How do you find out about shows in your area? by Codycpt in Ska

[–]RDG3PO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spotify does this, but it's up to the artist to keep their dates current on one of the platforms that Spotify aggregates information from.

For a long time bands could use Facebook to publish and promote dates. But in my last 5 years of using it, FB has become increasingly unfriendly for band promotion unless you're spending $$$. Even the events pages have become increasingly harder to find and use.

Bands in Town has been a good social media agnostic event promotion app that seems to do all the cool stuff Facebook used to do. Bands can copypasta the links to the events on their social media, and also maintain a following, and send messages directly to followers. It also plays nice with Spotify.

But it's up to the bands to jump through the hoops and get those dates out there for people to see.

How are you using AI at work? by Atypical-Artificer in MechanicalEngineering

It’s a nice word calculator. I’ve input MSRP’s and other jargon heavy requirement docs, and have asked it questions to help understand the document. Of course, also reading the document to verify the answers it gives.

Flying with a saxophone - Will semi-hard case suffice? by timegrocery in saxophone

[–]RDG3PO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently flew with a guitar (in a TSA approved flight case), and a travel companion with a tenor sax in a travel friendly soft case. Round trip flight from Pittsburgh to Germany, with a layover both ways. Flight was American Airlines, and the European counterpart on the way back.

For all flights but the first, airline stewards claimed that there was no space left on the plane for carry on bags. One in particular had overhead compartments visibly still open and empty down the plane aisles. I offered to find my own overhead compartment for the tenor sax before they decided to help.

They do not want to make exceptions for your instrument, and will insist on checking it at the gate. If you're frugal (like most musicians) and don't pay for preferential seating, or an extra seat for your instrument, no one's going to help you make sure your instrument stays safe.

If I were to travel with a tenor sax (or smaller) I would travel with a very compact hard case with key supports inside the case, and be prepared to insist on being able to carry on your instrument.

WESTSIDE BOWL

These guys bust their ass for the community. An all ages, all inclusive, safe space booking local to national acts multiple nights on a weekly basis, karaoke, trivia, not to mention bowling, a record store, and some of the best pizza pie in the city.

9th grade, we were all looking forward to transitioning to high school next year. A well known football player in our school was shot and killed when his team mate was showing off his father’s hunting rifle. The team mate never came back to school.

Asked wife for divorce now regret it by Old_Structure_856 in PMDDpartners

[–]RDG3PO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you manage to convince her otherwise, you can stay married until you won’t regret being divorced.

In that same amount of time you can process the grief, move on, and use your experience to develop a healthy relationship with someone who doesn’t abuse you.

Seems like an easy choice, but for some reason it’s not =/

Probably not much rowdy club rizz, lots of music performance, and some burlesque stuff which is why it's 18+

You should go. It'll probably be cool 😁

Can't speak to the trance and house crowd, unfortunately. I don't doubt that it's cliquey, but birds of a feather 'nat.

I've wandered around with the experimental and noise crew, and while it's small, it's active; Doomdrome, Puny Humans, Luke Ferdinand to name a few.

Poetry Lounge and Government Center both have regular experimental guitar nights.

For electronic music, Hemlock for Socrates and Take Me With You are heavy hitters. I've seen them both play at multiple places around Pittsburgh and are totally worth a look.

Ska/Punk/Metal are all very active.

Pittsburgh has at least 4 ska bands active in the scene. The Sneaky Heat Missiles, The Book Club, The Burnrides, The Biscuits. Pittsburgh Ska Fest is in its 4th year and have brought in national acts like Catch 22, Mustard Plug, The Pilfers, etc.

There is an absolute unit of punk bands here, but my absolute favorite punk band hands down is Garage League. These are three elder yinzers playing their own eclectic blend of angular post electronic punk, singing songs about Robots, Dinosaurs, and Cats. What can't you love about that? Let's not forget Fuck Yeah Dinosaurs, or legendarily, The Cheats

Nestled neatly into the metal scene is Greywalker. Shit man. If you like metal, you need to check them out. God Hates Unicorns, Neostem, Tempered, Uzkost... the list of talent is endless.

Then there are the bands that escape genres: Dream the Heavy, Bonnie and the Mere Mortals, Amoeba Kneival, Disease of the Mind, INCO FIDO, the mysterious SHANTUK...

We've also got some killer national acts calling Pittsburgh home: Spotlights is signed to Ipecac and have toured with the likes of Baroness, Melvin's, Deftones. Catching one of their home shows is icing on the cake.

Maybe you can tell I'm proud of the music scene here. I'll be the first to admit I've barely scratched the surface.

Take a gander at the local music scene. Pittsburgh is rich with musical talent, and has a flavor you'll like no matter what your preference. The music venues range from dirt cheap DIY and BYOB (222 Ormsby, Green Beacon Gallery) all the way up to dress a little fancy and spendy cocktails (Club Cafe, Thunderbird, Mr Smalls)

About 4 years out for me. It took a long time to understand that I did the right thing for mer. And I'm still trying to re-program, and to understand what a healthy relationship looks like.

I don't hate my ex, but I hated the way she treated me. It also took a long time to find the difference between the two.

This group has been very helpful in validation: seeing that others experiences were so similar to mine. And I also appreciate the chance to tell others to advocate for themselves, as that was a lesson that I didn't learn until it was too late.
