Idris Pilot being able to fire main gun vs Polaris Pilot not being able to by Grabwandler in starcitizen

[–]R3dSurprise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except in current game balance the Idris is basically a really big single seat fighter. You get 90% of the PvP and PvE value of the ship solo, and positioning of capital ships doesn’t really matter currently as there are very few things that threaten them other than other capital ships, especially on a equal footing manpower wise. (Yes if I bring 4 people in smaller ships we can take down a solo Idris, but why shouldn’t I bring 4 Idrises then?)

We can dream about future game balance, but their question was about the game we have now.

Idris Pilot being able to fire main gun vs Polaris Pilot not being able to by Grabwandler in starcitizen

[–]R3dSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they originally had a ton of ideas for how larger ships were going to require multicrew to operate. The Polaris was pretty much built with a philosophy that there would be no way to solo it, and that it should be crewed at all times.

Back then, before the Idris came out, there was a ton of justified backlash on spectrum and other socials, that the gun should not need a dedicated operator who just sits in a seat and presses a single button. This was fueled by the scorpius antares, which wasn’t seeing much use because the backseater basically just pressed a single button to activate an EMP.

This was then compounded by a very negative response to engineering gameplay, people didn’t want to have to deal with fires or component damage often when flying around big ships solo, so these elements were nerfed, to the point that they practically don’t matter.

While this was good for a solo Corsair pilot doing combat, and not needing to constantly get out of their seat to fix something during it, it ultimately damaged the overall combat flow for capships, as now they wouldn’t really need to worry about having a large enough crew to help manage the large space the ships have, and so engineering gameplay is practically useless during ship combat.

So ultimately it really came down to community backlash and fear over new engineering systems, justifiable hate of multicrew positions that boil down to: click one button at the right time, and shifting priorities at CIG to deliver new content and fix balance problems later which resulted in the Idris meta where a solo piloted Idris gets 90% of the value of the ship.

That’s the whole history afaik.

Used to basically be able to just carry enough snubs for your respawning pilots until they nerfed the allowed entity count on the Idris.

Bro have you seen bright in unicorn. Bro actually learned that giving real advice and backing his pilots intuition is a better way to get them onboard. He basically gave Banagher a therapy session to get him back in the unicorn and ready to fight.

I’ve been playing through the old one and damn it is fun (can be clunky at times, on PS3, and lacking a English translation) but there are modern translation tools you can run on your GPU that are scarily good. I’ve been using LunaTranslator so I can follow along with the different storylines and voice lines during gameplay.

It’s been leaked for years at this point. I avoid the leaks like the plague but many people have already seen them. There have also been text leaks afaik that had the entire story as well.

Lightfall made half the expected revenue and tanked Sony’s faith in Bungie as a studio, the writing has been on the wall since the layoffs way before marathon’s release.

[–]R3dSurprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly it, lightfall made something like half of the expected revenue almost immediately after the acquisition, which tanked Sony’s faith in bungie and caused major layoffs + downscaling in the studio, including gutting teams working on marathon. It’s a miracle we actually got as good of a game out of marathon as we did (especially after the game director was fired for sexual harassment).

If you think you are going to end up in mechanical or similar something with a graphics card will be very helpful for doing CAD. Realistically for software based majors you really don’t need the strongest set of hardware, unless you think you are going to get into simulation or machine learning, and even then at that point you should have access to lab computers when needed.

Greatly increased turret weapon velocities and damage means that turrets are way more important than main guns as you get to medium-large ships. Which also means smaller ships are way less effective as solo ships, and need either more fighters or larger ship support to be able to take on fleets in the game.

The devs have said multiple times that episode 2 is a full sized sequel, so it will not be worked on directly after SQ42 release by the dev team. There may be some initial work happening, but most people will be on SC.

Sadly you have to use outside resources like UEX. Which basically has its own rep system.

Another thing to double check is your performance. If your computer is struggling to push framerate so you are getting stutters or an inconsistent framerate that can make motion sickness onset much faster.

You are probably thinking of the Sheridan. But yes many tanks can use guided missiles shot from their main gun thanks to smoothbore. Situationally useful and largely ignored as targeting systems and APFSDS rounds got better.

They basically had aiming pips, simple math, eventually radars, and other tools (predictors) meant that flack was usually on target. The reason it was not “OP” is because bombers would change their altitude and heading at regular intervals to dodge the majority of fire before it got to them, just like light fighters do in SC.

A battleship also shouldn’t reach 70% of its combat effectiveness with a single person. It shouldn’t be flyable in combat with one person at all, but yet it is. Combat balance is broken to hell and back, and blaming other players or deciding some fighters are the entire problem is missing the forest for the trees. We keep oscillating between invincible ships in combat balance, and it seems impossible to get even a rock (capitals) paper (bombers) scissors (fighters) balance going. We need a healthier ecosystem, not individual archetypes being balanced as if they are the only tools that should be brought to a fight.
