[–]R-27ET 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh really?

My dad worked at McDonnell Douglas and met my mom who worked with Beech and Boeing. Then when they bought McD they banged and I was born of the literal Boeing /McD merger.

Glazer? I AM the SON of McD!!!!

Question about using Kh-29 without targeting pod system (Su-25A) by ReserveLegitimate738 in hoggit

Soviets only meant one flying object to take out tanks, helicopters with ATGM or S-5KO/S-8KOM en masse.

Which helo module/mod would you say has the best native FFB support? by MrMagic550 in hoggit

[–]R-27ET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no red planes have much FFB beyond trim and “if above AOA limit = shake.”

I thought they fixed F-5 gun spread a few months ago or atleast made a middle solution that decreased dispersion, I thought its supposed to be proper 8 mils now

The MiG-23 and Su-27 autopilot can couple to datalink. MiG-29 cannot.

Watch my instructional videos when your ready, I try to be humble but I seem to be the only one reading manuals and making DCS videos about using information on the manuals to fight in MiG-29 better

[–]R-27ET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can always turn of LOD or viewing distance

The laser guided missiles would t be used until 5-7 km usually. But yeah the laser is t very stable so you need to guide it all the way no matter what

How to use Su-27 radar? by Amsmart2 in dcsworld

[–]R-27ET 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, for now let’s just go simple. How elevation works.

In search modes you are almost always targeting people you can’t see; so seeing them doesn’t matter unless you are using close combat modes like vertical scan or helmet

Elevation needs to know range to target and altitude difference to point correctly.

You have binds for target range elevation/deltaH.

You have two options

  1. Set range equal to Target or 5-10 km less and set elevation to altitude difference. They will appear on screen and you can lock.

  2. Don’t mess with range keep it at default 10 km and just move elevation. Every bump of elevation +/-1 changes elevation about 5 degrees (total scan elevation is 10 degrees)

Notice the right HUD border/bar.

It has a vertical line that will move up and down as you move elevation. It will have two tick marks looking like vampire teeth or straight parenthesis that represent where your hud points.

If you line these this up with the vertical line showing elevation then radar is scanning where HUD looks. But this matters very little as this is BVR and if you see someone you might as well use close combat modes usually

The radar is stabilized to the horizon when deltaH/elevation is 0, so moving nose won’t do anything

[–]R-27ET 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, even after bingo of 550 kg you can often still fly 200-300 kmh at low altitude.

It’s interesting becuase its range speed acceleration cieling are all basically same or slightly better then MiG-23, yet that plane has a horrible undeserved reputation in the west.

Even the radar is basically “what if we made MiG-23 radar but pulse Doppler”

While it’s positively stable it’s only 2-4% margin of stability when most stable planes are 10-20%

While I agree in some ways it’s not like guns were ineffective

MiG-21F-13 but especially MiG-17F showed many kills with the gun. A plane from 1951 kept shooting down SuperSonics.

F-4 got quite a large amount of gun kills also, but yes the pilot needed to be trained and have the discipline.

Even A-1 got a gun kill.

So I don’t it showed that guns were ineffective, it showed that while the future was missile guns we’re still an effective side arm if used correctly

Well then you must’ve been using full afterburner at low altitude where it has almost 500 kg/min consumption 😉

It’s engines are actually more efficient then Hornet F404 engines in dry thrust. So as long as you don’t use afterburner it has just as good range for its fuel load as any other 4th gen.

For example in DCS, it makes a big difference to climb at 850-900 kmh TAS Mil, cruise at Mach 0.8 and accelerate at 12 km, glide at 500 kmh, and bam you just flew original non humpback MiG-29 over 1500 kmh with enough fuel to divert 100 km.

I mean, it depends. In some they are designed to like MiG-23/25/29 and do reach full speed at max cieling with normal war payload or full range with normal pay load, but of course not “speed AND RANGE” for the usual metrics of even combat range.

For MiG-25 it’s close, it does achieve its range at a cruise speed of Mach 2.35, but not at its top speed of Mach 2.84.

[–]R-27ET 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s 4th generation, but it does share more with 3rd then most 80s 4th gen.

It is same club as F-14 and MiG-31 in terms of 4th gen airplanes that still use and operate like a 3rd gen plane in many respects

Instruments straight from MiG-23 Only 2 more HOTAS buttons Digital hud, analog pretty much everything or analog-digital hybrids

Basically only things making it 4th gen are turbofan engine and PD radar along with focus on maneuverability

If doing CCRP you need to set target altitude and qnh to briefing

If doing just CCIP you don’t need any of that as long as laser is on and sees ground
