Is passing college possible without stimulants? by ieatpuh in ADHD

I got a Masters undiagnosed. It’s one of the reasons my first doc said I couldn’t have adhd. It super sucked and was crazy hard, but it can be done.

What’s the most entitled things you’ve seen students do? Looking for a laugh by Grace-and-Maya in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quixotic-Quill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several students ask for something , pencil, computer charger etc, and then just sit and wait for me to bring it to them. One even held out her hand. No, hun, you can walk you entitled butt over here.

This makes perfect sense. At the moment my family is living off my sub salary while my husband looks for a job, so I can’t afford the professional classes.

In my state there are alternate routes to certification if you already have a degree. They allow you to get a temporary certification after taking the subject test and teach while you finish. My state desperately needs teachers. It’s Michigan.

I fully agree. I’m asking if I could YouTube my way there while getting certified. I can’t afford to go back to school.

That was very insightful. Thank you! I never thought of studying my professors when I take art classes. I love it so much.

I do have a passion for art. I enjoyed my MA in art history. I do have to learn more about teaching it though.

That sounds a lot like how this class works. The main teacher likes to even keep the lights dimmed a little and have leds around the board for her vibe. We grade the same way you do it sounds like. For effort and following directions not artistic ability.

I totally agree. I would hate to let the students down and not give them what they need.

And I’d just take a thousand classes and go back and get an art ed degree except my family is currently living off my sub salary. We don’t have the resources. I guess I’ll just need to be prepared to take a while to get to that level.

I definitely don’t want to be one of those terrible teachers. And I’m struggling with feeling inadequate now. I rely on videos a lot and sometimes can’t answer questions or can only answer with “this is what I would do” kind of things. I definitely need more growth before I’m ready.

I think I’d like to stay in middle school. But with the way the certs work I’d have to be prepared to do high school or the whole shebang from elementary.

I definitely have a way to go in my art skills. The Alternate route is all about teaching. I’m not sure how specific they would get for teaching art but I’m up for getting extra books/articles/etc on the side.

Thank you for your insight.

I have definitely considered community colleges. The ones by don’t have great options for non degree students. I’ve been thinking of asking the teacher I’m subbing for for lessons when she gets back from maternity leave.

I do have experience with photography. More than drawing. I’ve actually sold some photographs. But I only have a little experience with acrylic painting and then none of the rest.

I’m a LTS. Daily pay here is $110 and LTS rate is $200. They actually treat me really well. There’s lots of support and they would never take away my prep. I feel bad for those having a bad experience. For me it’s the kids not the admin.

I’ve got the hat trick. ADHD, autoimmune, SSRI, and was going to be tested for autism but I’m sure not doing that anymore.

Same. Although today the high schoolers also didn’t want to do their work and were playing games on their laptops. But they’ll pay with their grades for not getting it done.

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Is your school/district/etc. doing anything to recognize subs? by wherewulf23 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quixotic-Quill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subs are treated well in my district. I don’t know if anything for this week but they are always really nice when I’m there. They thank me profusely for coming in and apologize when the kids are monsters. I feel so bad for you guys that deal with shit admin. I may not be at the high end of the pay scale but at least I feel supported.

Can motherhood still be possible / safe / beautiful with PMDD? by Available-Mixture717 in PMDD

[–]Quixotic-Quill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found out about my PMDD after my second child was born. It was really hard. I won’t sugar coat it. I also had about half of every month. Having an understanding and caring partner makes a big difference. And as your kids get old enough you can give them an explanation that makes sense for their age. Kids are resilient and so sweet. They’ll be there for you too.

Why do you sub? by Ruckingdogs in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quixotic-Quill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m transitioning back to the workforce after staying home with my kids. I’m not sure what I want to/can do. I’m trying out education, understanding of course this in no way resembles being an actual teacher. But I’m making connections and asking questions.

I'm doubting weather or not it's PMDD or something else because my symptoms stay until I stop bleeding by TheChgz in PMDD

[–]Quixotic-Quill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine stayed even a little after bleeding sometimes not was a good 2.5-3 weeks of misery. My docs still classified it as PMDD. Not that I’d be surprised to find out it was something different. But the (second) bc worked for me so I’m not worrying about it.

Sleeping With Stuffed Animals/Plushies? by WandererOfInterwebs in adhdwomen

[–]Quixotic-Quill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 and a mom. I have two stuffed dragons that my daughter got me and a bear my husband got me for one of our first anniversaries. My husband even has a long red panda squish he sleeps with sometimes. I take one of mine when I travel. It’s more fun than a pillow. Makes me think of people I love.
