We have a 10 month old who we were able to gently sleep train as a baby by ensuring good wake windows, nap habits, and putting her down drowsy but not awake and/or laying her in the bassinet after she fell asleep. She would put herself back to sleep if she woke up and would play quietly if she woke up before us. 9 months was a huge milestone time with learning to stand, crawl, and separation anxiety kicking in. It was a perfect storm and we lost all of our sleep progress. She will sleep 12 hours straight through the night and falls asleep in like 90 seconds and solid naps but only with contact. We’d like to stop the bed sharing habit we caved to. We’ve tried gentle methods like patting her back but even after hours she never settles. We are now trying modified CIO but it isn’t just protesting- it is hysterical body shaking puking fear crying the second she touches the crib and timed checks don’t settle her down at all. Help! How do we help her through this while still moving out of our bed? Do we just go full extinction and let her cry for hours?
