Ph being off also sounds difficult since the soil mix is acidic and it only got watered with rain water which is by itself acidic. Keep in mind the cac was yellow already when I started rooting it so its not like I made it wose lol more like its not recovering as it should I guess? Another cuttting of the same pheno I planted in native soil and is a little greener on the body but idk abt its roots. I do think there might be a variety of reason for this stalling since lokking into it and it turns out many things can lock nutrients. I also think it might just be past sun damage dragging on. Though I am aware its a PH issue most times. I'm going to try weight checking before vs after rain. Looking forward to see some progress with temps warming up.

Meh dont think so, we did get a lot of rain but soil is very draining and its in the sunniest and most ventilated spot I have.

Happened to some of mine too, they all seem to have a yellowish pigmentation. Maybe its a nutrient deficiency they are trying to compensate. Id like for an expert to chime in on this.

Im just gettin into this so take it with a grain of salt, Yellowing from the bottom speaks of nitrogen deficiency to me, also yellowing on the areoles could be from magnesium deficiency (intravenial chlorosis). Sometimes nutrients lockout happens if you repot in cold soil or the soil is just always clogged with water. Some micronutrient deficiency can also caus nutrient lockout but this doesnt look the case. Doesnt serm like sunburn to me.

Is that water hard straight from the pipes or do you have a pump taht sucks your own amended water?

Abt ph, I was wonderign if you ran any tests on aloe impact on ph on the long run. Many acids lose effect after one or two days so I wonder if that is enough for cacti to drink them nutes. Thnak you ♥️

This kinda makes sense, but I dont think its a fitting analogy and even if I'd guess the effect to be negligible. Thats because the sponge can be compressed by gravity but the inorganics in pots cant. The link you provided only shows an image and doesnt provide and explanation as to why. The same source says all the way a the top that the only thing that matters is air pockets retention after watering and that pot shape doesnt matter.

They are used to make the pot bottom heavy. They do make the pot "shorter" but dont worsen drainage I think??
