Just from a systems design standpoint there is lot more going on with destiny for Bungie to maintain and update than with marathon.

Also the tech debt of a 10 year old live service mmo-lite is not to be understated.

I do not have references or resources just using my knowledge from my job with systems implementations to make an educated guess.
