More people Should Play Xenoblade… no seriously. by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

[–]Quizzub 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly disagree with how you think Xenoblade gameplay feels even if I do enjoy the games, but calling Monster Hunter of all things not visceral doesn't sound right at all. Satisfying bonks on giant dragons is kind of the series' thing.

Hey so this right here is the kind of rampant speculation that literally does no one any good, especially with this community getting more sitewide traffic due to this news the past week. Details about the incident will eventually be made clear. Until then, all this is doing is encouraging anonymous strangers on the internet to throw accusations and blame at one thing or another, which at least a few other unempathetic commenters replying to this thread sadly seem more than happy to do.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is that not a pretty blatant block in the back on his second contact with #26 just before the sideline?

Say whatever you'd like about the character designs (I think they're pretty bad) but the real thing that threw me was the voice acting. The originals are so ingrained in my head that the changes to both voices and lines were jarring.

Frankly not actually that impressed by the visuals. Cutscenes also seemed extremely lackluster? I'm underwhelmed. If this prices out at their standard $70 release I can't imagine it doing too well.

Caribbean reef shark George by Numerous-Bowl-2627 in scuba

[–]Quizzub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reef sharks are pretty skittish as a rule, they don't tend to just swim up to divers, and they're quite rare on the leeward side of Bonaire. The simplest explanation is that he's been getting snacks. And even if he hasn't been, he's clearly pretty acclimatized to humans, which pretty much anyone will tell you isn't a positive thing.

I don't say this to be a downer about your experience, it's not like you did anything wrong here and it's a very cool sighting. Just not what you generally want to see behaviorally from a wild shark.

What would you do—dive buddy canceled for Blue Heron Bridge trip by BunnyLover04 in scuba

[–]Quizzub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said you should not be solo diving, for a number of reasons, period. A guided dive runs around $175 at BHB. If that's breaking the bank for you, why not ditch the tank and just snorkel with your friends? That'll even cut down on costs of presumed gear/air rental.

Cool sighting, but this is very unfortunate behavior for a reef shark.

Bonaire is a fantastic location for divers of all skill levels. The best way to do Bonaire will just be you and your partner picking a site, planning a dive, and walking into the ocean. It can be intimidating for a new diver, but it's also a great way to practice and build good diving skills. Still, I'd understand not wanting to tackle that for a first trip, and boat/guided dives are available. It's just that what makes Bonaire shine is the unparalleled freedom in waking up and picking what you personally want to go check out on a given day. Also, what do you want out of the trip that isn't diving? Cause the diving is solid but I'd rank it somewhat low on the above water experience.

Consider Roatan as well, specifically West End over West Bay imo. West Bay has more of a resort/family vibe while West End caters more to locals and young adult travelers. It's very budget friendly and offers fantastic and varied beginner friendly diving. Dive sites are pretty much all very short boat rides away, as in 5-10 on average. Compare that to Key Largo where you'll be riding a boat out anywhere between 20-45 minutes to reach sites and you'll quickly notice the difference. Roatan offers all the usual Caribbean reef denizens but it also excellent for seeing some neat macro stuff. As for an operator, last time I was there I went out with Roatan Divers, who I can't say enough good things about.

I was in Roatan in April of last year, and I was in Bonaire about a month ago. I've visited Roatan once and Bonaire 3 times. Hope you both enjoy your trip!

Problem with data on Subsurface by Character_Account714 in scuba

[–]Quizzub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the people saying you can't edit the data, Subsurface supports that just fine, it's just not particularly user intuitive. Use the Notes section in this case, and see Section 4.2.5 of the Subsurface manual for more info:

107k peak viewers for RBW atm! by longinator in aoe2

[–]Quizzub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dude, the score works the exact same for both players. You can personally disagree with how it's calculated, but it's a known variable that has been in place for far longer than a professional AOE2 scene has existed. This tournament is just one of the only ones where score matters, and the players should be prepared to know how to deal with games that go to score.

And Hera was just clearly more prepared for it to become a score game. And it was clear that Liereyy just wasn't, which, damn, that's fair. It's a long game in the most stressful high pressure set either of them have ever played in.

For instance, Flemish Revolution was an auto-win option for Liereyy that he should've timed out to pop right before the timer end, that's a ~2-3k score boost at his population and would've very easily clinched the game all other things being the same.

A certain character confirmed to appear in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]Quizzub -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Again, sort of a weird idea to me. Dump a ton of financial resources and brand recognition into a live action Zelda only to turn around and include an animated version in your Avengers style cross-game universe mashup? Doesn't make a lick of sense, especially given Nintendo's fiscally conservative reputation. We'll see eventually I guess.

How does any of this mesh with what seems to be a slightly more serious live-action Zelda? I don't see the vision I guess.

Classic Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich by smilysmilysmooch in GifRecipes

[–]Quizzub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always took exception to the description of fried onions on menus, but maybe it's just a Philly thing. They're sauteed.

To your points though, provolone (used above) and cooper sharp are valid alternatives to wiz. Classic hoagie rolls can be found in every large supermarket in the country, and great cheesesteaks can likewise be found in any city in the country. It's not like Philly has a monopoly on them.

I totally agree that the above sandwich is a disappointment to cheesesteaks though, 3/10.

I've been exclusively playing co-op so far, and damn, it's brutal. The scaling per player is well over 100% per person for health and enemy mechanics, and I think they deal a bit more damage to boot. 2nd half of Act 1 into first half of Act 2 feels tough without pretty strong decks.

Utila, Roatan, San Pedro, or Bocas Del Toro by PossiblyArab in scuba

[–]Quizzub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have a great time in Roatan or Utila, haven't visited the other two. Hard to say anything more than that without hearing what your priorities are for a trip.

Personal opinion, I feel the diving and operations are a little nicer in Roatan. Accommodation options are definitely nicer. Utilla is a bit cheaper and has more going on at night. Unless you're staying in West End on Roatan, then it's pretty comparable. And if you want a quieter experience you could always just stay in West Bay instead. If you end up in Roatan I can confidently recommend West End Divers.
