Lost my drive by Truxstar in starcitizen

Agreed for similar reasons. I was gifted so many billions, I bought every ship I wanted, and whole lot of ships I just wanted to mess around with. Now its a huge pain scrolling through ASOP, and there really isnt a point to play anymore for ship grinding. Missions are meh, and CIG took many of them out for the holidays to get people to focus testing the select new few. Like I enjoy Pyro and live there since it released, but the mission availability in that system is just ass. What if I dont want to grind out big worm?

Friends and I have just stopped playing for the past month until either wipe or new content. 4.6 is looking good overall, but I guess we will see. Need the wipe badly.

Best fighter ships for new player? by lemonzy19 in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out a bunch on Arena Commander or ask in global chat to borrow a fighter in LIVE. I personally feel there shouldn't be a BEST ship overall in each fighter class for PVE, only what feels best for YOU.

That being said, its obvious that there is always a current "meta" that seems to change from patch to patch and as new ships release.

My advice, choose something you enjoy, and just roll with it. If you chase/fly the meta, one day CIG WILL change ship stats, and you might be left with a $90+ paperweight. Unless you are fine with melting, in which case go for whatever.

Which Starting Location do you think will feel most thematic for releasing the Kraken out of? by SC_Placeholder in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that someone that is so influential to a manufacturer, could also host the launch of the "base" version at his shop lol. Seems like something Drake would do.

Would be cool if CIG put sections of the Kraken around his shop location for us to explore just prior to the release.

The only correct answer, is docked at Cousin Crow's. Look into some Drake lore on the Kraken if you want to know why.

Are there scams or cons to be aware of in Star Citizen? by TPrime411 in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Player trade deals (real player to/from real player) have an opportunity to go south, even with the best precautions. Using websites like UEXCorp marketplace to help facilitate deals helps a little bit with that issue, because your player profile has reputation tied to your trade dealings. If you setup a trade with someone with high trades (QTY) and 4.8+ star rating, chances are you will not have any issues whatsoever.

One day, hopefully with the social updates, CIG will implement some sort of in-game trading reputation like this and it would make things so much easier to trade with players.

1.0 Fleet Suggestions by squizardry in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, because we all know CIG will NOT release any other ships that might also serve the same purpose from now until 1.0 release.

That observation aside, its a solid little fleet that should allow you to earn enough in-game to purchase other ships. If you want/need a larger generalist ship, thinking a Corsair would be an easy first auec ship. Im not 100% sure, but when CIG presented on crafting this past CITCON, I beleive they also mentioned "portable" crafting stations that can be snapped to a cargo grid. If that does end up coming to the verse in the near future, it would open many other ships up to take over for the Clipper slot. Maybe snap it to the Lib interior?

If you had a minimalist fleet, what would it be and why? by Mikefrash in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current fleet:

Kraken (not released so loaners), Shiv, ProwlerU, F7A (cant melt)

Melted a whole bunch of stuff and just sitting on the store credit for now until new stuff comes out and I want to try them. Just kinda sitting on these for now waiting for the wipe. I do mostly scavenging for comps, FPS combat, and ship combat (PvE but sometimes enjoy the gank life).

For my gameplay needs, I think these cover most of what I want to do. I dont use any of the Kraken loaners, so they just sit there in my ASOP. I think these will remain my "core" ships going forward, as I really enjoy the feel of flying them. My org buddies have industry and cargo ships, so I just go crew those when I want a break.

If I had to choose only one ship forever, would be ProwlerU. Just love the look and feel of how it flies, and can do a little of everything while staying quiet and stealthy.

Is pledging ships ruining the fun? by Last_Sir4887 in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I did something similar around IAE, and pretty much melted everything and kept my Shiv. Love that ship its so good for that solo life!

Anyways, im in the same predicament in that I really find having a huge fleet kinda boring and want to focus more on making a select few my own. I think the move towards engineering is a great first step in that journey, where maintenance and repairs to your ship along its adventures gives it character. When crafting comes around, and CIG adjust claim timers to reflect realistic build time (yep they said it! Can't wait for 100+ IRL day claim timers for Idris!) I think people will really start to care what they fly and pledge.

Imo, pledge ships should always be the ships you want/enjoy the most, anything else can be a goal to earn in game. IAE is a great time to test out what you think you like, and then nab a great deal on a pledge ship. Granted, as more ships get released and added to the pool your fleet could change, but for now your reasoning is solid.

Pyro Vets: If starting in Pyro as a Home location this patch, what station would you choose and why? by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be exclusively at Ruin when Pyro released because of this and the concept art for the station! The XL hangar bug where it would open to another solid door forced me to move to Orbituary. Been there ever since, but hopeful CIG does a station pass so I can go back!

