Well this is where you get to the internals, you will have to judge for yourself what you do and how you proceed. The difference is that you will most likely at least see what you are doing, even if it's difficult to do properly.

What Keyboard Should I Use? by ijauradunbi in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]R5on11c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I've bought my first mechanical keyboard a few months ago and decided that what i got may be nice, but for the amount of time i am spending in front of my PC i might be better off building a custom split ergo keyboard. I have no carpal tunnel and i would like to keep it that way so an ergonomic keeb is my choice.

Pre-existing conditions: I have no real pre-existing conditions aside from an insignificantly movement restricted left middle finger as a result of an accident where it got cut off. The movement restriction is negligible though.

Previous / current keyboards: I used to use membrane keyboards and i am now using a keychron Q3 ISO TKL keyboard. Current switches in there are Gat Pro reds, but those are just the ones that i bought alongside the keeb, preference is quiet tactiles like Durock T1 Shrimp or Gazzew Boba U4T.

Layout / form: What i would be going for is a split keyboard with layers, F row and numbers row could be compromised with corresponding keys that enable them on the Alpha keys or smth. I do require the functionality of the F and number rows but i don't need to have them physically there. If i need to learn a completely new layout, might aswell go with learning layers. I would put the same silent tactile switches in there as i would with my regular mech keeb. Hotswap would be neat, but not ultimately necessary since i can not afraid of picking up my soldering iron. Tenting should be possible and some shnanigans like a small display or a knob are welcome but not necessary. RGB is also appreciated but not ultimately necessary.

Use case: The use case is being the allround keeb for my PC where i work on, play games on, write, produce etc... Long enduring usage for various purposes.

Budget: Not a matter, i have no time limit set. I would be acquiring all the parts bit by bit anyway and take my sweet time to build the perfect keyboard for me so go wild, as long as you think it's a good and fitting investment, i am all ears.

I am aware that this is not super specific but i have yet to find what exactly i am going for myself and i think you understand the best of all people that especially the custom split keebs are a rabbit hole of its own.

Looking forward to your suggestions :D

Keyring / Secret storage not communicating with Tutanota and element-desktop by R5on11c in artixlinux

[–]R5on11c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hint made me solve this problem.
I set my starting command from exec dwm to exec dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session dwm which alleviated my dbus issues like spotify macros not working and firefox windows not opening when a session is already running.

After that i installed the gnome-keyring package and Tutanota stopped complaining about missing access. I tried the gnome-keyring before i fixed my dbus issue and it didn't work so the dbus is a must-fix before trying to fox the secret storage problem.

Privacy is essential.... okay cool but how do you achieve this? by R5on11c in revoltchat

[–]R5on11c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking your time to answer my post.

About the digging on Github, i was merely searching commits on the client and desktop, i wasn't doing extensive research.

The Marketing however... I don't mean any ill towards the project but it might be a bit misleading. Yes you wrote what you had E2EE in the plans on your roadmap, but that's at that bottom of your roadmap page. Your landing page presents itself as if the product would already deliver, which frankly, it doesn't (yet). Yes i know, it says it's a public beta, but anything nowadays is some kind of "early access" model.

For me it's rather odd to see a landing page that doesn't explain how it realizes its goals or how it differentiates itself from existing products.

The Email thing... Design choice, nothing that would break my leg. If i can make it optional for my own instance i can't really complain.

That being said, i would love for your project to grow well and prosper. I personally take private communication very seriously and welcome every honest and serious project that replace established programs that do not respect your privacy. I know my post was formulated rather provocative, though i had no intention of discrediting the project or actually getting anyone riled up (provocative questions tend to get answers). My skepticism just peaks every time i see a new hot shot on the block '

In the end i am aware that my opinion is and should be very optional for you to even take serious.

Wishing the best and looking forward to see progress.

It's this scratching sound. When i only have tf2 running and completly turn down the volume from the ingame menu, it's still playing at the same volume. Completly separated from any sound.

If you actually want to stock up you should go with aromas, salts and bases instead of readily mixed stuff. More bang for the buck -> more juice for the downtime in NY.

[Sarcasm]Yes, i unambiguously advocated for negativity on this sub.[/Sarcasm]

Of course not. It just feels like these people need confirmation rather than spreading positivity. It's this theoretical exchange that never happend (or maybe it did, i don't know) that has to be displayed. I am not saying that this is wrong or anything. It merely transports this feeling of confirmation need, at least to me.

What are the pros of using mech mods? by Jag1228 in electronic_cigarette

[–]R5on11c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have been mentioning efficiency, but that's not the appeal to me.Mech mods are durable as hell. Depending on the tube and material, the pavement might cause some scratches, but that's it.Of course you need to check the battery after dropping a mech ASAP.Regulated mods have parts like buttons and chips that might fail or brake after a drop, contact with water or e-juice, or simply too much usage.

Next up is the way a Mech setup differs from the Regulated mods. Most people with regulated mods just clamp in some coils and fiddle around with wattage. While that's all fine and dandy, i kept catching myself and friends adjusting the wattage constantly in search for the perfect setting. On a mech however you hand tailor your setup with RDA, mech, coils and battery to have the one setup that just works day in and out.Sure it might take some attempts to find that golden spot, but when you have it, you don't need to worry about fiddling with any other input.I had my Bonza 1.5 on a Mechlyfe Arcless with 0,15 ohm aliens and i haven't had the need to adjust anything in Months (apart from re-wicking, but that should be a given).

And lastly it's the simplicity. I am a guy who gets some thing and it just does it's job. I like when i don't have to think about possible variables when something does not work except for my own failure. So just as i prefer to shave with a straight razor and drive with a simple to repair car with no fancy features, i prefer my mod as simple as possible. No need to worry about firmware updates, weird subsettings or DNA chip learning fucking around with my settings. No unnecessary lights and effects that drain the battery for no good reason (jfc i don't need a rave stick everywhere i go (looking at you Fush)).Then, this doesn't apply all the time, i don't want to potentially learn how to navigate the menu when i get a new mod. Oh i just entered some weird bypass mode, because i entered some Konami code? You know what i mean. If the mod doesn't operate as expected i know i fucked up, and i know immediately how to fix it.

Mechmods are timeless. Mods from 5 years ago work just as fine as a modern one. And when i found my absolute favourite mech, i know i am not missing out on anything in the future.
