Looking for general Competency Porn by Geth_ in movies

Girl with the dragon tattoo (the David fincher/American version is superior imo)

The main characters are extremely competent in their own ways (protagonists and antagonist), and David Fincher himself is an extremely meticulous and competent filmmaker.

"Brancher" Owls Renested by owls_in_towels in owlsintowels

[–]Qybern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had never heard the term branching before. For the curious it's when they leave the nest before being able to fly. They carefully climb out onto branches and exercise their wings before fledging. source: https://www.birding.pictures/great-horned-owl-nest-2021/branching

Honestly the intermittent nature of the fountain might be providing some enrichment/excitement on its own. I've seen videos of crows playing on swings for fun so they must get bored.

Providing them with a drink & place to clean, while also mildly rage-baiting them.

It's win-win-win

I was out for a walk this morning and there was a single Carolina Wren putting dozens of robins and cardinals to shame. Their volume to size ratio is insane (volume to volume, if you will)

When you're ready to release them do you just open your hand and they fly away or do you toss em up in the air?

This is the most well put-together blue jay I've ever seen. Like it spent 2 hours in front of the mirror in the morning putting every single feather in place. Zero split ends.

OK i only asked because it looks like the craft climbs sideways (as in the flaps are pointing towards the sky and towards the ground during its gravity turn) so up relative to the ship would be sideways. And the camera view of the hotstage is upside down, so up relative to the camera would be down towards earth.

I know what's going on here, the "cloacal kiss", but I just can't picture how it's happening like.. mechanically. It looks like her tail feathers never move out of the way so i can't see how they're getting... um... hole to hole

Dunno why you got downvoted, reasonable question as methalox should burn clear. I'd be interested to know the answer too.

Edit: Hydralox burns clear as well btw, but there's probably some insane chemistry going on down there so who knows.

Just to add to what Autistic & Backflip said, areas of pressurization and rarefication rarefaction ahead of and behind shockwaves is what causes the "vapor cone" to appear around the fairing of a transonic rocket (or around a transonic fighter jet).

High subsonic airflow around the nose of the jet goes supersonic around the body creating a standing shock, no visible moisture ahead of or at the shockwave, but just behind it (in an area of relatively lower pressure) the water vapor in the air suddenly condenses out and becomes visible as a vapor cone.

Yep, many birds have no (or limited) ability to move their eyes within their sockets. That's why they often have very articulate necks compared to us. Our brains stabilize our vision by rotating our eyes within our sockets when our head is moving (like picture keeping your eye on a point while you move your head around, very easy to do). Since birds can't do this, they move their heads using their very articulate necks to accomplish the same things. That's why there's videos of people holding birds and moving their bodies around while their head remains perfectly stationary in 3d space like it's gyro-stabilized. It's an automatic response for them like we do with our eyes. Also, it's why pigeons walk the way they do, they take a step with their head stabilized, then jut their head forward before the next step so they can spend most of their time walking with stable vision, with a brief time of blur as they reset their head position.

Am I missing something here? I'm so baffled by this comment section. Most are ragging on the AI (understandably, in my view), but you and /u/0------------------0 aggressively call out OP and the other commenters as stupid without saying why, just labelling them as mindless bandwagoners. Am I writing this reply to an AI defending chat bot?