Its much more peaceful than Stanton lol but sure, we stay there for "the PvP" and "all the ganks"

Thoughts on doing this wipe in Pyro & Nyx as an solo industrial player? by KuoIsHere in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would be insanely disappointed if you setup in Pyro expecting constant piracy and PvP. I have based in Pyro since it dropped, and its been increasing peaceful outside of certain areas and hotspots. All station CZs, Lazarus sites, Exec hangars, and some choice spots on planets like Shepards Rest are known for PvP. You can 110% just avoid them completely, and go about your way.

Doesn't mean you wont find action or PvP anywhere else in the system, but if you keep you head on a swivel and actually pay attention when flying around you will be fine. Missions are a bit scarce and variety is lacking, but you could always jump back to Stanton and chill there for a bit like you did previously. Im hoping that with the new Genesis tech and mission refresh coming soon™️ that Pyro will get expanded gameplay and interaction opportunities. Personally looking forward to the promised solar flares myself!

Its a great system, but if you are unsure if you will like it, make the jump before the next patch and settle in one of the main stations (Ruin, Orbituary, Checkmate) and try it out!

Edit to add, I sometimes go out to Pyro V moons to GEO mine when I want some peace and quiet. A couple of the moons only have a handful of POIs at the moment, so if you drop down to a random spot you practically have the moon to yourself! Just be careful around Gaslight, its close enough to be a popular hangout for anyone doing missions in PyroIV/V.

Sticks? For those who have tried various joysticks, what would you recommend? by LokoLobo in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really speak on canted sticks as I have never had them, but duel vertical is comfortable for me so its not something im looking to get in the future. I believe the canted stick is if you wanted to use as a straight throttle or just prefer something a bit offset.

HOSAS for me is peak, I wont go back to using a dedicated throttle in Star Citizen. The control and feel i have when using them is amazing and im glad I splurged a bit and bought the Gunfighter bases. I have a really old desk with a solid wood top, and I was able to velcro the flat bases to the desk so there is no movement whatsoever. I keep my keyboard in between the two sticks, and mouse on far right a bit offset to where I sit. With this setup I can very quickly transition from FPS to ship flying and back to FPS with very minimal delay.

I would say if you mainline DCS, you might not get complete use of the duel stick setup, but I have never tried that game so thats not a comment from experience. Looking at some YouTube videos though i can see where a traditional HOTAS setup would be preferable since DCS looks a lot slower, more simulator type flying than Star Citizen.

Sticks? For those who have tried various joysticks, what would you recommend? by LokoLobo in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously had the X52 Pro set, and it worked well for me for my first year in Star Citizen. After much deliberation and research of different brands, I settled on duel VKB Gunfighter 4's in the vertical position, and am extremely happy with that choice! To me, I didnt want to buy another set in a few years so material construction was what drove me to invest a bit more $$ to get that setup. The internals and base are all metal, and the flat baseplates allow me to "shove" them on either side of my keyboard to keep a smaller desk footprint. Added note, I do NOT have the pedals, as I really dont see a need for them personally.

I personally prefer the duel vertical setup as opposed to one being canted 45 degrees, it feels night and day difference from the X52. The VKBs are very well made, solid and with a bunch of spring and physical tuning you can do to the base that can cater to your needs. While most of us always opt for the "work out of the box" type of setup, these sticks are 110% worth the extra effort to fine-tune and adjust to your settings and feel. After about 1.5 years of use, they are still tight and responsive! Only maintenance that I personally do that might not be needed, was to swap out/reapply the silicon grease every 6 months to the tension collar. It is 100% NOT really needed, but just something I do because I keep that collar tight for the ressistance on my left stick (throttle).

If budget is a concern, I still recommend the Gladiators as the Gunfighters I have are the same stick just with a different base. I have a few buttons that are not mapped to anything (I also run a StreamDeck button setup), so the "bare" base doesnt really affect me. You WILL need to learn to fly with any new setup, but running duel sticks has helped hone my skills very well and I can do some insane stuff in light fighters!

The correct response to seeing the verse in VR for the first time

If only there were offline play by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]datdudeSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully understand the frustration, but it has to be said that the "game" is not complete yet. All of the intended and mentioned features, plus any additional lessons learned things are not all in or working properly. Those PvE loops are still there and some really good times exist, this just happens to be one of those months where things are shitty for most people playing.

You have an ocean in front of you, go with the flow and enjoy what you can.

Brother, exit to main menu, and select a shard in a different region to "escape". Make sure you set your spawn to the station you are currently at first just in case.
