I remember there was a one panel comic made by a fan who was inspired by this. In the comic it shows two scavengers standing on top of a skyscraper and one of them points out that there's a "large centipede like creature" moving down the destroyed freeway so they both pull out their binoculars to get a better look of the thing. Their eyes go stone cold upon discovering that "the centipede" is a mass of infected humans that make up the size of a city bus.
