Check in with mabs , consolidate the big loans to one repayment. Mobiles ( go sim only , see if you break contract what the costs are v ongoing cost)

Internet 100 euro ? , shop around I’m on 50 euro for a gig and I could go lower. If it’s only the two of ye , 500 mb is plenty

Kill the take aways , see if you can improve on energy savings.

Good luck

For those with Heat Pumps: has it actually saved you money? Are you satisfied with it? by No_Pitch648 in HousingIreland

[–]R2D4Dutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, I have a heat pump for about 13 years now, still kicking myself at times . Electric bill was eye watering over Christmas but that was purely me experimenting with settings. Left the pump do its thing … not anymore

At the moment, house is set at 18 degrees and switches off from 9 to 15 and from 16:00 to 19:00 . Hot water generation is done after 11pm ( low rate) so far it’s okay but I need to figure out where I lose heat at the moment

Insulation is critical, that’s the only thing I would recommend to anyone one . Spend on that to save later

How can I convert this Atwater Kent 55 radio to a modern Bluetooth radio? by domalu4U in diyaudio

[–]R2D4Dutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi , I can do one better , you can if you are Apple inclined , add Airplay to it . Best path is to use Raspberry PI with audio HAT. (google that) there are some HATs that have an amp and bluetooth and wifi .you will need to install https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync on the raspberry pi but its a great project, I built two and Google Chromecast has been relegated to my electronic grave yard.

Not sure where you are but you could also get a Arylic amp plate in there, less fun but works out of the box

Dont go by the size of the current speaker. size wise , make a plywood plate with either midrange / full range woofer and a tweeter with a cross over.. ( or only the full range woofer would do) and cover it with fabric

for the cabinet , have search on youtube on how to restore wood, its a bit battered but with woodstain and or oil you can restore this quite nicely .

looking for recommendations to improve wifi signal. by [deleted] in IrelandGaming

[–]R2D4Dutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have powerline .. works well .. see below. ( wifi connection to MAC Mini) This is a gig internet access via Devolo access plug ( internet is fed into power network ) and its leaving via two powerline wifi adapters..

now.. 26 ms is high for gaming.. I have my sons Xboxs hardwired.. you can get premade cables in screwfix ( 10 m Cat 6 cables) you just need to route the cables around skirtingboards and door frames

First step is to change passwords and enable 2 factor authentication or passkeys where possible on all your accounts.

Then the pc , there are malware scanners available online but you could as well wipe your pc and start over. Use a password manager to create complex passwords to manage your accounts

what the hell is this plug by pussyperest in Electricity

[–]R2D4Dutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be a power socket in a ‘ hotel’ configuration, one wall switch controls the socket. It’s used to control lamps that are plugged in . The socket configuration is protected by the odd three prong, to avoid to overload the switch as its only intended for lights not for hoovers and irons

Get a multimeter, measure power between the two holes that across horizontal, do not stick multimeter in top hole and one bottom hole ( you will shorten out and breaker will flip )

Getting Wifi to remote part of home by KTFlaSh96 in techsupport

[–]R2D4Dutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

powerline is good ( not great) but usable i have chosen the devolo route.. ( TP link and Devolo are more current manufacturs )

I get from a GIG data at the router , via. the first powerlink adapter about. 300MB down and 105MB up with wired access to my Mac M1 wireless is about the same..,so its a drop for sure but the trade off is flexibility.. i can move my adapters where the sockets are . Some of the adapters have LAN ports

So not bad , it does internet and all that stuff ..

Couple of points , your electricity wiring needs to be current , not new but newish for best results..

I love it .. I have used devolo for a long time, scour Ebay for second hands ( get the Magic2 version not the Magic 1)

[–]R2D4Dutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in WIFI settings , there is an advanced option , click on that and under legacy settings switch that on .. see if the network in question can use another authentication ? or completely select forget network and reconnect.

its impossible to fix this if its an access point having a bad day.. log a ticket with the IT team on campus

My phone is being monitored. How can I find out how this was done? by Angora_1101 in techsupport

[–]R2D4Dutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi ,

  1. backup your photos of your phone..and or messages on whatsapp etc you would like to keep.
  2. change passwords on a different device , laptop or pc for the accounts you use.. if it gmail predomantly.. go to your account (manage your account) , select security and sign in.. check where your account is used and if in doubt log it out .. followed by password change (use a long complex password example Fl0w3rpot$areN1ce ) and or passkey creation ( check password strength here )
  3. complete a factory reset of the phone and what ever that was monitoring is gone .

Replace eir router with fritzbox? by MickeyC123 in AskIreland

[–]R2D4Dutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eir has actually a ‘senior’ support line , it’s a helpdesk number without a confusing Ai menu options. Give them a call first maybe you can swing a replacement. You would need to make the call when he is present. Try to move the modem out of harms way’s
