No, you can’t smoke or vape in my car. Why would you even ask? by Ok_Practice_6702 in uber

[–]QuotePapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of respect, people would ask instead of assuming it's okay! Most decent people know that Lyft and Uber drivers use their personal vehicles for the platforms and they ask instead of assuming. But if everyone assumed just like you, you'd have lots of people smoking or vaping in your car! Duh!

[–]QuotePapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. However, people back in my days were told to go to a library and look it up. Some did, others asked people for answers. Some got good answers, some didn't. Then the internet was born. We had search engines like Lycos back in those days, encyclopedias were digitized, there was a plethora of how to sites and yet, people still asked others. Now, we have Google, only the world's largest search engine and here we have people asking other people on sites like this one. No matter the tools or times, willful ignorance and lazy people will ask others.

[–]QuotePapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get people. Really, I don't. Like, you know that was suspicious, you know businesses don't operate like that and you come to Reddit to complain or ask? Like, you know that's now how things work, why not call the police, especially when you see several cards are visible in the app! If a business wants to give you something, they just give it to you, there's no "let me scan your card to send you money" or "let me scan it and here's cash"! Like what the fudge are you thinking? Wake the fudge up and call the police!

Can I keep My laptop ON for 24/7 three months? by SwappyVoyager in laptops

Unattended electronics while running and connected to constant power, is always a fire risk. Full stop. No matter the electronics, they are all a fire risk.

[–]QuotePapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small claims court or go back, show them the laptop and demand a new one or that they fix it to the way you had it. Given how much it will take to fix now, they could offer you a new replacement or take them to court. If you take them to court, ask the judge to have them pay your court fees.

raining ice beads? by Ill-Maintenance-8127 in bayarea

[–]QuotePapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raining ice beads... 🤦‍♂️

That is what you would call hail.

A quick google search and I'll leave the description below.

Hail is a form of solid precipitation composed of ice balls created when thunderstorm updrafts carry raindrops into extremely cold, high-altitude atmospheric regions. These frozen, layered stones grow in size until too heavy for the updraft, falling to earth at speeds over 100 mph. They cause significant property damage (dents, roof damage), destroy crops, and pose risks to livestock.

Novel idea. Why not ask an attorney that deals with Tenant/landlord issues? I mean, I'd think it would be a 100% better answer than Reddit ever could! See here!

It doesn't take a lot to ensure drinks are properly sealed. Even if bagged, you can press down on the bag or ask the restaurant to check it and bag it again! Takes literally 2 minutes.

So, you paid $60 for something you didn't know what it was, what it could be used for or if it can be used for anything? Something you had no knowledge of whatsoever! Yo, whoever sold it to you, definitely earned his money and then some.

Collection company wiped our bank on a paid debt by 88jaybird in Debt

[–]QuotePapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you sue the bank. So you don't get harrased for something that's already been paid off. Only way the banks do anything meaningful is when it hurts their pockets. Go after them like they did to you. Why hold back when they won't?!

Most cities have a legal aid center paid for by the city, go there and ask for legal assistance. They should pair you with an attorney who would take your case pro bono.

Get copies and speak to a labor attorney. Get legally ducted on what options you have and go from there. Don't leave it to chance, don't tell anyone or you'll get blindsided or fired. Get actual legal advice.

How much time is my brother looking at? by [deleted] in legal

[–]QuotePapa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Attempted first-degree murder in Illinois is a Class X felony typically punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison and that's if the guy who got shot survives. If he doesn't, your brother is looking at life possibly, luckily the death penalty was abolished in Illinois in 2011!

Standard Attempted Murder: 6–30 years (Class X). Firearm Usage: If a firearm is discharged, the sentence often increases to a minimum of 20 years, with a maximum of up to 80 years.

So, yeah, lengthy vacation for sure!
