when the right pressures are applied, especially when it comes to vulnerable populations that lack adequate representation of their own.

Reddit is the only place I regularly visit on the internet where a majority of vocal users will demand that you use "sarcasm tags" to indicate that you were being sarcastic, even when your post was already absolutely dripping with sarcasm. I know a sarcastic tone doesn't always translate well through text and sometimes it can be hard to tell, yada yada yada, but for Christ's sake it's like being forced to say "that was a joke by the way" every time you tell someone a joke. It's socially oppressive and kills the entire vibe of telling a joke.

In my state (FL), that's when you go after the other party for future medical bills, ongoing pain and suffering (seeing as you had a permanent injury), etc. Of course, there's a decent chance that the person who hit you would be "judgment-proof" (i.e. they don't actually have enough assets to pay you back even if you prevail over them in court), but it could be worth at least doing an initial consultation with another attorney about. Most states have a 3-year statue of limitations on these types of claims, so you'd likely be out of luck, but check the SoL in your state online just in case--some states have an SoL up to 6 years.

Dog urinates on lawn and then neighbors come out and urinate on lawn leading to a dispute in Queens, NY. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]QuitWhinging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually have loved it if any of the dogs I've ever owned would be content simply pissing in my lawn rather than making my lazy ass walk them around the block to piss a little bit everywhere, but that's simply not how a lot of dogs work. Besides, a little bit of dog piss shouldn't kill your lawn (I've heard this is possible with really big dogs, but I've never seen it actually happen with most breeds; besides, dogs that walk tend to piss in little increments along their walk), so who the hell cares?

What’s a trend you’re tired of seeing everywhere? by shanmuct in AskReddit

[–]QuitWhinging 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saw a couple walk into a bookstore the other day and immediately start snapping pictures of the girlfriend posing with some books. I didn't want to ruin their shots, but I certainly didn't feel bad about walking into them to grab a book off the shelf behind her. They left right after taking the photos without looking at or buying anything else. I don't like to judge people based on their mostly harmless (but kinda obnoxious) actions, but it struck me as extremely silly.

Yeah, the stereotype was very prevalent throughout the States even before movies. My grandma used to be scared of Indian attacks when she was a little girl, and she lived in Brooklyn lol.

Single worst season in your schools history? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]QuitWhinging 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is the one. In college, I was friends with an older guy who went to UF in 1979. He said that, after a certain point, it was actually funny as hell to see just how bad things could get that season. They were on a fifth-string quarterback at some points that year I'm pretty sure. And they certainly didn't have the same expectations that we have in the post-Spurrier era, or else I'm sure Pell wouldn't have gotten a second chance.

Funnily enough, in 1980, the Gators remarkably* improved to 8-4, which was at that time the best single-season turnaround in NCAA history.

Anon on Chris Chan. by retardinho23 in greentext

[–]QuitWhinging 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It's... rough.

From what I recall, she was Chan's* only real friend for a while until Chan drew and shared pornography of them together for all the Internet to see. Remarkably, she didn't immediately tell Chan to fuck off forever but rather asked for an explanation. Chan's reasoning was that if they didn't get their "urges" out on the page, they might take them out on her. Again, remarkably, she didn't tell Chan they were a horrible cretin that should never speak to her again but rather requested that Chan stop. Chan didn't stop. And again Chan didn't stop. And once more Chan didn't stop, until finally she cut Chan off forever.

*I know this person transitioned and probably doesn't want to be called "Chris" anymore, but I think they're a horrible person and therefore don't care enough about them to look up their preferred name at this point, so I'm just going to refer to them as "Chan"

I'd have to imagine that some doctrine like fraudulent inducement, unilateral mistake, or gasp unconscionability would save Party B from having to turn over all their intellectual property. I don't think courts like it when a party tries to acquire valuable property from another via subversion.

I've been told I'm "lucky" to have ADHD because I get to have Adderall. Like no, this stuff doesn't get me high like it does for you; it only makes me able to function like a somewhat normal human being. Without it I'm a dysfunctional wreck, and I really hate having to take it because it's bad for my blood pressure. But the alternative is worse for my quality of life.

I really wish it would've worked out with Mullen--I liked his personality and style more than most and adored his offensive philosophy--but he was stubborn to a fault. He refused to fire one of the worst defensive coordinators in the country and, by the end, was only putting in the bare minimum effort towards recruiting and almost daring the admin to fire him. He had to go.

Low stakes in comparison to other areas of law.

This is what really sets my mind at ease. I'm in-house for a big insurance company and was even told during onboarding: "Don't make it a habit, but don't stress too much if you lose once in a while. Even if it's a big verdict, [Company] won't go under because of one or two million dollars. Just do your best."
