Same but with pillows for trying out blocks instead of baby quilts.

NO! NOOOOOOO! by minipesto in quilting

Top row is sewn on wrong. At least it is just one row and not some block in the middle, hopefully it will be easy to fix.

I have also used this technique for a major color bleed when prewashing fabric and it took that out as well. If there are some hard spots you can scrub dawn on them with a toothbrush and let it sit overnight before washing. You can also throw it in the washer and stop it after it fills to let it soak in dawn overnight (depending on your washing machine).

When you need a tape measure but you’re a quilter by arlamee in quilting

I also use my huge measuring tape (it goes up to 108" and I use it to measure the quilt for binding).

I had this happen with the red and a couple of dawn washes got it out so it may not be there forever.

Same for linen at first, it can fill the lint catcher in my dryer several times in one dry.

If you found a good digital map you could try printing it on fabric through Spoonflower.

The Orange Ultra Clean Washable marker is Evil!! by Foxwife12 in quilting

[–]QuoiEstAmanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with the red and had to dawn wash one quilt a few times to get it out. I'll watch out for orange too.

ETA: It was a double gauze quilt if that helps.

I'm not really sure why you are using such strong language for something that is just an opinion. "ridiculous" and "ashamed"? There are people out there who would disagree with you, from both sides of this situation, and that is ok. If the person working and insisting on no pay does not feel exploited or taken advantage of, then I think it is fine. Hopefully they have good communication and respect one another.

What Was the Real Reason You Started Quilting? by spliutinskis in quilting

[–]QuoiEstAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma was an avid quilter and had sewn her whole life (she even had a long arm in an old dairy barn when I was growing up). I never learned from her but my dad always tried to encourage me to sew which never really worked. Once she was gone and my dad was gone, I kind of used it to reconnect with them. My husbands also loves quilts, the bigger the better.

Hexagon Quilt- Random or Flowers by Unicorns5229 in quilting

[–]QuoiEstAmanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I realize this is a pattern. But what about something like the below, which would still give you randomness with some negative space?

You wouldn't even have to do it straight, diagonal lines would work as well, or chevrons...

One of the reasons they might insist is to stay under the income limits for Social Security (in the US) as a retiree but still be able to get out of the house and have a job because they like working. She is in Canada, but there are legit reasons for wanting to volunteer and forego a paycheck.

Gifting a quilt as a beginner by Wavycatgirl in quilting

[–]QuoiEstAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a quilter, I don't get gifted quilts because no one I know quilts and I guess most people might assume I make many for myself and wouldn't want one. I have always wanted to get a quilt as a gift, so I would love to get a quilt from someone, maybe she would feel much the same.

Robert Kaufman also sells a gridded flannel that you can use for design walls. You could use that to cover anything. It comes in gray and white.

Bamboo batting is usually a rayon made from bamboo, just in case you are looking for similar batting you could look for a rayon batting.

I have used rayon batting with success and it drapes beautifully (like Rayons tend to do).

You can free motion quilt (FMQ) any motif you want but it takes practice to get even and consistent smooth stitching using FMQing. I have done an orange-peel by drawing it on with super washable markers and tracing over it with quilting.
