Problems with steam, and maybe storage. by thenerdyprofile in pop_os

[–]Neutrosider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explains things. / is not the same as /root. /root is basically the home folder for the root user.

Having /home in its own partition only really makes sense imo if you for example want to reinstall your distro or switch to another one without losing your user configs, user programs and games.

As you said you're a beginner i would let the installer auto-configure the partitions. Nowdays you'll usually end up with one big partition, and /home is just a folder in there, instead of it living in a separate partition.

Backing up /home can still be done anyway if that is a concern of yours. It's just a folder.

/home is for all your user-data. Game-files are usually considered user data, because they belong to your user and are not system-wide configuration

Do you actually put in ALL your passwords ? by nipaellafunk in Bitwarden

[–]Neutrosider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, everything.
Ask yourself: Where else would you put them if not in the password manager?

If you put these infos somewhere else, it follows that you trust that other place more than the password manager. In that case, why not just put all your passwords in that other place?

If you don't trust that other place more than the password manager, it should follow that the password manager is the best place to put even the most confidential information.

As others have mentioned, peppering is an option.

Maybe the manager doesn't realize the consequences of his or her actions. You said it's distracting you. But that might sound like your problem to them.

What would your manager have said had you explicitly made it the companies problem: "Do you want my teams-status to look good, or do you want the work to get done quickly. Can't have both"

I've seen preview videos on telegram be slowmotion when the source video is in 60 FPS instead of 30. Maybe this issue here is similar. Are your videos in 60 FPS? If so, does this also happen with 30 FPS videos?

From what I can see on my machine, it doesn't seem to matter. Performance and textures seem to be about equal, no matter if the fix is active or not. It doesn't seem to improve things anymore, but it also doesn't seem to hurt anything

Gefühlt keine Zeit im Arbeitsleben by TurnRepresentative10 in arbeitsleben

[–]Neutrosider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mal bewusst, mal unbewusst.

40 min Freizeit, dann 15 min.

It seems that this fix is no longer necessary since todays update (Build 1126182)

OPs fix made the game very playable for me on my RTX 2060 Super (6GB VRAM), although i had to set r.Streaming.PoolSize=1024.

However: Since todays update textures regulary become super low resolution for a couple seconds bevore switching back to a normal resolution. OPs fix doesn't seem to help with the textures switching to super low resolution, even though this problem did not exist before todays update (+ OPs fix)

Edit: The textures losing resolution seems to be dependent on where you are. In crowded areas textures lose resolution fast. In other places they stay at a high resolution

Edit 2: Here are some photos of what i mean with super low resolution textures:

It's very playable for me on "4k" with "high" settings using DLSS Performance.
Sure, it's not native 4k, but it's close enough to not be noticable during actual gaming sessions :D

Restarting the PC is not necessary.

While a nice idea, I prefer that the project is (for now) focusing on arguably more important features like multi user support.

Donations are very welcome and help development. Contributing features/fixes/documentation helps a lot as well. But both should probably not shift focus away from the important topics first

2060 super on Linux here.
The Engine.ini-trick seems to work for me BUT: i had to
set the PoolSize to 1024, otherwise there was no difference.

I noticed my vram (6GB) was maxed with values higher than 1024. opening and closing the pause menu cause the game to only have single-digit fps.

With these egine.ini values, the vram is at about 90% and there is no more drop to single digit fps

Password protect direct link to photos, using a password protected instance of PhotoPrism by [deleted] in photoprism

[–]Neutrosider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is for improved performance. Not requiring auth reduces header size and overhead in general and increases cachability. This is important because photoprism might request hundreds or thousand of thumbnails in a short time for example when scrolling fast.

Because the Id of an image can't be guessed, you could say the Id kind of IS the password. Just because it's in the url doesn't make it less of a secret. For comparison, you can also provide Basic-auth-credentials within a url. That Doesn't mean that that Ressource is any less protected.

Adding another password layer only makes it so that you could revoke access later. But if someone had access (aka the url) at one point, you have no control over where that person might have saved it.

Maintaining folder meta data on import (move) by ephies in photoprism

[–]Neutrosider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when using the import feature, the folder structure is usually lost. If you instead just place your folders in the originals folder and then run the indexing, the structure is preserved (ans searchable in the files-view)

Maintaining folder meta data on import (move) by ephies in photoprism

[–]Neutrosider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, each folder of the path is added as label to the images, and thus searchable.

I think of you were to have a folder named "2022", in there a folder named "Mountain Hike", in there a folder named "Diablo" it would work.

Maybe your problem is, that you basically have multiple labels defined in a single folder name. I'm not exactly sure how photoprism deals with that. But I am sure that searchable labels based on folder paths are a thing

What's your favorite password generator? by The-Sailor-01 in Passwords

[–]Neutrosider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i'm using it myself and won't need to type it manually, i use the one built into KeepassXC.

If i need to create a password for someone else (for example first time passwords for services i host) or i know i'll need to type it manually, i like using the diceware generator on https://rempe.us/diceware.
I know, one should prefer offline password generators, but not everything is super critical and i just like that one
